Critical Analysis Of Pygmalion
Kate McHenry Doctor Nicole Jerr English 211– Essay #2 16 October 2017 Word Count: 1,270 Class System During 20th Century London In the story
Pygmalion, Bernard Shaw writes about a garden flower girl, Eliza, who has troubles speaking. Two scholars of dialect, Henry Higgins and Colonel
Pickering want to use phonetics to make a duchess out of Eliza by teaching her proper English. Pygmalion was written in 1912 during a time
where classes were separated and the upper class constantly looked down on the lower class. The setting of this story takes place in London,
England. During the early 20th century, England had declared war and War World I began in 1914. Pygmalion represents the British class system
along with Bernard Shaw's views of women during that time. He decided to emulate the social classes during the early 20th century England in a
very non typical way. He used characters in the play to create these stereotypical views of things such as the way women were treated and thought
of, and the lower class citizens. The play starts out in Act One with a mother and daughter waiting for their son, Freddy, to get a taxi for them to
take home. Freddy searched the area getting soaking wet in the rain for a cab which he was unsuccessful finding. When he returned, the two ladies
stood dry undercover and his sister stated, "It's too tiresome. Do you expect us to go and get one ourselves?" (10). Freddy was only asking for help

Critique Essay of Process and Learning
Out of all the projects for this course, I think the critique paper was the hardest because it challenged how I thought about scientific journals when it
came to identifying weak parts of a study and how to critique the strengths and weaknesses within those articles in a scientific manner. As a result, my
writing process was affected by this in depth look into each of the three articles I chose on stroke rehabilitation with a focus on virtual reality, and my
understanding of science writing grew with this paper.
With the critique paper, my writing process consisted of using the critique planning worksheet provided on Blackboard, and meeting with you, the
professor, outside the classroom during your office...show more content...
For the proposal between my partner, Alicia Buettner, and I, we decided to find something that related to each of our health profession majors.
Our research for the proposal revealed the importance of occupational and physical therapists working together in the field and the changing
technology in prostheses within rehabilitation treatment. With both topics in mind, we chose to have our proposal addressing the need for
occupational therapy (OT) and physical therapy (PT) students working together in a class at the University of Findlay that also focused on
prostheses. After deciding on a topic for our proposal, the next step in the writing process was following the break down for each section of the
proposal that you, the professor, provided our peers and us in the classroom. By discussing the content required for each of the sections in the
proposal and the correct formats we were to be using during class time, my partner and I were able to gain a grasp on what you were requiring
from our proposal. For example, Alicia and I spent a great deal of time looking over the notes we wrote down from the board to make sure we were
following the correct guidelines for each section. The mini assignments also helped in reassuring that Alicia and I were on the correct path for the
proposal. With each

Literary Analysis Essay On Frankenstein
This is a literary criticism on the book Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, in which the education, science, history, imagery, language, symbols, and themes
in Frankenstein will be discussed. Along with these the following paragraphs will contain personal insight on the novel and its author. While talking
about education stops will be made in large interests in the novel including the letters at the beginning of the novel. Science and history will be in the
same paragraph and will explain a few different thoughts and facts about the novel, some of them being like Victor's interest in electricity, biology, and
anatomy. In the region of imagery, language, and symbols many ideas will be talked about including description ofFrankenstein's monster and what a
couple of his features and his dialogue.
While reading this essay try to think about the amount of education that anyone would have in the 1800's most people were either self–educated, rich
and went to school, or got no education at all. For the majority of people education was out of reach and not thought about much there were a select
few (the rich and the upper class) that got to become educated. This information explains why Victor Frankenstein was so well educated coming from a
wealthy family and a highly respected one along with it. These factors led to Victor eventually creating his monster that would destroy him, his family
and everyone else that he loved. While talking of education Walton, the writer of the opening

Criticism Of My Writing Analysis
One of the keys to my success in anything I do is my ability to find positive things in things that most people see as a negative. Sickness forces me
to stop my exercise program? That's a welcome rest. Tired of my job? That's a time to rediscover what's important and to look for a better job. Super
typhoon ruined all my possessions? This allowed me to realize that my stuff wasn't important, and to be thankful that my loved ones were still alive
and safe. You can do the same thing with criticism: find the positive in it. Sure, it may be rude and mean, but in most criticism, you can find a nugget
of gold: honest feedback and a suggestion for improvement. For example, this criticism: "You write about the same things over and over and your posts

You can do this right before you receive criticism in order to prepare yourself, such as a performance evaluation with your boss. You can also use
this while you are receiving criticism, such as being disciplined by a parent, in order to help you deal with it more effectively and less defensively.
If you're able to get away from the argument for a little while, which is advisable, take that time to get your body moving. Aerobic exercise like
jogging will provide mental benefits in areas ranging from stress and anxiety to self–esteem. Boosts in these areas will help you receive criticism from
a less sensitive place. Loving kindness is a form of meditative practice that has been shown to increase positive emotions and create openness toward
other people. It's done by reciting a mantra, silently or out loud, wishing for peace and happiness, both for yourself and for other people.
Acknowledging your experience of feeling hurt is the first step toward responding more carefully and with less ego

