OUR BASIC PRINCIPLES ON
SIMULATION ON VESSEL’S COLLISION & ANGLE OF BLOW
Our unique angle of blow program had been made in 2007 based on V.U. Minorsky’s
Kinetic Energy Absorbed and vessel’s displacement, and plotting program showing both
vessel’s movement until the collision with each other had been made in 2006 based on
the vessel’s movement data such as telegraph, course recorder, now AIS, etc.
Within the area covered by VTS, both vessel’s plotting used to be available, but it would
not be available at open sea. Our simulation is very details with radar range, navigation
lights, vessel’s actual shape, etc.

OUR BASIC PRINCIPLES ON RISK MANAGE SURVEY
FOR LOAD, SEA-FASTENING AND DISCHARGE WARRANTY
We understood that the marine risk management survey such as Towage Approval and
obliged warranty of load, sea-fastening, discharge in marine insurance policy has not
been properly effected in Korea in comparing with hydrostatic science, marine
architecture engineering in advance foreign country even though Korea has kept with the
leading worldwide position on heavy, project cargo for over 20 years.
Our professional principles on whole transportation process of project, heavy cargo by
towage with barge, which were accumulated many / enormous cases in South East Asia
such as Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Korea, are as follows, and we wish to our
scientific survey will contribute to development of marine survey companies in Korea.
1. LIFTING OF THE CARGO BY SHORE CRANE
Preparation for surveyor
1. Layout drawing of cargo(if not, length x breadth x height and COG of both
lengthwise and breadthwise direction)
2. Specification of crane, all of lifting gears(length, thickness or dia. relevant
MBL to be verified)
The concept of "centre of mass" in the form of the "centre of gravity" was first
introduced by the ancient Greek physicist, mathematician, and engineer
Archimedes of Syracuse.
First, we will match COG of both Crane hook and the cargo by using utmost strong
laser beam good enough for daytime using. In accordance with physics, social
science, our engineering will prevent the cargo from possible incline and breakage
of lifting slings, etc.

2. LOADING ON SPMT(Self-Propelled Modular Transporter)
Preparation for surveyor
1. Details of SPMT(Maker, Axle Capacity, estimated speed, technical data,
cant angle, plan and elevation views)
2. Brief cargo stowage position on SPMT(or Modular)
We calculate Module transporter Tilting angle at 3 points or 4 points prior to load
the intended cargo with safe speed.
RIMS
4
3. SAFE PASSING ON RAMP WAY STEEL PLATE BETWEEN BARGE AND PIER
Preparation for surveyor
1. Distance between end wall of pier and end wall plate of the barge
2. Spec. of ramp way steel plate(grade, viz; SS600, L x B x Thick.)
3. Stacking plan of ramp way plate(example, 2 tiers x 3 lines)
We calculate shear stress, bending stress, combined stress at the ramp way steel
plate for safety passing of the cargo.
RIMS
5
4. SAFE MOORING OF THE BARGE
Preparation for surveyor
1. Barge's particulars, mean draft, lightship displacement
2. Wind speed, current speed and direction, water depth
3. Stacking plan of ramp way plate(example, 2 tiers x 3 lines)
Based on above environment fact, we calculate the mooring forces and prevent
the barge from moving, departing from pier during cargo load or roll-on operation.
Most of coastal barge used to be moored alongside by use of 2 or 4 lines of
mooring rope in improper method, by which the big casualty of cargo collapsing
can be incurred. If mooring force would be not enough, the tug boat should be
pushed the barge towards the pier.
RIMS
6
5. SF Forces due to barge motions(Roll, Pitch)
Preparation for surveyor
1. Hydrostatic booklet of the barge
2. Cargo stowage onboard the barge(distance from LCG, VCG, TCG)
3. Lashing and stopper plates installation plan
4) Specification of all lashing, stopper plates including MBL
We calculate the Roll-force, Pitch-force which can be acted on the cargo in
comparing with SF(Sea Fastening) force for preventing the cargo from moving
during the voyage.
NOTE
Some Korean surveyor used to adopted CSS(Code of Safe Practice for
Cargo Stowage and Securing) of IMO, which can be useful on self-propelled
merchant vessel, that is a kind of Rule of Thumb, not exact engineering on
sea fastening of cargo onboard the barge.

