Operations Preparations and Commissioning – Senior Electrician
My role in the Shipyard in Dalian is primarily to oversee commissioning and
inspection of all equipment on-board eight ABS Classification new build JU2000
Jack-Ups. Main equipment fitted on-board these vessels is a complete NOV Drilling
Package, Caterpillar Generators, NOV-BLM Jacking System and Siemens Electrical
Distribution System. Also progressing the logistics projects that were started in
Dubai. This includes reviewing spare parts and updating high cost items that require
asset tracking and writing procedures for Seadrill’s management system including
black-start & rig recovery and weekly First Line Maintenance.

Operations Preparations – Electrician
My role whilst in the office for Seadrill’s new-build JU2000 Jack-ups was that I was
involved in all aspects of Operations Preparations while focusing primarily on review
of spare parts, tools and consumables and implementation into Seadrill’s logistics
system (IFS).
My responsibilities included obtaining OEM information from vendors, populating
spare parts lists and quantify items for purchase including certificate requirements.
Working in IFS building equipment trees, carrying out reviews of criticality and
assigning planned maintenance tasks. This included extracting information from
maintenance manuals to write maintenance tasks for equipment. I also established
procedures, promoted lessons learned and fully assisted rig crew until rig intake.

Worked on and monitored Kongsberg ICMS and PMS Systems and kept up to date
with the FMEA, UPS systems and NOV Deck cranes. Kept all planned maintenance
and service orders updated on a weekly basis. Kept track of all electrical equipment

Daily tasks included planned and un-planned maintenance, major and minor repairs,
putting engines on and off the board as operations changed. Carrying out full reset
procedure from black-out, including synchronising and balancing of main generator
loads. Worked alongside ETs carrying out maintenance on PLC’s, Siemens step7
and Amphion programmes. Maintained supplies for main drilling equipment, carried

Working for Seawell I progressed from Trainee Rig Electrician (in which all tasks are
supervised) to a competent Rig Electrician Tech 1, working unsupervised. Routinely
worked with many different parties including roles as a PA (performing authority) and
IA (isolating authority) on the permit to work system.
Worked on-board two Platform Rigs where I gained experience with heavy
machinery, AC and DC motors, EX rated equipment and SCR systems. Worked with
single and three phase equipment.
I was an active participant in the STOP system (with a minimum of one card per day)
