Cinema Audiences
Cinema on demand – direct rent to theatres, RAIN networks in Brazil.
Small independent films create a group of people to view the film, at which point the
theatre downloads the movie and shows it to the audience that demanded.
Old world- trailer, billboards, TV spot, hope audience turn up
New world- Viral, trailer, social networking, word of mouth, know there turning up
Old market: Push; Hook and sell; I said so; celebrity; text, print and email; community.
New marketing: Pull; sample; prove it; everyday spokesperson; video; connections.
Old market
Push their ideas on people and hope they turn up, by hooking them into it, by showing
trailers and sending out reviews making them look really good, ‘5star must see film’.
Critics comment on the film, giving it a good review, to boost publicity. They get celebrities
to endorse the film, giving it good publicity. Use billboards used to advertise in highly
populated areas, advertising to large amounts of people.
New market
Pull audience in by giving them a sample of the film that makes them want to see more.
Viewers don’t believe the positive things that are said about films and want them to prove
it with good trailers and samples. There is always somewhere that you can get information
about the film, such as online reviews, or watch the trailer online. People these days
prefer visual things, so they want to watch videos about the film rather than read about it.
Everything can be instantly shared through social media, such as twitter and Facebook, so
people can even come across the film by accident.
