This presentation discusses the growth in the number of devices connected to the internet (IoT - Internet of Things) versus the growth of the population in the world. It also compares the growth trend of connected devices versus population.

2. MORE CONNECTED DEVICES THAN PEOPLE
§ The Internet is growing at explosive rates
§ In 1992 there were one million computers connected to the Internet
§ The Inception of the IoT (Internet of Things) happened in 2009
§ Today (2015) there are more than 18 billion devices connected to the
Internet: 18 thousand times more connections versus 1992
§ According to the U. S. Census Bureau, the population of the world in 2015 is
7.2 billion people
§ Comparing connected devices with the total population numbers, we can
easily see that today there are more connected devices than human beings in
the world
§ In 2015, for each person living on this planet there are 2.5 devices connected
to the Internet

3. 2020: 50 BILLION CONNECTED DEVICES
§ By 2020
- The number of devices connected to the Internet is expected to grow 178%,
exceeding 50 billion
- And the population of the world is projected to grow 4%, exceeding 7.5
billion
- Comparing the numbers above, we can estimate that there will be 6.6
connected devices for each person living in this world, a 164% increase
versus 2015
