3. Reproduction : is the development of new
individuals (progeny) from their pre-existing ones.
(parents)
The manner in which they originate is called
modes of reproduction.
The vegetative parts of the plant are the roots,
stem and leaves. The reproductive parts of the plant
are the flowers. In plants there are two main types
of reproduction.
They are asexual reproduction and sexual
reproduction.
7. What is sexual reproduction?
• Requiring 2 parents
– male and female (egg & sperm)
• The egg and sperm join (zygote) to form an
entirely new organism
• Offspring are different from the parent
organism.
• This process creates a variety of genetic
make-up which is the driving force behind
evolution.
8. Sexual Reproduction
Sexual reproduction produces a greater chance
of variation within a species than asexual
reproduction would.
This variation improves the chances that a
species will adapt to his environment and
survive.
