Governance
Objectives: At the end of the period the learners should be able to:
1. Identify the types of power, they observe in their houses and in the
community.
2. Describe the situation in their locality where official applied their
power.
3. Evaluate the different uses of the different types of power.
Motivation: 4 PICS one word
Identify the word that implies in the picture.
POWER
The Different types of power
Activity
What to do: A ball shall be passed while the music is played. When
the music stops, the students who hold the ball shall give his/her
insight about the power observe at home and in the community they
belong.
ANALYSIS: Video Clip presentation
The teacher will portray a video clip presentation and let the learners
identify what types of power that the image is being shown.
Choices:
1. Coercive power
2. Reward power
3. Legitimate power
4. Expert power
5. Referent power

ABSTRACTION
Coercive power
This type of power is based on the idea of
compulsion. It means that someone is
force to do something against their will.
The target person complies in order to
avoid punishment.
Reward Power
A person who are in power gives reward.
This reward may be in a form of promotion,
added benefits, salary increase, training
opportunities, or compliments. This form of
power is based on the thought that people
are inclined to do things well when they get
something in return.
Legitimate Power
This type of power gives the elected,
selected or appointed position of authority
the ability to administer the other people a
certain feeling of obligation or notion of
responsibility. The target person complies
because he/she believes that the agent has right
to make the request
Expert Power
This type of power is based on special skills
or knowledge. The fact is that is someone
has a certain expertise in the fields or
organization they can often persuade people
who trust them. The target person complies
because she/he believes that agent has
especial knowledge about his expertise.
Referent Power
Leaders in this form of power are often
seen as role models and their power are
often treated with admiration or charm.
They are highly like and people identify
strongly with them in some way.
APPLICATION
What to do: Group Activity: The learners
will paste an image or an illustration
representing an application of power in
the community , in a nation or a world
as a whole and explain at least 5
sentences regarding the picture/s they
presented.