Literary Theories And Literary Criticism
Literary theories and literary criticism New Historicism 1. It is a literary theory based on the criticism of Stephen Greenblatt and philosophy Michel
Foucault. It states that literature should be studied and interpreted in context with the author's history as well as the history of the critic. Acknowledges
that the author's literature is influenced by his/her situations or surroundings. The critic's response is also influenced by his/her surroundings, beliefs,
values and prejudices. Shows how the author's settings affected their work and how the literary work reflects on the author. Recognizes current cultural
contexts, which helps critic's to come to their conclusions about the literary work at hand. 2. Literary context/work: The Merchant of Venice. One
wanted to know if the play written by Shakespeare, was anti–Semitic. One could not simply answer yes/no. Research needed to be done and the text
needed to be studied and analysed. You needed to look into the cultural history of the play to come to a conclusion. (Study social classes; point of
view of the Jews). By studying the cultural history of the given work reveals a deeper meaning of the text as well as seeing what the history is about.

Reflection On Criticism
Criticism can be a hard thing for anyone to take. I feel that there are three things that make it hard for people; failing, open wounds, and the person
doing the criticizing. For myself, I think that rational and analytical listening are two things that I need to integrate to improve my ability to respond
more constructively to criticism. There are two strategies that I use to give criticism; straight to the point, and "good–bad–good". I believe that
criticism is hard for most people to take. I believe that there are a lot of different reasons that it's hard for people to take criticism, but there are three
that stick out to me. The first one is that when a person is trying to accomplish something that they are not good at, criticism is...show more content...
I feel that if I work on this, I will be able to understand how they feel and maybe try to help them. The second listening styles that I need to integrate
to improve my ability to respond more constructively to criticism is analytical listening. "Analytical listeners are concered about attending to the full
message before coming to judgement" (Alder, Elmhorst &Lucas, 2014, pg. 65). They want to hear all the details and analyze it. Right now when I
am getting criticism I hear what the person says and then I make my decision about how I feel about it. I do not analyze it at all, just jump to a
conclusion. Sometimes I get upset easily, and I feel if I would think more into a situation before I just get mad, I might find that its not worth getting
upset about. I believe this can help me become more level–headed. I use two different strategies to give criticisms depending on the situation. When it
is something quick and I feel that I can correct it on the spot without making a scene or making the person feel bad about themselves, I just say it in
a respectful manner. I try to do it as soon as the incident happens, but not in front of others. An example of this is when one of the people on my
shift showed up late to work two days in a row, I walked up to her when she walked in to work alone, greeted her, then told her that she needed to try
to show up to work on time. She said okay and we went on with our day like nothing happened. I believe that doing it this way allows

Essay about Psychoanalytic Literary Criticism
I strongly believe that every person who reads a book, listens to the radio, or watches a
program on television will make their own assumptions. I know I do. Most of us will ask, "Why
did the main character make that decision?" Or "What were they thinking?" Could it be that the
author of the story is protruding their own subconscious thoughts and beliefs through their
characters? Absolutely, most critics have adapted psychoanalytic literary criticism theory based
upon the works of psychoanalysis by famous psychologists Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, and
Jacques Lacan to literary works. 'Psychoanalytic literary criticism does not constitute a unified

first discover the meaning and content of what is represented in his work; I must, in other words,

when her aunt, the woman who taught her everything she knows about her profession explained her own past when the man she loved left her for

of her unwedded wet nurse who gives birth in her home.
The vision of the child who is wrapped in newspaper by the doctor drives her to obsess about the child's future. And lastly, "The Necklace" written by

what she thinks is an expensive necklace.
Soon after leaving the ball she discovers she loses the necklace. Thus, begins a ten year struggle to replace the item.

of an author's own psyche. The theory is used to analyze the

Criticism By Matthew Arnold Summary
Known as the " first modern critic ", the Victorian poet Matthew Arnold could also be called " the critic's critic " as he was a person who touched
the zenith not only of great poetry but also ofliterary criticism to a great extent. His career as a literary critic began with his writing " Preface to the
Poems", published in 1853. Great critics such as T.S Eliot, F.R in order to and Allen Tate were highly influenced by Arnold. He brought into use his
touchstone method in criticism. Through this method Arnold familiarized scientific objectivity in literary criticism, and for this he specified
comparison and analysis to be the two principal apparatusesof criticism. Moreover it was he who founded the sociological school of criticism.
In his pioneering essay titled " The Function of Criticism at the Present Time" published in 1865 in his first compilation of critical texts "Essays in
Criticism", Arnold examines the notion of criticism in detail. It is believed he propounded his theory of literary criticism on the basis of his study of
the Greek classics. In this particular essay, he puts forward an expanded proposition of criticism and its necessity in the present times. According to
him, criticism as an endeavor has made its way into different literatures, as that of France, Germany and more significantly of Europe. And in each
literature, criticism has been the main effort in all branches of study including theology, history, philosophy and art,the main purpose of criticizing
being "to see theobject as in itself if really is".This very explanation adjudicates criticism a crucial necessity for creative facultyin the abovementioned
areas. To this he further adds that false and biased criticism must never been put into use.In Arnold's words, cited from " The Function of Criticism at
the Present Time" criticism should be " a disinterested endeavor to learn and propagate the best that is known and thought in the world". In the quest of
bringing out the best, the critic must think as inappropriate such aspects as the historical, psychological and sociological background. Moreover, Arnold
draws a distinct comparison between the two great literary men namely Goethe and Byron, of which Goethe had a firm hand in

