Maintaining a Healthy Diet with
Type 2 Diabetes
By Dave Katra
Introduction
• Dave Katra is a California-licensed fiduciary who
serves as trustee and executor for clients who are
elderly and have special needs. As head of Senior
Life Solutions SV, Dave Katra provides services such
as medical and diabetes Type 2 management. For
individuals with type 2 diabetes, maintaining a
healthy diet is an especially important aspect of
keeping blood sugars under control and continuing
a fulfilling lifestyle.
The key issue people with Type 2 diabetes face is
that carbohydrates break down in the blood system
into glucose more quickly than other food types.
Type 2 Diabetes
• This means that the presence of excessive starchy
vegetables, pasta, bread, fruit, and grains can lead to
elevated blood sugar levels. Fats are not a direct
contributor to this, but should be eaten in
moderation.
Staying within acceptable blood sugar levels
requires monitoring the amount of carbohydrates in
meals and snacks. One successful approach involves
starting with non-starchy vegetables as a base, and
filling out the meal with seeds, nuts, whole gains,
and low-fat dairy items.
