ESSAY on "Role of youth in nation building and progress".JawairyaMunir
A motivational essay, that can enlighten new generation's vision and could diversify the basic attributes for becoming a responsible and patriotic citizen. Also, specifying how today's youth can be empowered.
This first Jordanian National Human Development Report focuses on the condition and role of young people in the country, arguing that the capacity of young Jordanians to contribute to national development and to compete in the global economy will determine whether Jordan remains a low middle income country or joins the ranks of the world's advanced economies. The Report looks at young people's lives and aspirations in the three key areas of education, employment and social integration, finding for example that 60% of all unemployed people are below that age of 25. The Report concludes that although Jordan has made significant advances in building people's capabilities, there is room for improvement in aspects of gender-equality, employment, income and quality and relevance of education, and ends with a substantial section on policy recommendations suggesting strategies for addressing this shortfall.
This manual was developed to equip young people with a better understanding of the peculiar issues faced by young women and girls, how gender constructs and gender inequality has contributed to this, and how young people can advocate for more equitable societies and gender just communities and institutions. Young people will also be equipped to develop change pathways for tackling gender discrimination including applying a gender analysis in all their advocacy initiatives and leveraging movements and collective efforts for gender justice.

The Role of Youths in Electoral Processes: An Appraisal of the Nigerian 2015 ...inventionjournals
Youths represent a significant proportion of the Nigerian Population, but in spite of this, their level of political participation and representation in the electoral process in the past has been very poor and often times undermined; being largely noticed at the level of electoral malpractices, voting irregularities and covert or overtthuggery in support of political office seekers who paradoxically have dominated the political arena to the point of total exclusion of the youths, yet all groups (youths inclusive) seek to influence dispensation of power. The research therefore sets out to analytically x-ray the issues and challenges that confronted youths in previous general elections viz a viz the tremendous effort made by youths in making the 2015 general elections a success, by particularly the use of social media as a propaganda machine and the dogged attitude displayed in the course of retrieving permanent voters card which is unparrarelled and unprecedented. The research implores the use of vivid descriptive scenarios to make sound and logical arguments on the plight and strive of youth in forestalling equity and fair play in our electoral process and also on the strides recorded thereof. Using variables such as lack of proper electoral education and sensitization in the past, religious, regional and sectional divide, poverty, deprivation, thuggery, social media, permanent voters card and so forth, the researchers conclude that youths have in the past been largely responsible for scuttling elections but were however instrumental to the success of the 2015 general elections. It therefore recommends amongst other things that, it is imperative to develop and enhance the capability of youths in the electoral process by creating a robust orientation programme and also engaging them to become financially and morally equip, so as to drastically reduce if not totally eradicate arm-twisting or manipulation of youths in the society.
Rethinking Youth Economic Empowerment In Nigeria: Deepened Democratization, E...QUESTJOURNAL
ABSTRACT: Over the last few decades, the collapse of commodity prices and the attendant leaning of public resources ; incessant rise in births in the African continent leading to the expansion and geometrical growth of population; the growth of corruption within leadership of nations as a result of lessening sense of transparency and accountability have along with other factors jointly combined to impact negatively on the quality of today's youth and youthful populations in many African countries. In Nigeria, our main focus, the dominant majority of the youth population have been both targets and in some cases victims of maladministration of the nation's political and elite class. As targets of public officials and policy makers, several strategies have been worked out, a lot of resources expended all with a bid to checkmate the prolonged devastation that majorly confronted this vital group of a nation's population. In scripting this paper, consideration was given to data obtainable from seconadry literature compiled by other researchers and public sector documents from institutions of government at various levels -local, state and federal. The paper was concluded with a presentation of a series of program and policy level recommendations.

