DESIGNing for manufacturing
Focus
The broad focused of this applied project is to draw knowledge and understanding from the exploration of manufacturing and regulatory procedures for medical
devices. A concept of a wheelchair will serve as a vehicle for achieving the goal of synthesizing the evaluation process, using the regulatory and engineering
results to Ideate, select and implement a working prototype ready for production. The role of Industrial designers often ends in the prototype stages of any give
artifact. The likelihood of venturing into the evaluation and manufacturing process is rather limited. HOwever, Venturing into the manufacturing and evaluation
stages for industrial designers, is crucial to understand and be capable of assessing the quality and responsibility of their choices in materials and manufacturing
processes. This applied project aims at exploring a broad multi-factorial system of the Designer/Maker Interface of The Design Triad (Designing A Journey through Time
pg.12). Furthermore, by utilizing Auto-ethnography as the main research device I will be able to efficiently understand and evaluate the stages of any giving artifact to
be created.
