2. How we went GREEN!
Created Team –and solicited interest from all students in grade
three via oral/written/visual presentation
• Katie Peternell supported team with me – This was my goal with
KSC!
• Heard student presentations –Shhhhhh -EVERYONE was actually
selected!
3. • Developed process for paper collection –
white/mixed bottles and cans…
• Green team Members prepared as a team a
presentation for each classroom.
• Team members from each classroom are
responsible for collection of recyclables.
BENEFIT – lessens custodial workload
• Visited Dondero school to observe their
recycling program in Cafeteria.
• Cafeteria now recycles just about
everything – milk cartons (Process for
draining cartons), plastics 1-7 (NOT
Styrofoam containers), & compost
• Compost important to be as free as
possible from contaminants/ in return we
get finished compost for our gardens
13. What Next?
• Convince Food Service to use real
silverware or recyclable
silverware and to use recyclable
containers - NO STYROFOAM
• Develop student capacity to run
and monitor program