Youth, unemployment and national security in nigeriaOnyinye Chime
Abstract
Youth unemployment as it concerns national security has been garnering a significant body of literature. In the
burgeoning literature, the component parts of youth, unemployment and national security is not adequately
assessed and analyzed. This paper is an attempt to describe and analyze the component parts for a better
appreciation of youth unemployment on national security issues and challenges. The paper goes on to confirm
and put in historical perspective that the youth bulge and unemployment are catalysts to national security issues
and challenges. While not diminishing their importance, the paper posits that some of the data used in analyzing
unemployment need to be re-evaluated, placed in context and a new perspective proffered on the role and
importance of youth unemployment in the broad area of national security.

Youth in Contemporary Politics Roles and Benefits in Nigeriaijtsrd
The youth in contemporary Nigerian politics has played the role of acting the political thug for older politicians in the country. In this study, the researchers set out to examine the role and benefits of the youth in modern-day politics with specific reference to the recent Nigerias ‘‘Not-Too-Young-to-Run Bill. It is in this light that this paper adopted Role theory in explaining the role of the youth in contemporary Nigerian politics. It is obvious that with the Not-Too-Young-to-Run Bill, the youth in Nigeria can now participate effectively in the nations political processes, and not continue to play the dirty role of hooligan on the payroll of the sit-tight political leader who wants to perpetuate himself in power. The paper contends that the Federal government and the electoral umpire body, the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC , should make it a priority to fully implement the Not-Too-Young-to-Run Bill, to give many more youths the opportunity to vie for electoral offices in the country. In addition, youths should be included in the nations political processes by enlightening them on their role and benefits in such processes not just to function as political thugs but to aspire to run for electoral offices themselves. Moral Education for a Free and Stable NigeriaSaheed Jabaar
The presentation analyses the issues surrounding the concept of human freedom, the idea of free society, what is it to have social stability and the role education can and should play in engendering social well - being in a society which claims to uphold human freedom.
Nigeria, since its independence in October 1960 is still battling with myriad of problems among which are corruption and bad leadership. Nigeria was under the British colonial rule of Lord Frederick Lugard who was the governor of both the Northern and Southern Protectorates from January 1, 1914 until independence in 1960. It is saddening to note that over 104 years after amalgamation, the country is still grappling with national identity, insecurity, corruption. and bad leadership, which has led us to where we are now, as a third world country or developing country. When things are working well in a country, it is because the leaders are doing what is right. Everything rests on the leaders, and to think otherwise is to think amiss, because leaders determine and provide the direction others should go and the speed at which they move. Corruption will thrive and take root in a country where the leadership is corrupt, while on the other hand, uprightness will take root in a country where the leadership celebrates uprightness. Therefore, it is trite knowledge that whatever the leadership encourages grows while what it frowns at declines. This is just the plain or absolute truth. Paul A. Adekunte | Matthew N. O. (By: Comrade AbdulRahman Agboola)
The impunity and unprecedented corrupt practices recorded under the administration of President
Jonathan is audible to the deaf and visible to the blind, but the mercenaries hired by the dubious
personality that glorified stealing as different from corruption are not relenting in their fruitless
efforts to falsify the good antecedents of General Muhammad Buhari in public service to cunningly
break the cord oftrust existing between the peoples General and the helpless masses.
Muhammad Buhari is certainly the most assaulted Presidential Candidate in the history of Nigeria
by the detractors of good governance in Nigeria, owing to his readiness to restore sanity to the
polity and accord dignity to the service of the Country. They called him a religious bigot, yet he
associates with mankind in general, the called him a dictator, yet he is blessed with forthrightmen
as followers, they called him a desperate person, yet he remain calm and composed while all
attempts to derail his emergence as the Presidential Flag bearer ofAPC ended fruitlessly.
At the religion front, as a modest Muslim, there is no record of him oppressing Christians or
promoting his religious belief at the expense of others during his entire career in the Nigeria
Military. His respect for fairness and equity necessitated his insistence on a Christian as his
running mate at the 2011 Presidential Election. In his current bid for the Presidency, many
misguided personalities hired by PDP ruling government have been put to shame with the choice
of Professor Osinbajo as his running mate for the 2015 Presidential Election.