Critical Criticism Of Realism
The second major criticism is that mainstream IR fails to account for change. Often times, this change in understood in the context of large–scale
transformation. This transformation primarily refers to the structuring of the international system. Many Critical Theorists believe that the discipline as
a whole fails to account for the possibility of major change within the international system (Hiene, 403). For Realism in particular, this criticism is
primarily focused on its state–centric approach. One of Realism's main assertions is that the states are best unit of analysis (John, 132). Critical
Theorists believe that in the context of Globalization, this view is "increasingly problematic" (Beck, 463). According to Ulrich Beck, the "mistakes of
the national perspective are recognizable to the extent that boundaries have become permeable and interdependences, which transcend all borders, are
growing exponentially" (463). Realists continue to analyze (only) the State, despite mounting evidence that the state may not always be the most
influential actor. By focusing so much on the Nation–state, and discounting the role of Globalization, Realism fails to account for large–scale
transformation. In other words, Realism "is a kind of political irrealism because it neglects the possibility and reality of a second 'Great
Transformation' of the global power game" (Beck 457). It believes that the world will stay as it currently is forever. The criticism surrounding

The School Voucher program was designed to give families a choice about where their children could go to school. The program offered a fixed
dollar amount each year to put toward a child's tuition. Their choices ranged from private or parochial schools, these are schools that many of these
children may not experience otherwise. Charter schools were also options because they are run much like private schools. The thought behind voucher
programs is that a sense of competition would be created. The hope is that a higher educational output and an improved level of education would be
provided. Proponents of the program believe that children from poor public school districts should have the same opportunity for quality education as

Although, the system would help some students they would not help them all, vouchers are offered in limited numbers. As each state works through
this political quagmire, the debate continues.
School vouchers are not the savior to public education that they set out to be, as long as the vouchers are not offered to everyone equally. Funding to
public education continues to be under siege so allocating funding toward a voucher program that everyone can not access may not be the best use of
these dollars. The assumption that a sense of competition may develop among schools for the best and the brightest may be true but what about
schools that can not compete. What happens to the children that will be left behind? Is the federal government prepared to improve public schools that
are suffering from lack of funds? "School voucher programs undermine two great American traditions: universal public education and the separation of
church and state" (Anti–Defamation League, 2005).
While researching the voucher system this writer found that there are several factors to take into consideration such as: is the use of funds for the
voucher program the best use of educational funds, what happens to the kids left behind in the public schools who do not get a voucher or can not
afford to take advantage of the option,

Introduction Corruption is the use of entrusted authority for private gain. Corruption has two sides, the receiver and the giver. According to Myint
(2000), both parties to corruption engage in the practice to gain from it and, therefore, both should be accounted for the practice. Corruption is vital

No society has corruption generic to each member of the society. Corruption in a society is classified into three categories; it may be rare,
widespread or systemic. In communities where corruption is rare, there are remarkably few incidences of it, which are usually, extremely difficult to
identify. When it is widespread, it means that it occurs in large numbers, in the society, scandals abound in the society, and it is possible to identify the
corrupt individuals in the society. If it is systemic, it means that it is inherent, for members of the society to receive certain services have to bribe the
officials. Corruption as a cultural tradition does not suits only a few members of the society who practice it. When a government is termed as corrupt,
this does not mean that all the officials in the government are corrupt, it is only some unscrupulous officials who are scandalous and painted an image
that the government is corrupt and tainted its image. The same applies to culture as a determinant of the level of corruption in a society. When a certain
community is termed to have a culture of corruption, such a postulation does not go to the finer details of the society to analyze its individual
constituents. When a proper analysis of the mistaken corrupt culture in a society, it

Criticism
Criticism can be negative or positive; the way it is said may be good or bad. Why do most of us want to avoid giving or receiving criticism? The
purpose of criticism is to encourage positive outcomes (what the giver wants). Ideally, it brings balance into our lives, provides us with a basis of
comparison, and brings truth, honesty, and intimacy. Hopefully, it gives us honest feedback–a balance of praise and criticism. Do most of us want to
know how we are doing?

caught off guard. Need to learn to take criticism on the job professionally, and emotion (breathe deeply and slowly). Try to remain impartial. Ask
yourself is the criticism is valid. What can we learn?
Other factors that color criticism: 1) relationship with the giver of criticism (friends give advice). Why do we resent criticism from in–laws, parents
and spouses more than bosses do? 2) Choice of words–how it is given. "I can't believe you would do such a stupid thing." What words make you angry,
loud, etc? 3) Style of delivery, sacristy, fast and angry, loud, etc. 4) Timing, and public or private. 5) Other types: beyond your control, aimed at your
gender, size, heritage, appearance, etc
QUESTIONS: How good are you at staying cool under criticism? (Knots in stomach, anger, etc). How well do you listen when you are criticized?
(Rephrase so that you really understand what he/she is saying). How effectively can you organize your thoughts to answer (if you think you should)?
How well do we put the criticism in perspective (not life threatening)? Do we brood on it for weeks, months?

