2. What are Spiritual Principles?
(and why do we care?)
• “They’re part of our approach to life – ways of being, doing, thinking,
believing, behaving, and engaging with life.”*
• Not religious or supernatural.
• “The more aware we are of these principles… the more we grow, and
the more meaning and satisfaction we can find in life.”*
• Personal values map to and inform our professional values.

3. What are the principles?
Some suggestions*:
• Gratitude - take nothing for granted, recognise how lucky we are.
• Humility – be neutral, let go of the need to place ourselves above (or below)
others.
• Optimism - not a childish hope or belief that something good will happen, but a
proactive state of mind. A bias toward acting in such a way as to cause good
things to happen.
• Generosity - we feel larger, stronger, fuller, more engaged, and more effective by
the simple act of giving to others.
• Forgiveness - forgiving is not about approving or condoning what someone has
done – it’s about letting go of it.
• Intention – Don’t be passive and stuck in second gear. Choose a focus, don’t be
afraid of making the wrong choice.
• Expectation – We choose how we respond to outcomes.