6. REQUIRED BOLLARD PULL CALCULATION
Preparation for surveyor
1. Bollard Pull certificate of tug(if not, engine power and ship's age)
2. Draft of the barge loaded with full cargo
We calculate RT(total resistance) which may act both to tug and barge based on
the worst criteria, guidance from DNV, NDA or BV in comparing with BP of tug
boat.(if resulted in Negative, the tug boat should be changed to more powerful
one).
RIMS
9
7. SAFETY OF ALL TOWING GEARS & CONNECTION
Preparation for surveyor
1. Bollard Pull certificate of tug(if not, engine power and ship's age)
2. Specification of all towing gear and connection(including MBL of SWL)
3. Description of towing lights / shape both on tug and barge
Considering RT(total resistance) acted both to tug and barge in comparing with
tug's continuous BP(Bollard Pull), safety of all towing connections will be checked.
RIMS

8. SAFETY OF TOWING PAD EYES / BOLLARD / BITT
Preparation for surveyor
1. Materials of bollard, bitt, pad eyes
2. Diameter and thickness of Bollard pipe
We calculate bollard pipe strength and base plate with welding line for preventing
these from detaching from barge's tank top plate during the towage.

OUR PROFESSIONAL PRINCIPLES ON RISK MANAGE SURVEY
FOR LOAD, LASHING OF CARGO ON FLAT-RACK CONTAINER
The most important risk management on loading, stowage, lashing of a cargo on flat-rack
containers can be emphasized with the following facts :
Center of Gravity
Proper determination and identification of the
center of gravity for the cargo is of great
importance. If the center of gravity of the cargo
is not determined and taken into consideration
before stuffing, the cargo may be susceptible
to shifting off the flat during transit. This results
in cargo damage and possible personal
injuries.
The weight of the cargo should be centered on
the flat rack. When shipping wooden crates, it
is always preferable to mark the center of
gravity on the exterior of the crate for handling
and securing reference purposes.
Dunnage
This weight of the cargo must be properly distributed over the length of the flat rack. It is
preferable that the weight be spread in such a manner that the load does not exceed
2,500 pounds per liner foot (inside dimensions) of the flat rack. Dunnage and wooden
blocks must be made of hardwood and be free of defects and insects. Short pieces of
wood and wooden pallets should not be utilized as dunnage.
RIMS
2
Lashing
Lashing of the cargo must be carried out in accordance with "IMO MSC/CIR 745
GUIDLINES FOR CARGO SCEUING MANUAL AND GOOD SEAMANSHIPPRACTICE"
Lashing materials (wires, chains, rods, tensioners, turnbuckles, etc) must be approved
and of suitable size and capacity, taking into consideration the weight of cargo to be
secured. As a general rule of thumb, the combined breaking strength of the lashings to
be used must be at least 1.8 times the weight of cargo to be secured.
Suitable "chafing gear" and/or "softeners" is to be fitted on the lashings in any areas
where the lashings make contact with the cargo, other lashing, or the structure of the flat
rack itself, in order to prevent excessive wear and subsequent failure of the lashings.
Wheeled cargo
When preparing the stowage and securing plan for wheeled cargo, the wheelbase
dimensions of the cargo must be considered in order to determine whether of not the
cargo will be out of gauge. Wheeled cargo must be secured with proper lashings.
However, the wheels should be secured further with wooden blocks. The wooden blocks
used for this purpose must be as wide as they as high.
Lashing Certificate
The stowage and securing of the cargo on a flat rack should be supervised by a
competent cargo surveyor. ZIM requires that all Shippers using flat rack for their cargo
provide a lashing certificate, issued by a competent cargo surveyor prior to acceptance
and loading of the cargo. If the Shipper does not provide the lashing certificate, the
Shipping company will nominate an independent surveyor to confirm safe loading,
lashing, and protection of the cargo against the normal risks of ocean transportation. The
costs for such surveyor are added to the account of the Customer.
From the above, you must check your survey conducted the above-mentioned items with
specialized skills, experience and embedded it to the survey report accordingly. Unless
otherwise, most of logic companies will lost the accumulated company's name value
through hard service in market. Especially, most of local survey companies do not
even have acknowledgement. In this case, relevant shipping line will reject the load
or your buyer will file a severe claim against the logic company due to poor
stowage / lashing of OOG(Out of Gauge) cargo.

