Ledger Line
The Ledger lines
In music theory when there are not enough spaces or lines to encompass the notes in a composition, Ledger lines can be added above or below the staff. Example below:

G clef
The mnemonics used for the treble clef are
“Every Good Boy Does Fine” and “FACE” which represents
the lines and spaces of the treble staff.

Music
half step higher than the
original
It is a half step lower
cancels any accidentals that
were applied to a note.
a double flat lowers the pitch a
whole step (two half steps).
the double sharp raises a note
a whole step (two half steps)
24. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Music
an element of music also known as the
tune, the voice or the line ; a horizontal
presentation of pitch that goes up or
down either by step, skip, constant or on
stationary motion , derived from the
various scales

Time Signature
An Upbeat or anacrusis, also called a pickup note(s), is a term used for
unstressed notes in the incomplete measure at the beginning of a
phrase of music. This anticipates the first beat of the next measure, the
“downbeat”.

Music
Pitch – High and low
Range – distance between the lowest and
highest note
Interval – distance between two pitches

Kodaly Hand Signal
Zoltan Kodaly is a Hungarian composer and
ethnomusicologist. He is the founder of Kodaly
Method , an approach to music education that
uses hand signal to sing the notes.

Grand staff- where the notes are placed……. The Grand Staff (also known as the Grand Stave) is basically just 2 staves joined together, with an invisible line in between them!
There are two staves which make up the Grand Staff.
The top stave uses the Treble Clef to identify notes and the bottom stave uses the Bass Clef.

The black key to the right of the white key makes a pitch that is a half step higher than the original
The black key to the left of a white key creates a pitch that is a half step lower than the white key to the right
A note that is not sharp nor flat is called natural.

Let us discuss first all the symbols and signs that have something to do with the melody…
A time signature tells you how the music is to be counted. is written at the beginning of the staff after the clef and key signature.
- consist of two numbers written like a fraction.
-The top number of the time signature tells you how many beats to count.
-The bottom number tells you what kind of note to count. That is, whether to count the beats as quarter notes, eighth notes, or sixteenth notes. So the only numbers you will see as the bottom number (the denominator) will correspond to note values:
Anacrusis/ pick up bar-An anacrusis is an unstressed pickup or lead-in note or group of notes that precedes the first accented note of a phrase (a short unit of musical line). The accented note of the phrase is found in the first complete measure of music.
-

The purpose of the key signature is to minimize the number of such accidentals required to notate the music. The sequence of sharps or flats in key signatures is generally rigid in modern music notation.
-determines the pattern of accidentals
-they indicate the key of the song by telling you how many sharps or flats there
CHEAT- ITS FOR YOUR OWN CONSUMPTION
For key signatures with flats, the key signature is the second to last flat.
For key signatures with sharps, the key signature is the note name half step above the last sharp. -
-tells a musician in what key the music is played.
-the key signature appears right after the clef symbol on the staff.

Major scale- 4/3
minor scale- ¾ EXPLAIN!!!!!!!
The major scale consists of seven different pitches. There are half steps between the third and fourth and seventh and eighth scale degrees; whole steps exist between all other steps. Below is a the C major scale. The pattern of whole and half steps is the same for all major scales.
Major scale-
Pentatonic scales, as their name suggests, have only five notes. To get from one end of the scale to the other, they require gaps of more than a half step.
