2. How effective was the pre-production workflow for your preliminary task?
• As a group I think that we worked very well together. We came up with a
name for our group very quickly with no disagreements. When we
discussed ideas for the task we found it very easy to communicate and
also everyone put in their own ideas.
• The thing that helped was that the whole group knew each other and got
on well before hand, so it made it easier for us to make decisions.
• The thing that did not help us was that one group member had not been
here for a week, so we had to get her up to date when she came back.
• One thing that we could have improved on would be to have decided on
what camera movements we specifically wanted to use.
3. What technology did you use to film the task
and how well did this go?
• When we went to film the task we were asked to use iPads.
• The benefits of using the iPads were that they were easy to use. Also
when it came to importing the video onto the iMacs it was very easy to
do and also it was not as time consuming as other devices would be.
• Disadvantages of using the iPads were that they were very hard to hold
at times, the video quality was not as good as expected it to be. The
iPads also picked up any other noises when we were filming so we had
to make sure that the environment we were filming in was quiet and no
interruptions were made.
4. What did you learn from the actual filming that
you will need to think about in the future?
• The thing that I learned from the actual filming is to make sure the
environment that I am filming in is quiet enough.
• Another is to make sure the people included in the film should not
change anything in their appearance e.g. Changing hair colours, new
piercings ect, this is so if we need to re-film something or need the
person for more filming then they do not look different from previous
film shots.
5. What technology did you use to edit your
preliminary task and how well did this go?
• The technology that my group used to edit our preliminary task was
iMovie on the iMacs.
• The reason we used iMovie was because it was an easier option because
we had imported our raw footage on the iMacs.
• Also iMovie was very easy to use and offered different sound effects,
transitions and music to add to our film.
6. How well does your completed preliminary
task meet the criteria set out for it?
• The criteria was to create a film of two characters, one at a table and the
other walking in and then them to exchanging dialogue. Our video was
successful at showing this.
• We were also asked to show match on match action. We had a number
of scenes where we show this accurately. We had also shown
shot/reverse shot. However the only shot we had not included was 180
degree rule, to improve our video I would put in this rule to show my
understanding of it.
7. What do you think, overall you have learnt
from the process of completing the preliminary
task?
• Overall I have learnt the different camera shots and movement. This is
good because now when I shoot a video I can use a number of different
shots and movements rather than limiting myself.
• Another thing I learnt was about the three different stages of film
production, and also to make sure nothing changes with the different
scenery and the actors just in case more filming is needed.