A Feminist Perspective of The Lady of Shalott
In an essay on feminist criticism, Linda Peterson of Yale University explains how literature can "reflect and shape the attitudes that have held women
back" (330). From the viewpoint of a feminist critic, "The Lady of Shalott" provides its reader with an analysis of the Victorian woman's conflict
between her place in the interior, domestic role of society and her desire to break into the exterior, public sphere which generally had been the domain
of men. Read as a commentary on women's roles in Victorian society, "The Lady of Shalott" may be interpreted in different ways. Thus, the speaker's
commentary is ambiguous: Does he seek to reinforce the institution of patriarchal society...show more content...
Quite simply, a woman's place was in the home. According to Deborah Gorham, in The Victorian Girl and the Feminine Ideal, "women were told they
must remain within the domestic sphere both because their duties were to be performed there, and because contact with the wider world would damage
their ability to perform those duties" (6).
To many women of the time, this expectation of domesticity made for a very boring life ("Woman Question" 1596). As Harriet Martineau commented,
"young ladies ... were expected to sit down in the parlour to sew, –– during which reading aloud was permitted, –– or to practice their music" (1601). A
contemporary of Martineau, Dinah Maria Mulock, made a biting critique of the social expectation in her essay on women. She wrote that despite being
furnished with all the domestic comforts money could buy, well–bred young ladies were given "no solid food whatever to satisfy the mind and heart ...
they literally had nothing to do" (1604).
Tennyson opens "The Lady of Shalott" by describing the disparities between the traditionally feminine, interior world of Shalott and the more
masculine, exterior world of Camelot. In stanzas one and two, he paints a picture of Camelot as a pastoral setting in which there are long fields of
barley and rye (line 2), whitening willows, and quivering aspens (10). Camelot is a place of many towers (5), and

Criticism Of Literary Criticism
I'm writing this letter to show criticism analysis in text so as to employ the principles of rhetoric which brings about the involvement of the author,
content and the audience. The requirement for rhetorical analysis will involve the plans that the author used to achieve the goal or purpose in writing.
Analysis involves the studying of something difficult in order to know its nature or the features in it. The study helps in providing some essential
information for problem solving and making the right decisions. The requirement in rhetorical analysis is that one needs to do critical reading so as to
break down text from the main piece for analyzing(Barker, 2017).
The writing process was by inspired by the Rowling's thoughts of the intuitive approach in the plot development and the ability to tell the narrative.
Rowling's plans for the learning magic serves as a major role in the society of the wizard world. The text credibility was based on strict rules that
governed the logics in the plot. The compelling cast of the characters was life in her thoughts since she never failed in her imagination of the story she
was meant to write. The text may not be showing everything but there is some confidence that the author really knows everything. The need to target
specific audience is necessary for marketing purposes. A strategy for targeting audience is by identifying the lucrative audience and finding ways to
access and influence it. My strategy would be teaching and media

Introduction
The first thing to start with is the title. In order to understand Arnold's essay we should first understand the title of the essay. As we notice that Matthew
Arnold associates criticism with one function not many functions, but which function? He also mentions that this function of criticism is limited within
a specific and particular time which is the present time and the past or the future time. Therefore, answering the questions of function and time of
criticism goes with analyzing Matthew Arnold's essay through my reading of his essay. It becomes clear that Arnold defends the importance of
criticism. That's to say he tries to display that the critical mind is of a paramount importance as well as the creative mind.
A...show more content...
The creative mind was considered as the peak of creativity and inspiration whereas the critical mind was considered of less importance. William
Wordsworth, the most famous opponent of the critical mind considers criticism as a waste of time. He was one of those who criticized Arnold Matthew
because he gives much importance to the critical effort over the creative effort. Wordsworth states that critics would be employed in original
composition his reasoning behind this statement is injury to the mind of others. That criticism can cause in contrast to the harmlessness of prose or
verse. As a reaction against Wordsworth, Matthew Arnold questions whether criticism in injurious to minds. For Arnold Matthew, Wordsworth
judgment on criticism has a sense of exaggeration and this is due to the severe criticism which was received by Wordsworth from critics.
More importantly, Arnold tries to refute theidea that the critical power is of lower importance than the creative power. Both creative power and critical
power are complementary and of equal importance, because man finds his true happiness within the creative process, however this creative process can
not be limited to great works of literature. Well–doing, learning or even criticizing according to Arnold can be a creative project that they can be just
as fulfilling as great works of literature, and then criticism can be one of those fields in which one can experience happiness far from Wordsworth.

