2. COURSE OBJECTIVES
This nursing specialty theory course introduces
students to the theories on growth , development,
anticipatory guidance for children and adolescents in
various developmental stages.
Through this course students will develop
perspectives on wellness and health issues in children
and adolescents, emphasizing family – centered care.
They will also able to discuss the role of child health
nursing and observe these problems within
Bangladesh context, and plan to provide evidenced
based care through research in the area of disease
prevention, health screening, and health promotion.

science
• Paediatrics is a Branch of medical science that deals the care of children
from conception to adolescence in health and. It is concerned with
preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative care of children.
• According to UNICEF definition, the age limit of childhood ranges from
birth up to 18. The major goal for paediatric nursing is to improve the
quality of health care for children and their families
• Paediatrics is a relatively new medical specialty, developing only in the
mid-19th century.
• Abraham Jacobi (1830 – 1919) is known as the father of paediatrics.

4. AIM OF PEDIATRIC
NURSING
• The aims of the study of Paediatric nursing is to reduce infant and child rate of
deaths, control the spread of infectious disease, promote healthy lifestyles for a
long disease-free life and help ease the problems of children and adolescents
with chronic conditions.
• Paediatrics nursing care several conditions among children including: Injuries,
Infections, Genetic and congenital conditions, Cancers, Organ diseases and
dysfunctions
• Paediatric nurse is concerned not only care immediate management of the child
illness but also provide long term care on quality of life, disability and survival.
• Paediatric nurse are involved in the prevention, early detection and
management of problem including: Developmental delays and disorders,
Behavioural problems, Functional disabilities, Social stress, Organ diseases and
