forearm which ends closest to your thumb). A simple way
to find this is by joining your hands between the thumb
and forefinger
LU 9 On the radial end of the transverse crease of the
wrist, where the radial artery pulsates.
LARGE INTESTINE MERIDIAN
LI 4 (DO NOT USE IF PREGNANT) Located at
the highest point of the muscle when thumb
and index fingers are held together

Addressing Emotions
and Spirit (shen) through their
connection with our organs
Shen is our spirit.
Each organ is
connected
to spirit
and thus,
to our emotions.
Gateways to Spirit
• These five points, Po Hu, Shen Tang, Hun Men, Yi She and Zhi Shi are excellent
supplements for any emotional, psychological or spirit-focused treatments.
• Coupled with detox, lifestyle changes and emotional support therapies, these five
points can help support your journey through anxiety, depression and more.
Outer Shu emotion
points in detail
Ub 42 – Po hu, Door of the Corporeal Soul
• At the most basic level, Po Hu nourishes
and tonifies the lung. Because it is at the
same level as Ub 13, Fei Shu (Lung Shu) it
assists with all the functions of the lung. It
can support treatments for asthma, upper
respiratory infections and traditionally it was
used for chronic diseases such as
tuberculosis and lung cancer.
• Conditions of grief, melancholy and
sadness. It also helps us get in touch with
our gut instinct, our intuition and help us
fulfill our destiny.
Ub 44 – Shen
Tang, Hall of Spirit
• Shen Tang lies at the same level as Xin
Shu, the heart shu.
• Indications: Calms the spirit, anxiety and
insomnia as well as emotional states
such as depression, mental restlessness
and worry.
Ub 47 – Hun
Men, Gate of the
Ethereal soul
• Hun Men lies at the same level
as gan shu, the shu of the liver.
• Indications: feeling confused and
depressed, unable to plan their lives.
The hun is the source of our inspiration
and drive. By opening this gate, we can
potentially gain greater clarity in the
direction of our lives.
• Gaining inspiration, opening creative
blocks or encourages forward movement
on a project.
Ub 49 – Yi
She, Abode
of Thought
Yi She is at the same level as Pi
Shu, the spleen shu.
Indications:
• Worry and over-thinking
• Yi She is a perfect point for people who feel
mentally overworked and burnt out. It is
also a good point for people who are
afraid to try new things, or those who
tend to be withdrawn or wrapped up in
their own thoughts.
• Assists in setting stronger boundaries, who
need help focusing or managing tasks, or
even students trying to study.
Ub 52 – Zhi Shi,
Residence of Will
• Zhi Shi is found at the same level as Shen Shu
(the back shu of the kidneys).
• The kidneys store our yin,
yang, and our jing making Zhi Shi an excellent
point for extreme fatigue and exhaustion.
• But in being an outer shu it is also a gateway
for the zhi. The zhi is our willpower.
• Indications: This is a New Year’s Resolution
point (that can be used all year round) to
help support people trying to meet their
goals but finding themselves self-
sabotaging. This is an excellent point for
people whose depression manifests as a
lack of interest in previous hobbies or an
inability to complete tasks. It is also an
excellent point for people who feel
powerless or hopeless.

Moxibustion: The art of heat
What is moxibustion?
• Moxibustion is the external use of the
herb mugwort or wormwood performed by
rolling it in the shape of a cigar and lighting it with
a match to smolder. It has been used in many
indigenous cultures for its healing benefits for
thousands of years.
• Its properties range from the movement of qi (the
body’s vital energy) to the reduction of pain and
inflammation.
• The application of heat to parts of the
body can increase the flow of qi and blood. Heat
lamps, heating pads, or warming liniments can
give a similar effect to moxibustion.
• However, the heat combined with the powerful
healing properties of mugwort gives moxibustion
a proven advantage.
