3. ABOUT
• Micro Apartments are a
type of housing that are
smaller in scale than the
typical apartment design.
• They provide a solution to
the affordable housing
crisis.
• Often designed with
younger renters in mind.
• They have a maximum of
500 SQ FT.

4. PROBLEM STATEMENT
While Micro Apartments are designed to make the most out of a
small space, most are not designed with the idea of pets being
involved in home living. In the United States alone, “approximately
37-47% of all households in the United States have a dog, and 30-
37% have a cat” (Source: APPA). This shows a good amount of
people own pets and either let them live indoors with them or
close by. If a micro apartment design went out of its way to
accommodate for pet owners, then it would be able to garner
more attention from the group of people who would appreciate
smaller living while being able to retain their pets.
4
5. CONCEPT STATEMENT
The design will be developed with small to medium sized cats in
mind while still retaining the aspects of a micro apartment that
draw people to renting the apartments. Including, but not limited
to, the need for less material items due to smallness of space, the
convenience of all amenities within close range, and the ability to
be a self-sustained unit. While the design will emphasize the ability
to house cats within it and their needs, it will also focus on the
needs of a micro apartment tenant.