4.5. Canonical criticism:
Canonical criticism is an interpretative strategy that focuses on reading the final form of the biblical text in relation to its context in the biblical canon,
constitutes one of the major critical methodologies that has challenged the predominance of historically based or diachronic biblical exegesis in the
latter portion of the twentieth century.
This method examines the unique literary features and the social function of the genre, canon, paying particular attention to the way in which once
historically conditioned literature is given a new authoritative function as the comprehensive word of God to later communities of faith.

The exegete allows the text to speak on the life experience of the oppressed. The second feature is, the marginalised communities themselves to know
the stories and claims of the biblical text. They interpret the text themselves on their own life situations. The third feature is the reliability. The Bible
could be read as a guide to the practical problems with which people live their own lives.
There are three criteria for liberation exegesis. They are pretext, context and text. The pretext is the actual life situation out of which the community
interprets the Bible on their situation basis. The context is the faith of the community. The shared experience of particular community of believers
should be expressed. The text is the biblical word. It is a kind of reading the text. In the Liberative readings, the exegete is connecting the text with the
hearer's life situation. And, the interpretation explores the message of the text and it stimulates the hearers to work according to it. The function of this
interpretive method leads the people towards liberation and redemption in the oppressed society and religions too.

Literary Criticism In Poetry
Formalist criticism is the literary theory that takes a look into works of literature for the message and meaning, but gives a special focus on the form
and structure, as well as the literary devices it utilizes. This form of criticism is has a very straightforward approach, breaking down the text into
different component parts. Imagery, language, point of view, structure, motivation are all elements this group examines when reading the text. The
thing that differs this approach from other literary schools of criticism, is its focus on the internal components, instead of the outside influences. The
critic must pay no attention the authors intent and read the text with a neutral or unemotionally. The reader is interesting in determining who the
protagonist is, the protagonist's conflicts, the climax, setting, and theme of the literary works. This essay will discuss three poems "Wild Iris", "Lady
Lazarus", and "Aunt Jennifer's Tigers" and apply the Formalist literary criticism towards each of the poem's text. "Wild Iris" is a poem by Louise
GlГјck, that doesn't display its meaning clearly and makes the reader work to find answers and understand the message of the poem. The part I
noticed first was that the protagonist and speaker of the poem was the flower itself. As said in an article written by The Editors of Encyclopædia
Britannica, personification is, "a type of metaphor and a common literary tool. It is when you assign the qualities of a person to something that isn't

