This document summarizes a research project on the local and oral history of Barangay Banilad in Cebu City, Philippines. The student conducted interviews with older residents and barangay employees to understand the origin and meaning of the barangay's name, as well as its political, cultural, socio-economic background and problems. Key findings include that the name comes from the Banilad tree and a local medicinal preparation. The barangay has over 22,000 residents from a range of socioeconomic classes and provides schools, health centers, and chapels. Recommendations focus on promoting the barangay's programs and welcoming participation.

Rationale of the Study
This is conducted to know and evaluate the local and oral
history of Barangay Banilad in Cebu City.
A tool to influence and inform others about the history and
strengths of the Barangay.
Informations on the list of officials, situation and the
problems, issues and conflict happening in the Barangay
Banilad.
7. Objectives of the Study
To know more about Barangay Banilad:
its history and interpret the information.
its name, origin and meaning.
its political, cultural, social and economic background.
To identify the causes of some problems in the Barangay
and its solutions.
8. Scope & Delimitations
This study focuses on the Local and Oral History of Barangay
Banilad in Cebu City.
The respondents: old citizens and the barangay employees.
This study is by the Grade seven students of University Of
San Carlos- North Campus, Basic Education Department.

1.“Barangay” - barrio, the smallest administrative division; a term for a
village or district.
2. “University Of San Carlos- North Campus, Basic Education
Department” – a school in Cebu of coed students with primary and
secondary education.
3.“Banilad” - a place or barangay located in the province of Cebu.
4."Tilad" – It is a buyoleaf.
5.“Cebu” - Island province in the Philippines.
6. “Barangay Hall” – a place where public officials or persons in
authority do their work.

12. Results and Discussion
History of the Barangay
The name Barangay Banilad is from Banilad Tree.
Old folks say it is from the word "tilad", a buyoleaf, a
pinch of lime/apog powder, 1/4 size of bungat nut, and
tobacco leaf, chewed and is believed to have therapeuic value.
During the Spanish time, it is called "Banilad Friar
Lands".

Individual Recommendations
I would like to recommend Barangay Banilad to
everyone. It is having a road widening to lessen
traffic.
I would like to invite everyone, the Barangay
welcomes them to join and participate in its
activities and programs, especially on Sports and
Leagues.
20. Individual Learnings
I have gained knowledge through this research; I learned
during the interviews about informations, origin and
history of the Barangay. Also on its political, cultural,
social and economic background.
There are 22,297 people resided in the Baranagay. The
number of schools,Health Centers, Sports Complex and
Chapels which are provided for the people.
There are projects and programs that the barangay has made
to better improve the situation and problems.
I have also learned about the percentage of (a person or a
family's) income, education and occupation through the three
areas of (SES)Socio-economic status.
21. Individual Learnings
Barangay is the smallest administrative division in
the government of Philippines.
Interviewing old people, I get to know more about
the Barangay Banilad. Old people know more
because they have lived through the
olden&traditional times to the modern days, the
evolution of a simple barrio to a barangay.
