1. 1. What is Bangla TV? Where is it? What do they do?
2. Who is the main audience
3. What job roles did you learn about?
4. Which job interested you?
Bangla TV is a television company that broadcast the news from
Bangladesh and England and shows films and programmes, both English
and Bengali. It is based in 105 high street, Stratford, London E15. It took
9months to start the company and it has been up and running for 10years!
The main audience for the company is said to be mainly elderly people
although they do have a popular audience between 15-18 year olds. I
think the main reason for this is predominately Bengali speaking
television company and not many young people speak it fluently. Within
my school, only 1 in 10 watches it.
There were many different job roles in Bangla TV, all as important as
each other. This is because it is a long process and difficult to create a
successful television company. For example, the head chairman director
and producer (owner and founder of the company) had many roles within
the company. Sometimes he would have to interfere with the business
and suggest what you can and can not show. He has to sit with every
department and do this. He doesn't get paid but he pays the employees.
He went to university and got a masters and he has what he calls life long
experience.
The presenters and news reporters mainly needed experience to be apart
of the company but the chairman said that they "take young people to be
an apprentice for a while." They would just get local news to read. But if
you are really good then they would have you doing the 6 0'clock news.
He said "I'm always looking for young people as we are looking for a
young presenter to host a programme for the young people."
The communications officer has many roles and responsibilities within
the company. He has to contact people from other companies and talk
shows to get information and people to come on the show and produce
data to broadcast to the public. The qualifications that were maintained
from the communications officer was a masters in media and
communications and a PST focused in media. In order to do the job, it is
important that you are persistent. The responsibilities that a
communications officer has is closely linked to the news!