Critical Analysis Of Pygmalion

  • 1. Critical Analysis Of Pygmalion Kate McHenry Doctor Nicole Jerr English 211– Essay #2 16 October 2017 Word Count: 1,270 Class System During 20th Century London In the story Pygmalion, Bernard Shaw writes about a garden flower girl, Eliza, who has troubles speaking. Two scholars of dialect, Henry Higgins and Colonel Pickering want to use phonetics to make a duchess out of Eliza by teaching her proper English. Pygmalion was written in 1912 during a time where classes were separated and the upper class constantly looked down on the lower class. The setting of this story takes place in London, England. During the early 20th century, England had declared war and War World I began in 1914. Pygmalion represents the British class system along with Bernard Shaw's views of women during that time. He decided to emulate the social classes during the early 20th century England in a very non typical way. He used characters in the play to create these stereotypical views of things such as the way women were treated and thought of, and the lower class citizens. The play starts out in Act One with a mother and daughter waiting for their son, Freddy, to get a taxi for them to take home. Freddy searched the area getting soaking wet in the rain for a cab which he was unsuccessful finding. When he returned, the two ladies stood dry undercover and his sister stated, "It's too tiresome. Do you expect us to go and get one ourselves?" (10). Freddy was only asking for help looking for a taxi because he had been out in the rain Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Critique Essay Examples Critique Essay of Process and Learning Out of all the projects for this course, I think the critique paper was the hardest because it challenged how I thought about scientific journals when it came to identifying weak parts of a study and how to critique the strengths and weaknesses within those articles in a scientific manner. As a result, my writing process was affected by this in depth look into each of the three articles I chose on stroke rehabilitation with a focus on virtual reality, and my understanding of science writing grew with this paper. With the critique paper, my writing process consisted of using the critique planning worksheet provided on Blackboard, and meeting with you, the professor, outside the classroom during your office...show more content... For the proposal between my partner, Alicia Buettner, and I, we decided to find something that related to each of our health profession majors. Our research for the proposal revealed the importance of occupational and physical therapists working together in the field and the changing technology in prostheses within rehabilitation treatment. With both topics in mind, we chose to have our proposal addressing the need for occupational therapy (OT) and physical therapy (PT) students working together in a class at the University of Findlay that also focused on prostheses. After deciding on a topic for our proposal, the next step in the writing process was following the break down for each section of the proposal that you, the professor, provided our peers and us in the classroom. By discussing the content required for each of the sections in the proposal and the correct formats we were to be using during class time, my partner and I were able to gain a grasp on what you were requiring from our proposal. For example, Alicia and I spent a great deal of time looking over the notes we wrote down from the board to make sure we were following the correct guidelines for each section. The mini assignments also helped in reassuring that Alicia and I were on the correct path for the proposal. With each Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Literary Analysis Essay On Frankenstein This is a literary criticism on the book Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, in which the education, science, history, imagery, language, symbols, and themes in Frankenstein will be discussed. Along with these the following paragraphs will contain personal insight on the novel and its author. While talking about education stops will be made in large interests in the novel including the letters at the beginning of the novel. Science and history will be in the same paragraph and will explain a few different thoughts and facts about the novel, some of them being like Victor's interest in electricity, biology, and anatomy. In the region of imagery, language, and symbols many ideas will be talked about including description ofFrankenstein's monster and what a couple of his features and his dialogue. While reading this essay try to think about the amount of education that anyone would have in the 1800's most people were either self–educated, rich and went to school, or got no education at all. For the majority of people education was out of reach and not thought about much there were a select few (the rich and the upper class) that got to become educated. This information explains why Victor Frankenstein was so well educated coming from a wealthy family and a highly respected one along with it. These factors led to Victor eventually creating his monster that would destroy him, his family and everyone else that he loved. • 4. Criticism Of My Writing Analysis One of the keys to my success in anything I do is my ability to find positive things in things that most people see as a negative. Sickness forces me to stop my exercise program? That's a welcome rest. Tired of my job? That's a time to rediscover what's important and to look for a better job. Super typhoon ruined all my possessions? This allowed me to realize that my stuff wasn't important, and to be thankful that my loved ones were still alive and safe. You can do the same thing with criticism: find the positive in it. Sure, it may be rude and mean, but in most criticism, you can find a nugget of gold: honest feedback and a suggestion for improvement. For example, this criticism: "You write about the same things over and over and your posts ...show more content... You can do this right before you receive criticism in order to prepare yourself, such as a performance evaluation with your boss. You can also use this while you are receiving criticism, such as being disciplined by a parent, in order to help you deal with it more effectively and less defensively. If you're able to get away from the argument for a little while, which is advisable, take that time to get your body moving. Aerobic exercise like jogging will provide mental benefits in areas ranging from stress and anxiety to self–esteem. Boosts in these areas will help you receive criticism from a less sensitive place. Loving kindness is a form of meditative practice that has been shown to increase positive emotions and create openness toward other people. It's done by reciting a mantra, silently or out loud, wishing for peace and happiness, both for yourself and for other people. Acknowledging your experience of feeling hurt is the first step toward responding more carefully and with less ego Get more content on HelpWriting.net

