1. Q2 DISTRIBUTION AND AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT
ROLE OF DISTRIBUTOR: Company that handles things like marketing,
global/local cinema release and DVD printing, after the producers are
done with the film.
DIGITISATION/CONVERGENCE: Because of the internet more and
more production companies are taking some aspects of distribution
into their own hands, with things like social media. Distribution
companies are also having to adjust their strategies when it comes to
marketing.
BBFC/AGE RATINGS: There will be no violence included, only crime as
we hope to make that the main focus along with the driving in order
to get a low age rating to make the film more financially viable
MY FILM OPENING GENRE: Film is a part of the heist genre
BIG 5: Refers to the 5 companies that dominate the movie industry
(Disney, Warner Bros, Paramount, Sony Colombia and NBC
Universal). These 5 companies primarily distribute high budget
blockbusters/Tentpole films, making it unlikely that they will
distribute any indie films as they aren't made with commercial
success in mind meaning they would lose a lot of money. However
there are some exceptions like WTs Billy Elliot
SOCIAL MEDIA: We are going to create a twitter account to post any
art or behind the scenes images like another indie studio did (Warp
Films).
STUDIOCANAL: we will use StudioCanal to distribute our film
alongside our social media marketing campaign, in oreder to get a
DVD release for our film, this works as they are known to distribute
low budget indie films. They also seem to be a good choice because
of their foreign acquisitions, meaning they have access to foreign
markets.

2. LOCAL CINEMA: We will also negotiate with local cinemas to get our
film on their screens
BABY DRIVER DISTRIBUTION: our main inspiration WTs Baby driver
was distributed by Sony Columbia even though WT is owned by NBC
Universal, So its not impossible for us to get big 5 distribution. We
will apply for distribution as we believe that it could be a commercial
hit.
RISKS: we believe that StudioCanal will be willing to pick up our film
because even though it is indie it is not a social realist film, it is a
heist film and because of our audience representation (films like ours
usually do well at the box office)

- Convergence isn't enough, we still must completely rely on a

any meaningful strides (ghost stories campaign)

Thinks StudioCanal and self distribution is the way to go, not much
chance for big 5 distribution. Makes films with artistic motivation.
- Convergence will allow us some commercial success
- High chance studio canal will accept
- We should focus on small-time success with studio canal and
our own marketing
- Heist genre is good to appeal to families
- We can get some international distribution thanks to studio
canal
- Absolutely no chance for big 5 distribution
- We don’t have the budget to compare ourselves to BB Driver
- We make films for art
- We have access to government aid (grants (Screen Yorkshire,
Film 4) and the British film fund) that will provide us with
enough money to make a good film
- Film has the potential to pick up traction on its own

Moderator: So mr president... you seemed to have a problem with
how convergence has made distribution opportunities available to
the producer.
- TRUMP: well that’s an interesting question overall distribution
as we know is the marketing and promotion of a finished film,
this can mean DVD releases or negotiations with local cinemas,

4. or in the case of the Big 5 conglomerates, global distribution. I
don’t see how convergence will help with any of that...
- BIDEN: Donald I don’t think you’ve answered that very simple
question, as we know convergence is about how the
development of technology gives people access to technology
at a much cheaper price, and I think the president is wrong to
assume that things like social media, which we will utilise, has
allowed indie producers the chance to create a buzz around
their films without the help of distributors.
Moderator: Well thank you very much for your replies, another
question for you Mr President, you’ve said that the only way for any
film to find any success is to have it distributed by the big 5.... Care to
expand on that.
- TRUMP: Well yes I did actually say that, the reason is that in
2020 alone out of the top 10 HIGHEST GROSSING FILMS 9
where distributed by members of the big 5... These
conglomerates have COMPLETE control over the film industry
and it is ludicrous to suggest that your film will see an ounce of
success without them.
- BIDEN: I don’t agree with anything you said, mainly because my
main motive for making this film is artist-

- We think that our project has potential to be commercially
viable, even if we are indie producers AND even though our
main priority is to make a film with artistic merits...
- TRUMP: Then why did you say you hired StudioCanal to get a
DVD print of your film and you have expressed a desire to

Disney having 26%, Warner Bros and NBC Universal having roughly
11% and Sony Colombia having 26% with paramount having just 8%…
So how exactly are you expecting to compete with these numbers?
BIDEN: Well first of all our film has an indie budget so we don’t even
need it to be one of the top grossing films of the year to make a
profit
TRUMP: Wrong...
BIDEN: In fact the film Tyrannosaur, a british indie film got American
distribution by a small LGBT distributor
TRUMP: THEY DIDNT EVEN GIVE THAT FILM A TRAILER
BIDEN: And I have already made it clear that our film is art first a
product second
