1. Choose the job above that you are most interested in and explain why it appeals to
you:
Being a television presenter is the job that appeals to me the most. This is because it
appears to be an exciting, interesting and fun thing to do. You get the chance to
travel, meet new people and find out things that are unknown by others. I think that it
is one of those jobs that you would look forward to attending.
4
5. 2. Describe the skills that you think may be required to excel at this job and say why
they are important.
I think there are many skills that will contribute to the success of this job. One of
them would be listening skills as of course, there will be directions that need to be
followed. Also I would say the skill to be able to interpret you’re your manager or
someone is suggesting for you to do without being told exactly word for word/ in
detail. Another vital skill is the ability to read and write (English). This is for
obvious reasons, as they will have to read of an autocue board or remember a
script. And for simply presenting.
3. What are the main DOs and DON’Ts of the job?
- Health and safety risks
- You have to learn to find a balance so that you do not overshadow your co-host.
- Also during an interview, try not to talk more then the person your interviewing
- Make sure you do research before going on to set.
- You get to meet interesting people.
- Not always guaranteed work.
- It is an exciting job.
- If presenting a series, you’re your only guaranteed your job until the series is
over.
5
6. 4. Does the job involve issues of risk and health and safety? Explain. With every job
there are safety risks and that is just part of it. For TV Presenting, the risks are as
follows: - As you may be working with the general public, you could be at risk of
harm from one of them.
- The people behind the scenes of it all are also at risk as their are a lot of cables
involved and live wires
5. Is this a very competitive job market? Are there usually many vacancies for such
a post?
I think this is a very competitive job market because you have to have the right look,
voice and be willing to put a lot of hard work into it. There isn’t a lot of vacancies
advertised or usually going for this job so when an opportunity does come, you should be
prepared for it and make sure you always do the best you can.
6. Are most people in this job free lancers or regular salary workers, or is it
balanced?
Usually they are regular salary workers but I suppose it depends on what you are
presenting. Some are free lancers.
7. a) Why do you think that you are right for the job?
Because I am a versatile, fun person that likes to take on challenges. I have a
6
7. good reading and speaking ability. I can do whatever is needed to be done and
am willing to work hard in my job and put in my very best to get the very best.
Also I enjoy public speaking.
b) Evaluate your readiness for this job. What skills do you need to develop? What
other kinds of preparation do you need to make for this job?
I have a good reading level but of course, this skill could be developed in order to
be succesful. I probably need to develop the skill to interpret brief instructions and
not be afraid to get things wrong.
Use the grid below to list organisations you know that employ people for this job.
If you know the name of anyone who has been a big success at this job, then list
his/her/their name(s) in the second column.