It is a literary theory based on the criticism of Stephen Greenblatt and philosophy Michel Foucault. It states that literature should be studied and interpreted in context with the author's history as well as the history of the critic. Acknowledges that the author's literature is influenced by his/her situations or surroundings. The critic's response is also influenced by his/her surroundings, beliefs, values and prejudices. Shows how the author's settings affected their work and how the literary work reflects on the author. Recognizes current cultural contexts, which helps critic's to come to their conclusions about the literary work at hand. 2. Literary context/work: The Merchant of Venice. One wanted to know if the play written by Shakespeare, was anti–Semitic. One could not simply answer yes/no. Research needed to be done and the text needed to be studied and analysed. You needed to look into the cultural history of the play to come to a conclusion. (Study social classes; point of view of the Jews). By studying the cultural history of the given work reveals a deeper meaning of the text as well as seeing what the history is about. Post–colonialism – "the extension of civilization" 1. • 6. Reflection On Criticism Criticism can be a hard thing for anyone to take. I feel that there are three things that make it hard for people; failing, open wounds, and the person doing the criticizing. For myself, I think that rational and analytical listening are two things that I need to integrate to improve my ability to respond more constructively to criticism. There are two strategies that I use to give criticism; straight to the point, and "good–bad–good". I believe that criticism is hard for most people to take. I believe that there are a lot of different reasons that it's hard for people to take criticism, but there are three that stick out to me. The first one is that when a person is trying to accomplish something that they are not good at, criticism is...show more content... I feel that if I work on this, I will be able to understand how they feel and maybe try to help them. The second listening styles that I need to integrate to improve my ability to respond more constructively to criticism is analytical listening. "Analytical listeners are concered about attending to the full message before coming to judgement" (Alder, Elmhorst &Lucas, 2014, pg. 65). They want to hear all the details and analyze it. Right now when I am getting criticism I hear what the person says and then I make my decision about how I feel about it. I do not analyze it at all, just jump to a conclusion. Sometimes I get upset easily, and I feel if I would think more into a situation before I just get mad, I might find that its not worth getting upset about. I believe this can help me become more level–headed. I use two different strategies to give criticisms depending on the situation. When it is something quick and I feel that I can correct it on the spot without making a scene or making the person feel bad about themselves, I just say it in a respectful manner. I try to do it as soon as the incident happens, but not in front of others. An example of this is when one of the people on my shift showed up late to work two days in a row, I walked up to her when she walked in to work alone, greeted her, then told her that she needed to try to show up to work on time. She said okay and we went on with our day like nothing happened. I believe that doing it this way allows Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Essay about Psychoanalytic Literary Criticism I strongly believe that every person who reads a book, listens to the radio, or watches a program on television will make their own assumptions. I know I do. Most of us will ask, "Why did the main character make that decision?" Or "What were they thinking?" Could it be that the author of the story is protruding their own subconscious thoughts and beliefs through their characters? Absolutely, most critics have adapted psychoanalytic literary criticism theory based upon the works of psychoanalysis by famous psychologists Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, and Jacques Lacan to literary works. • 9. Criticism By Matthew Arnold Summary Known as the " first modern critic ", the Victorian poet Matthew Arnold could also be called " the critic's critic " as he was a person who touched the zenith not only of great poetry but also ofliterary criticism to a great extent. His career as a literary critic began with his writing " Preface to the Poems", published in 1853. Great critics such as T.S Eliot, F.R in order to and Allen Tate were highly influenced by Arnold. He brought into use his touchstone method in criticism. Through this method Arnold familiarized scientific objectivity in literary criticism, and for this he specified comparison and analysis to be the two principal apparatusesof criticism. Moreover it was he who founded the sociological school of criticism. In his pioneering essay titled " The Function of Criticism at the Present Time" published in 1865 in his first compilation of critical texts "Essays in Criticism", Arnold examines the notion of criticism in detail. It is believed he propounded his theory of literary criticism on the basis of his study of the Greek classics. In this particular essay, he puts forward an expanded proposition of criticism and its necessity in the present times. According to him, criticism as an endeavor has made its way into different literatures, as that of France, Germany and more significantly of Europe. And in each literature, criticism has been the main effort in all branches of study including theology, history, philosophy and art,the main purpose of criticizing being "to see theobject as in itself if really is".This very explanation adjudicates criticism a crucial necessity for creative facultyin the abovementioned areas. To this he further adds that false and biased criticism must never been put into use.In Arnold's words, cited from " The Function of Criticism at the Present Time" criticism should be " a disinterested endeavor to learn and propagate the best that is known and thought in the world". In the quest of bringing out the best, the critic must think as inappropriate such aspects as the historical, psychological and sociological background. Moreover, Arnold draws a distinct comparison between the two great literary men namely Goethe and Byron, of which Goethe had a firm hand in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Critical Criticism Of Realism The second major criticism is that mainstream IR fails to account for change. Often times, this change in understood in the context of large–scale transformation. This transformation primarily refers to the structuring of the international system. Many Critical Theorists believe that the discipline as a whole fails to account for the possibility of major change within the international system (Hiene, 403). For Realism in particular, this criticism is primarily focused on its state–centric approach. One of Realism's main assertions is that the states are best unit of analysis (John, 132). Critical Theorists believe that in the context of Globalization, this view is "increasingly problematic" (Beck, 463). According to Ulrich Beck, the "mistakes of the national perspective are recognizable to the extent that boundaries have become permeable and interdependences, which transcend all borders, are growing exponentially" (463). Realists continue to analyze (only) the State, despite mounting evidence that the state may not always be the most influential actor. By focusing so much on the Nation–state, and discounting the role of Globalization, Realism fails to account for large–scale transformation. In other words, Realism "is a kind of political irrealism because it neglects the possibility and reality of a second 'Great Transformation' of the global power game" (Beck 457). It believes that the world will stay as it currently is forever. The criticism surrounding large–scale Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The program offered a fixed dollar amount each year to put toward a child's tuition. Their choices ranged from private or parochial schools, these are schools that many of these children may not experience otherwise. Charter schools were also options because they are run much like private schools. The thought behind voucher programs is that a sense of competition would be created. Although, the system would help some students they would not help them all, vouchers are offered in limited numbers. As each state works through this political quagmire, the debate continues. School vouchers are not the savior to public education that they set out to be, as long as the vouchers are not offered to everyone equally. Funding to public education continues to be under siege so allocating funding toward a voucher program that everyone can not access may not be the best use of these dollars. The assumption that a sense of competition may develop among schools for the best and the brightest may be true but what about schools that can not compete. What happens to the children that will be left behind? Is the federal government prepared to improve public schools that are suffering from lack of funds? "School voucher programs undermine two great American traditions: universal public education and the separation of church and state" (Anti–Defamation League, 2005). While researching the voucher system this writer found that there are several factors to take into consideration such as: is the use of funds for the voucher program the best use of educational funds, what happens to the kids left behind in the public schools who do not get a voucher or can not afford to take advantage of the option, Get more content on HelpWriting.net