The recent onslaught against him on age ground by some misguided Youths is very laughable
because of the treacherous stance of the charlatans whipping age sentimentagainstthe peoples’
General. The poor fate of this Country today is premised on the loss ofvalues by majority ofyoung
people who engage heavily in nefarious activities in the class of Cultism, Prostitution, Armed
Robbery, Drug Abuse, Advance Free Fraud and Highhandedness.
A proof of high level of insincerity of purpose among young people is the activities of leading
Students and Youth Leaders in Nigeria under the auspices of National Association of Nigeria
Students (NANS) and National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN). Atthe NANS level, the leadership
is populated with fake students commercializing the activities of the Association selling unmerited
awards to wealthy people for pecuniary gains. The Student body does not benefit capitation fees
2. from members but the leadership lives large with gangsters who eventually dissolve into circular
politics using the students as baits to promote their political ambitions under the ruling party. Atthe
NYCN level, the National Youth Policy define Youths as people aged 18-35 years of age but the
leadership is populated with people over 40 years of age. NANS is the umbrella body for all
students in Nigeria, and NYCN is the umbrella body for all Youths in Nigeria, these associations
shortchanges the genuine members atwill and responsible for the general misbehaviours among
young people in Nigeria as statutory bodies with responsibility to guide members aright.
President Good luck Jonathan who was regarded as fresh air six years ago in his early 50years of
age has impoverished the Country with his cluelessness and mismanagement ofthe affairs ofthe
government, what the fresh air has broughtto fore is inexperience and poorgovernance which has
broughtmisfortune to both security and economy ofNigeria.
On the other hand, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu who was seen as a young man with integrity years ago
have not only disappointed his teeming believers but with shenanigans like Femi Fani-Kayode,
Nyesom Wike and a host of young men with track records in impunity, while I do not berate the
existence of notable young men with hall marks in honestdeeds, their meager population mustbe
expanded for the collective trust in young people and to this end, one cannotbutconclude thatthe
service of experienced men with proven integrity is highly needed atthis momentto setthe pace of
discipline, compliance with effective service delivery and moral uprightness for the younger
generation.
General Muhammad Buhari is 72years of age with good agility and versatility, for him to command
a gigantic level of followership convinced in his unblemished record of integrity and dignity is an
attestation of positive inclinations, which is rare but worthy of emulation by the younger generation.
His experience and understanding ofthe affairs ofthe Country as Former Head ofState is a worthy
criteria for effective leadership of the Country, while his vision for a united Nigeria where peace,
justice and tranquility will reign is an assurance that his emergence as a President will enhance
effectiveness of law and order which is the ultimate challenge confronting the Country today.
With the degeneration of moral values among youths coupled with poor leadership by the ruling
class, the young people must be redirected towards best practices, to be well positioned for
efficient and productive leadership. At the moment, the versatility of General Muhammad Buhari
and Professor Yemi Osinbajo with untainted records in public service and positive antecedents in
3. effective service delivery is the best for the people of this Country to provide profound leadership
for the people and return the Country to the path of orderliness and greatness.
Professor Yemi Osinbajo is reputed in honest deeds and humanitarian action. As a renowned
Scholar and astute legal luminary with experience and sound exposure in the rule of law as a
leading Constitutional Lawyer in Nigeria with versatility in finance and economy, he is well
positioned to complement the forthrightness of General Muhammad Buhari to take Nigeria out of
the doldrums to greater heights.
The few young people committed to good deeds must be wary ofthe antics ofthe dubious youths
profiteering from the misrule ofPresidentJonathan attacking the personality ofMuhammad Buhari,
it is our responsibility to foster the growth and development of this Country by rallying round and
facilitate the realization of a system change offered by the charismatic potentials of the gallant
Presidential Flag bearer of APC, General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd) and his erudite running mate,
Professor Yemi Osinbajo.
