1. In what way does your product
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
2. Conventions of a Front Cover
Conventions that are used on my front
cover is a masthead at the top of my
magazine, I moved it slightly to the left like
NME has instead of the middle to make it a
bit different and subverts the mainstream
magazines as they have their masthead at
the top middle on the magazine. Across my
main image I have a head line and a strap
line which is very conventional as most
magazines have it to draw the reader in.
Having a bold image is also conventional, I
decided to have one person across the
front cover to make my magazine bold and
it also tells the audience the genre by
looking at the model on the front, this is
because the mise-en-scene is rocky as she is
wearing a skull scarf, messy hair and bright
red lipstick. A very common convention is
having cover lines which have a little bit of
information about the different features
inside the magazine which attracts the
audience as they want to know more, I
have put mine on the left hand side on my
front cover.
Some conventions that I subverted in my
own product is by having my image not in
the centre but more towards the bottom
right of my magazine cover, I did this
because I want it to be more unique and
eye catching, I also wanted my cover lines
to be shown more on the left to make
them stand out. I also wanted to make my
masthead bigger but couldn’t with the
image being centred as it covered some of
the models face so I could have it bigger to
make it noticeable what magazine it is.

3. Conventions of a Contents page
My contents page has similar
conventions to the NME contents
page such as the title at the top
in bold to make it clear,, a neat
structure bordered up with
pictures filling the page. Other
conventions that I have kept
throughout my product are the
house colours which are red,
black and white, this keeps it
clear to the audience that its all
linked. Its understandable to the
audience with the conventional
page number at the bottom right
on each image. I also have
features and news that are
included on a contents page to
draw the audience in and want to
read more, this is very
conventional on most magazines.
Having an advertisement is
usually conventional as it is
making the reader more invovle
with the magazine.

4. Conventions of a double page spread
Conventions that I have put
on my double page spread is
having the title as a quote to
draw the audience in as they
want to now more
information. Having a sub
heading underneath is also
conventional because it tells
the audience a bit more
information on what the
article is about, its leading up
the main article giving the
audience suspense. Having a
main image across the double
page spread is very
conventional and makes who
the article is about to stand
out. My image gets darker
towards the left which shows
how she use to be in a dark
place, but there is a lot of
light on her face with a high
contrast which shows she has
overcome her drug addiction
and is back on top.