(Ret) Kaplan University Online CJ340–02: Applied Criminal Justice Ethics Professor Kevin Stoehr 17 July 2012 Introduction Corruption is the use of entrusted authority for private gain. Corruption has two sides, the receiver and the giver. According to Myint (2000), both parties to corruption engage in the practice to gain from it and, therefore, both should be accounted for the practice. Corruption is vital barrier to the development of a country. The World Bank has identified it as the main stumbling block to developing countries to their development endeavors. Corruption in a society is classified into three categories; it may be rare, widespread or systemic. In communities where corruption is rare, there are remarkably few incidences of it, which are usually, extremely difficult to identify. When it is widespread, it means that it occurs in large numbers, in the society, scandals abound in the society, and it is possible to identify the corrupt individuals in the society. If it is systemic, it means that it is inherent, for members of the society to receive certain services have to bribe the officials. Corruption as a cultural tradition does not suits only a few members of the society who practice it. When a government is termed as corrupt, this does not mean that all the officials in the government are corrupt, it is only some unscrupulous officials who are scandalous and painted an image that the government is corrupt and tainted its image. The same applies to culture as a determinant of the level of corruption in a society. When a certain community is termed to have a culture of corruption, such a postulation does not go to the finer details of the society to analyze its individual constituents. When a proper analysis of the mistaken corrupt culture in a society, it

The purpose of criticism is to encourage positive outcomes (what the giver wants). • 15. A Feminist Perspective of The Lady of Shalott In an essay on feminist criticism, Linda Peterson of Yale University explains how literature can "reflect and shape the attitudes that have held women back" (330). From the viewpoint of a feminist critic, "The Lady of Shalott" provides its reader with an analysis of the Victorian woman's conflict between her place in the interior, domestic role of society and her desire to break into the exterior, public sphere which generally had been the domain of men. Read as a commentary on women's roles in Victorian society, "The Lady of Shalott" may be interpreted in different ways. Thus, the speaker's commentary is ambiguous: Does he seek to reinforce the institution of patriarchal society...show more content... Quite simply, a woman's place was in the home. According to Deborah Gorham, in The Victorian Girl and the Feminine Ideal, "women were told they must remain within the domestic sphere both because their duties were to be performed there, and because contact with the wider world would damage their ability to perform those duties" (6). To many women of the time, this expectation of domesticity made for a very boring life ("Woman Question" 1596). As Harriet Martineau commented, "young ladies ... were expected to sit down in the parlour to sew, –– during which reading aloud was permitted, –– or to practice their music" (1601). A contemporary of Martineau, Dinah Maria Mulock, made a biting critique of the social expectation in her essay on women. She wrote that despite being furnished with all the domestic comforts money could buy, well–bred young ladies were given "no solid food whatever to satisfy the mind and heart ... they literally had nothing to do" (1604). Tennyson opens "The Lady of Shalott" by describing the disparities between the traditionally feminine, interior world of Shalott and the more masculine, exterior world of Camelot. In stanzas one and two, he paints a picture of Camelot as a pastoral setting in which there are long fields of barley and rye (line 2), whitening willows, and quivering aspens (10). • 16. Criticism Of Literary Criticism I'm writing this letter to show criticism analysis in text so as to employ the principles of rhetoric which brings about the involvement of the author, content and the audience. The requirement for rhetorical analysis will involve the plans that the author used to achieve the goal or purpose in writing. Analysis involves the studying of something difficult in order to know its nature or the features in it. The study helps in providing some essential information for problem solving and making the right decisions. The requirement in rhetorical analysis is that one needs to do critical reading so as to break down text from the main piece for analyzing(Barker, 2017). The writing process was by inspired by the Rowling's thoughts of the intuitive approach in the plot development and the ability to tell the narrative. Rowling's plans for the learning magic serves as a major role in the society of the wizard world. The text credibility was based on strict rules that governed the logics in the plot. The compelling cast of the characters was life in her thoughts since she never failed in her imagination of the story she was meant to write. The text may not be showing everything but there is some confidence that the author really knows everything. The need to target specific audience is necessary for marketing purposes. A strategy for targeting audience is by identifying the lucrative audience and finding ways to access and influence it. My strategy would be teaching and media Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Introduction The first thing to start with is the title. In order to understand Arnold's essay we should first understand the title of the essay. As we notice that Matthew Arnold associates criticism with one function not many functions, but which function? He also mentions that this function of criticism is limited within a specific and particular time which is the present time and the past or the future time. Therefore, answering the questions of function and time of criticism goes with analyzing Matthew Arnold's essay through my reading of his essay. It becomes clear that Arnold defends the importance of criticism. That's to say he tries to display that the critical mind is of a paramount importance as well as the creative mind. Wordsworth states that critics would be employed in original composition his reasoning behind this statement is injury to the mind of others. That criticism can cause in contrast to the harmlessness of prose or verse. As a reaction against Wordsworth, Matthew Arnold questions whether criticism in injurious to minds. For Arnold Matthew, Wordsworth judgment on criticism has a sense of exaggeration and this is due to the severe criticism which was received by Wordsworth from critics. More importantly, Arnold tries to refute theidea that the critical power is of lower importance than the creative power. Both creative power and critical power are complementary and of equal importance, because man finds his true happiness within the creative process, however this creative process can not be limited to great works of literature. Well–doing, learning or even criticizing according to Arnold can be a creative project that they can be just as fulfilling as great works of literature, and then criticism can be one of those fields in which one can experience happiness far from Wordsworth.