OUR BASIC PRINCIPLES ON HIGHEST QUALITY
ON-OFF HIRE SURVEY
Based on our witness, it is of afraid that most of the On-Off hire survey in South-East
Asia have been conducted with confused words of hull damage, ambiguous bunker ROB
survey.
For eliminating some faulty survey for delivery and re-delivery survey, it will be appreciate
if you can read, consider about our unique highest qualitity survey for Onhire, Offhire hull
condition + bunker ROB survey based on our basic principle as follows :
1. HULL DAMAGE CERTIFICATE INDICATING EXACT DAMAGE LOCATION
Normal damage remakrs by other survey company
- Apart from minor dents / bents notede to access ladders in cargo hold No. 1
and 5, the vessel is deem fit for her intended voyage.
- Various degrees of bending noted to main deck hand rails.
Our hull damage remakrs with exact location
- Vertical ladder in way of the 2nd platform form the top of No. 1 cargo
hold was dented/waved 1.5 meters in length.
- Starboard side shell ‘S-1’ plate from fr. #208 to 210 in way of No. 1
cargo hold was chipped 10cm in length at 2 places.
We can check above hull damage in comparing with ship's relevant drawings such
as 'Side shell expansioin', 'General Arrangement', 'Construction Profile'. Therefore,
our remakrs on hull damage can prevent the Owners & Charterers from
agrument on before/during the Chartering period.

2. PRECISE / EXACT BUNKER REMAIN ONBOARD(ROB) QUANTITY
Based on our abundant expirence, most of the vessel have had a pocket bunker
as the vessel's chief engineer worried about possible future shortage to
daily onboard bunker quantity, which should be reported to the Owners.
Regarding the above, the attending surveyors used not to calculate quantity of
pocket bunker at pathetic request by the chief engineer's explaning their situation
and evitable readiness.
However, we can find the exact pocket bunker quantity by reviewing the abstrac
log book, daily consumtion, and issue the ROB certificate at delivery or re-delivery
time including the pocket bunker quantity. Therefore, the Charterers can save
about 6 to 10 tons of bunker quantity.
3. PRECISE / EXACT HULL INSPECTION AT NIGHTTIME
The photos taken at nighttime by more than 90% of survey company are terrible,
can not visible due to their lantern less than 1,000 luminous tensity, additionally
their used caramera is not proper, just compact size. The result of photo is as
under :
On the contrary, we used high profeesional latern of which luminous tensity is
more than 4,500 Lux. effectived distance is 450 meters. Our camera is also DSLR
type fantastic night vision function. The result of our equipments showed the
following photos at deep nighttime as :
RIMS
3
4. AEROSCOPIC PHOTOS USING QUATER COPTER CAM
Normal surveyor can not take a picture efficiently on overall, birdview of the vessel,
especially a hull damage which was incurred at a point which can not be
assessible.
However, we have used modern quater copter equipped with RC camera with
stablity control gimble, by which whole outer hull plates, cargo hold, ship's crane
can be checked within 30cm in distance.
This birdview photos can be also used for your vessel's business fine brochure
additioinally.
In addition to the above, we definitely have capability to carry out hull condition survey as
hull unerwriter survey, P & I Entry survey, etc., and hidden bunker special survey by
using our own sounding scale, analysis of bunker pipe header / line. RC monitoring
camcoder watching bunker supplier's questionable actioin througout the bunker supply
operation.
In spite of above our own skill for best delivery / re-delivery survey, our survey fee is also
most same as that of normal survey company, viz ; USD900 per vessel(GT less than
15,000 tons, USD1,100 more than GT 15,000 tons).
We will do our utmost effeort to conduct the highest quality survy on behalf of our client,
thereby you don't have to pay unreasonable. This is also priorty for a big growth of your
good company.
Hightly appreciate for reading above survey principle of ours.

