EXXON REFINERY FAWLEY SOUTHAMPTON SEPTEMBER 2013 TO MARCH 2016
In 2005 I was approached by Speedy who asked me to assist in setting up the service department for an onsite facility within
Portsmouth Naval base. I worked alongside the contracts manager and hire desk team, with the assistance of one other
engineer. I was responsible for the service, maintenance, and repair including all planned preventative maintenance and
commissioning of a core fleet of hire equipment; mainly comprising of Compressors, dryers, pumps, generators and lighting
towers. I was accountable for all procedures and regulations relating to the service department including health and safety,
PUWER, LOLER, COSHH regulations, the calibration of tools, ensuring that our fleet of compressors were maintained in
accordance to the pressure vessel regulations and making sure we had appropriate risk assessments and procedures in
place. I also regularly liaised with the customers and shared an out of hours rota with the engineer.
In 2013, Speedy asked me to help turn around a failing service department within their on-site facility at Fawley Refinery.
There I had very similar duties but with greater responsibilities, especially due to the environment which required a greater
emphasis on health and safety. I was responsible for three engineers and a driver and my role became more managerial, but
still getting hands on with the equipment when needed. My responsibilities were to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the
engineers, ensuring they had the equipment and parts to maintain the large hire fleet and reduce the amount of breakdowns.
Introducing and sustaining systems that would assist the depot in complying to regulations, processes and procedures, giving
technical advice and assistance when required and consulting with manufactures and suppliers. I had a key role to play in
ensuring Speedy worked with Esso and the safety system they use (LPS, loss prevention system).
