1. Its been 1 week, 3 days and roughly 6 hours since I last saw them two, what with the
Christmas holidays. My Christmases have been the same old lonely days since Martha
died in 1940. We were only 18 when we married and she died at 20 from Cholera.
Things haven’t been the same since then, but, I’ve got a new hobby now! They should
be leaving for school soon. They’ll come to Mile End and get the 25 any minute now.
I remember when we first met. They were walking home from school in the dark.
They were quite scared so I…I comforted them. They showed me here they lived so I
took them, but told them to keep it a secret, our little secret.
Why hadn’t they come yet?! Were they avoiding me? Had they told?!! Then, I saw
them cross the road. They weren’t supposed to be taking that route! I followed them
over the bridge and to their school. They had me angry now. I’m not very nice when
I’m angry!
I waited until 15:00 when they finished. I had a nice surprise for them. I left a card
with their names in our secret den. I know they would go there.
It said: I didn’t see you today, it’s a shame,
but why don’t you go to the bridge,
love Jim
Then at the bridge there was chocolates and a card.
It said: These are for you, meet me at the woods near my house
So they came. Little Lucy, the younger one, 8, said
“Erm… we’re sorry Jim, but we can’t see you any-“
“Did you tell?” I said calmly.
“It may have slipped out” said James, 10.
“I TOLD YOU NOT TO TELL!!”
I grabbed him by his jacket and pushed him against the trees. Lucy stepped back in
fright so I leant in and kissed her forehead. They tried to run but I grabbed them back
in anger. They weren’t going anywhere!
