2. 1. How effective was the pre-production workflow for
the preliminary task?
• I think that in our group we worked really well together, everyone had their own
input on what they thought we could do for our preliminary task. We all listened to
each other and considered every idea brainstormed, stating advantages and
disadvantages of each idea. I think that listening to each other really helped us in
pre-production as in a four one person was never leading the conversation, if a
person in the group was not saying much we would encourage them to speak. I
think that what we should’ve done better is we should have not spent so much
time brainstorming ideas like camera shots, movements and even the plot to the
task! I think what hindered pre production was the fact that we would get
somewhere with our ideas and then one person would say “but what if...” then we
would get pegged back to square one.
3. 2. What technology was used while filming and how well did this
go?
• In the filming of our preliminary task we used the camcorder
function on an iPad for all of our filming. I think this worked
really well as the iPad was quite simple to use and the filming
got done quicker as using the camera was very
straightforward as we were not using cameras that we didn’t
understand how to use. The iPads made it really easy to
transfer the video on to the iMacs.
4. 3. What did you learn from the actual filming that you
will need to think about in future?
• I learnt that lighting is really essential to filming. I think that
we had the right level of lighting on our set. I also learnt how
and when to use camera techniques in a film like match-on-
action, the 180 degree rule and shot/reverse shot; this can be
very useful in future tasks and beyond school.
5. 4. What technology did you use to edit the
preliminary task and how well did this go?
• For the final stage of the prelim task (editing) we used the
Apple iMac computers in the media classroom. The software
we used to edit the prelim task was iMovie. This went very
well as iMovie was very simple to use therefore the editing
got done in a very short time, meeting our deadline.
6. 5. How well does your completed preliminary
task meet the criteria set out for it?
• Our completed preliminary task meets the entire criteria set
out for our groups as we were asked to show Match-on-
action, the 180 degree rule and the shot/reverse shot. Our
edited piece shows all of these things.

7. 6. What do you think, overall you have learnt from the
process of completing the preliminary task?
• I think that, overall I learnt that a lot more work goes on in the
film industry behind the camera than just point and shoot.
Now I notice in films the certain shots, movements or
techniques used. During the preliminary task we kept an
emphasis on continuity and now in films I can notice little
continuity errors that I have never noticed before.
