This is democratic statement from a former military head of state, now civilian president. He has learnt so many lessons so far in his life time. He lost democratic election two times only to succeed when he changed his motives in a new direction.
Change!!! The word change like any other word was used during Obama campaign as a positive and motivating slogan. Now change has come in a new dimension and style in Nigeria. Before I proceed further, we need to define the word “everybody” and “nobody”.
Everybody encompass a lot in this new dispensation. When we say everybody it means all and sundry or everyone. Political definitions may have its own meaning and translation for the word. The approach to walk the talk depicts the real meaning.
I believe the President meant well by declaring this statement, openly. He has meant that he love Nigerians and would always work in their best interest. He is putting the interest of Nigerians first in the area of security, education, health, employment, power and food (agriculture) for all Nigerians.
The word everybody is a signal to those who were referred to as the Cabals-powers that be by the previous administration, saboteurs and snowballing echelons in power and still in control. A warning declaration has been released for everyone traceable to loot to be ready or flee before hell will be let loose all in the interest of every Nigerians either we like it or not.
“I belong to everybody” is a selfless statement. It applauds the altruistic nature of the President Muhammadu Buhari.
The antonym, NOBODY has to be for the so called friends or political whims he represents and all. The party has brought him to power; another is for him to work in the major interest of the party. He has refused to be influenced by party antics and tactics. The survival of our nation does not lie on the political party but on individuality. We cannot seed the resources of the country on any political party because many will have nothing. What the President refers to as “NOBODY” is a classless society where you live according to your worth. You cannot live beyond what you don’t have. If at all you must have, it must be credibly acquired. This is a government of checks and balances; integrity and transparency.
“I belong to nobody” may seem awkward when you relate this to the family. He was born by a Man and Woman. He belongs to them. They nurtured him to become who he is; he has relatives, sisters and brothers. He belongs to them. He came out of a village and city, he married and has children, and he belongs to them. This expression has gone beyond family and immediate environment. The president is now a man of the world but belongs to Nigeria.
Awaiting the Presidential speech broadcast for the federation, he mentioned repeatedly, fellow Nigerians in a democentric manner, the wrap up action was to tackle security – the military base is to be moved out of luxury to the juntas’ zone with immediate
1. THE EFFICACY OF PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI FIRST
DECLARATION SPEECH ON MAY 29TH
2015.
I belong to everybody and I belong to nobody……….President Muhammadu Buhari.

The President believes in one Nigeria, one accord and quick time action. Change is now come
expect nothing but change because whatever happens now is all in the interest of all Nigerians.
BELONG is repeated twice. He is a Nigerian for “good” and progress. I belong to everybody and I
belong to nobody is a conditional statement. This is to guide President Buhari throughout his
presidential reign as a civilian head of state and also as the commander in chief of armed
forces. Let anyone be mindful of his discussion, debate, dialogue, advice and recommendation
towards him. Whatever is to be done must but be in the interest of all Nigerians. He is much
ready to leave all behind to die for a better Nigeria. This is a political interpretation of the
statement.
As the popular saying…. once a soldier is always a soldier. There is every element of military in
any military man no matter how he lives. You can never outlive your wits and profession but
could be guided. President Muahammdu Buhari’s approach to civilian governance is
demosyncracy – striving to be democratic in nature.
For change to manifest, Nigerians should be ready to sacrifice lots of things. We have battled
with the word “subsidy” since the previous government till today. The word has become our
economic term. The President has outlined his strategic economic stabilization projects but he
3. needs people with the akin will to build up theories, concepts, modules and parameters to
accomplish it all. It is high time we engender analytic approach to governance both at the state
and federal level. We should be qualified and quantifiable enough to handle and tackle all the
socio-economic issues.
In business or commercial hemisphere, a good business plan is required. The business plan
must be driven by a goal. There must be shared vision among the business managers and
supporters. This is not different with governance.
The goal of Presidential Buhari is CHANGE. The mission statement is “I belong to everybody
and I belong to nobody”. The vision is our national anthem. Our vision is clear and yet we have
failed to achieve much over and over again. This economic menace should stop; Fuel problem,
Boko haram, Militants, and other threats beneath it all.
As hazardous as petrol is, we have long queues with gallons, in the sun
As infectious as mobile phone is lots of the gallon bearers receive calls in the sun
As heat is from the sun a little scratch inflates fire
Why risk our lives in the name of power
In the suburbs everyone has power generating sets
We sleep with noise and battle to sleep
How did we come about this situation? How do we resolve it?
The answer is Change and Sacrifice. Now the election and transition are over. We welcome
change; we welcome the Nigeria change agents: President Buhari and Vice President Osinbajo.
Long live Nigeria! I believe in common sense. Keep track!
