2. Posters
• Current superhero marketing trend
is to include a lot of heroes into the
poster, WW didn’t follow that.
• This movie has Chris Pike in it, who
is much more famous for his
performance in Star Trek, however
he is not included in a single poster.
3. Marketing
• Wonder Woman had a bigger marketing budget than Suicide Squat, however not
a lot of people had reported seeing it. That is because Warner Brothers tried a
new strategy, they have targeted people who are not likely to see this film with
those ads. For example, WW ads haven’t been placed on DC fan blogs, as they
are already going to see the film. But they have placed those ads on places,
where people might know about that film and might want to see it.
4. Twitter
• Not considering an official movie
twitter account, Ga Gadot published
exclusive videos showing behind the
scenes and how certain props were
made. Here she is with the boots
5. Snapchat
• Five days before the movies premiered,
WB had an exclusive minigame and filters
in Snapchat with the Wonder Woman
watermark. Using Snapchat for
advertising targets a younger audience.
6. Facebook
• Gal Gadot showed off a VR tiara, which is supposed to stick to your head and
look cool, but then she received a huge amount of criticism, as that tiara wasn’t
there.
7. A hiccup in marketing
• A week before the release of the movie, Lebanese government banned the movie
from showing there, as Gal Gadot has a Jewish heritage. This got quite a bit of
attention, so the marketing was negatively affected
8. Marketing Strategy
• Forbes reported that WB tried “Leave them wanting for more” strategy in trailers
and posters, after fans complained they spoiled the plot of Batman Vs Superman
a few years before.
9. Controversial merch
• Wonder Woman partnered up with ThinkThin, a
company producing diet and sports food.
• Wonder Woman air fresheners
• WW Hot Topic fragrance
• Wonder Woman Nascar car miniature model
• WW Makeup
10. Good merch
• A pretty good looking bomber jacket
• A letter opener copy of the iconic sword
• A set of fully metal armour
11. Premiere
• Wonder Woman premiered in
Shanghai on May 15, 2017.
American release was on June 2nd