Our professional principles on whole transportation process of project, heavy cargo by towage with barge, which were accumulated many / enormous cases in South East Asia such as Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Korea, are as follows, and we wish to our scientific survey will contribute to development of marine survey companies in Korea. 1. LIFTING OF THE CARGO BY SHORE CRANE Preparation for surveyor 1. Layout drawing of cargo(if not, length x breadth x height and COG of both lengthwise and breadthwise direction) 2. Specification of crane, all of lifting gears(length, thickness or dia. relevant MBL to be verified) The concept of "centre of mass" in the form of the "centre of gravity" was first introduced by the ancient Greek physicist, mathematician, and engineer Archimedes of Syracuse. First, we will match COG of both Crane hook and the cargo by using utmost strong laser beam good enough for daytime using. In accordance with physics, social science, our engineering will prevent the cargo from possible incline and breakage of lifting slings, etc.

  • 18. RIMS 4 3. SAFE PASSING ON RAMP WAY STEEL PLATE BETWEEN BARGE AND PIER Preparation for surveyor 1. Distance between end wall of pier and end wall plate of the barge 2. Spec. of ramp way steel plate(grade, viz; SS600, L x B x Thick.) 3. Stacking plan of ramp way plate(example, 2 tiers x 3 lines) We calculate shear stress, bending stress, combined stress at the ramp way steel plate for safety passing of the cargo.
  • 19. RIMS 5 4. SAFE MOORING OF THE BARGE Preparation for surveyor 1. Barge's particulars, mean draft, lightship displacement 2. Wind speed, current speed and direction, water depth 3. Stacking plan of ramp way plate(example, 2 tiers x 3 lines) Based on above environment fact, we calculate the mooring forces and prevent the barge from moving, departing from pier during cargo load or roll-on operation. Most of coastal barge used to be moored alongside by use of 2 or 4 lines of mooring rope in improper method, by which the big casualty of cargo collapsing can be incurred. If mooring force would be not enough, the tug boat should be pushed the barge towards the pier.
  • 20. RIMS 6 5. SF Forces due to barge motions(Roll, Pitch) Preparation for surveyor 1. Hydrostatic booklet of the barge 2. Cargo stowage onboard the barge(distance from LCG, VCG, TCG) 3. Lashing and stopper plates installation plan 4) Specification of all lashing, stopper plates including MBL We calculate the Roll-force, Pitch-force which can be acted on the cargo in comparing with SF(Sea Fastening) force for preventing the cargo from moving during the voyage. NOTE Some Korean surveyor used to adopted CSS(Code of Safe Practice for Cargo Stowage and Securing) of IMO, which can be useful on self-propelled merchant vessel, that is a kind of Rule of Thumb, not exact engineering on sea fastening of cargo onboard the barge.

If the center of gravity of the cargo is not determined and taken into consideration before stuffing, the cargo may be susceptible to shifting off the flat during transit. This results in cargo damage and possible personal injuries. The weight of the cargo should be centered on the flat rack. When shipping wooden crates, it is always preferable to mark the center of gravity on the exterior of the crate for handling and securing reference purposes. Dunnage This weight of the cargo must be properly distributed over the length of the flat rack. It is preferable that the weight be spread in such a manner that the load does not exceed 2,500 pounds per liner foot (inside dimensions) of the flat rack. Dunnage and wooden blocks must be made of hardwood and be free of defects and insects. Short pieces of wood and wooden pallets should not be utilized as dunnage.
  • 26. RIMS 2 Lashing Lashing of the cargo must be carried out in accordance with "IMO MSC/CIR 745 GUIDLINES FOR CARGO SCEUING MANUAL AND GOOD SEAMANSHIPPRACTICE" Lashing materials (wires, chains, rods, tensioners, turnbuckles, etc) must be approved and of suitable size and capacity, taking into consideration the weight of cargo to be secured. As a general rule of thumb, the combined breaking strength of the lashings to be used must be at least 1.8 times the weight of cargo to be secured. Suitable "chafing gear" and/or "softeners" is to be fitted on the lashings in any areas where the lashings make contact with the cargo, other lashing, or the structure of the flat rack itself, in order to prevent excessive wear and subsequent failure of the lashings. Wheeled cargo When preparing the stowage and securing plan for wheeled cargo, the wheelbase dimensions of the cargo must be considered in order to determine whether of not the cargo will be out of gauge. Wheeled cargo must be secured with proper lashings. However, the wheels should be secured further with wooden blocks. The wooden blocks used for this purpose must be as wide as they as high. Lashing Certificate The stowage and securing of the cargo on a flat rack should be supervised by a competent cargo surveyor. ZIM requires that all Shippers using flat rack for their cargo provide a lashing certificate, issued by a competent cargo surveyor prior to acceptance and loading of the cargo. If the Shipper does not provide the lashing certificate, the Shipping company will nominate an independent surveyor to confirm safe loading, lashing, and protection of the cargo against the normal risks of ocean transportation. The costs for such surveyor are added to the account of the Customer. From the above, you must check your survey conducted the above-mentioned items with specialized skills, experience and embedded it to the survey report accordingly. Unless otherwise, most of logic companies will lost the accumulated company's name value through hard service in market. Especially, most of local survey companies do not even have acknowledgement. In this case, relevant shipping line will reject the load or your buyer will file a severe claim against the logic company due to poor stowage / lashing of OOG(Out of Gauge) cargo.

