Thomas Hardy (1840-1928):
-English Novelist and poet:
-Hardy was a victorian Realist who was influenced
Romanticism.
-He wrote about Problems of Victorian Society Particular,
declining rural life.
-He was educated at a local school and later in dorchester,
and his youth was spent in the countryside around that town,
where shortly afterward he began to study with an architect.
-In 1910 he was awarded the order of merit.
-His heart lies buried in his fictional town ‘Wessex’, though
his ashes have a place among the great in westminster

His Life:
Thomas Hardy (1840-1928), one of the greatest Victorian novelists and poets
was born in the village of Upper Bockhampton, near Dorchester in Dorset.
He was the first child of Thomas and Jemima Hardy.
His father was master- mason and a violinist, which meant the Hardy
family was middle class. His mother came from a family long established in
Dorset.
Hardy spent his childhood with his parents pleasantly. Between his
parents, Hardy gained all the interests that would later appear in his novels
and his own life, his love for architecture and music, his interest in the
lifestyle of the country and his passion for literature.
Especially, he inherited a love of music from his father, a love of reading

Hardy’s Style of writing:
-Thomas Hardy is best known for writing about the bleak fate of the
working class as imposed on them by social norms and the privilege of the
wealthy. He is known both as a poet and a novelist; however, his most
famous works are the novels, Tess of the d'Urbervilles and Jude the
Obscure.(Albert )
-Among the varieties of poetic modernism, Thomas Hardy's is distinctive
because of its class-inflected, skeptical, self-implicating tendencies.
-Use of colour strongly linked to emotion and experiments especially
connected with natural landscape.