For eliminating some faulty survey for delivery and re-delivery survey, it will be appreciate if you can read, consider about our unique highest qualitity survey for Onhire, Offhire hull condition + bunker ROB survey based on our basic principle as follows : 1. HULL DAMAGE CERTIFICATE INDICATING EXACT DAMAGE LOCATION Normal damage remakrs by other survey company - Apart from minor dents / bents notede to access ladders in cargo hold No. 1 and 5, the vessel is deem fit for her intended voyage. - Various degrees of bending noted to main deck hand rails. Our hull damage remakrs with exact location - Vertical ladder in way of the 2nd platform form the top of No. 1 cargo hold was dented/waved 1.5 meters in length. - Starboard side shell ‘S-1’ plate from fr. #208 to 210 in way of No. 1 cargo hold was chipped 10cm in length at 2 places. We can check above hull damage in comparing with ship's relevant drawings such as 'Side shell expansioin', 'General Arrangement', 'Construction Profile'. Therefore, our remakrs on hull damage can prevent the Owners & Charterers from agrument on before/during the Chartering period.
  • 37. RIMS 2 2. PRECISE / EXACT BUNKER REMAIN ONBOARD(ROB) QUANTITY Based on our abundant expirence, most of the vessel have had a pocket bunker as the vessel's chief engineer worried about possible future shortage to daily onboard bunker quantity, which should be reported to the Owners. Regarding the above, the attending surveyors used not to calculate quantity of pocket bunker at pathetic request by the chief engineer's explaning their situation and evitable readiness. However, we can find the exact pocket bunker quantity by reviewing the abstrac log book, daily consumtion, and issue the ROB certificate at delivery or re-delivery time including the pocket bunker quantity. Therefore, the Charterers can save about 6 to 10 tons of bunker quantity. 3. PRECISE / EXACT HULL INSPECTION AT NIGHTTIME The photos taken at nighttime by more than 90% of survey company are terrible, can not visible due to their lantern less than 1,000 luminous tensity, additionally their used caramera is not proper, just compact size. The result of photo is as under : On the contrary, we used high profeesional latern of which luminous tensity is more than 4,500 Lux. effectived distance is 450 meters. Our camera is also DSLR type fantastic night vision function. The result of our equipments showed the following photos at deep nighttime as :
  • 38. RIMS 3 4. AEROSCOPIC PHOTOS USING QUATER COPTER CAM Normal surveyor can not take a picture efficiently on overall, birdview of the vessel, especially a hull damage which was incurred at a point which can not be assessible. However, we have used modern quater copter equipped with RC camera with stablity control gimble, by which whole outer hull plates, cargo hold, ship's crane can be checked within 30cm in distance. This birdview photos can be also used for your vessel's business fine brochure additioinally. In addition to the above, we definitely have capability to carry out hull condition survey as hull unerwriter survey, P & I Entry survey, etc., and hidden bunker special survey by using our own sounding scale, analysis of bunker pipe header / line. RC monitoring camcoder watching bunker supplier's questionable actioin througout the bunker supply operation. In spite of above our own skill for best delivery / re-delivery survey, our survey fee is also most same as that of normal survey company, viz ; USD900 per vessel(GT less than 15,000 tons, USD1,100 more than GT 15,000 tons). We will do our utmost effeort to conduct the highest quality survy on behalf of our client, thereby you don't have to pay unreasonable. This is also priorty for a big growth of your good company. Hightly appreciate for reading above survey principle of ours. Capt. Daniel J.G. Kim / Directing Manter of RIMS
