3. Within a horror film, you should expect some sort of
spooky object within the scene to really creep you out.
If a horror film contains a cursed object, the narrative is
usually based around it.
For example, within the film 'Chucky', a killer doll goes on
a mass murder spree. By using something innocent such
as a doll, it creates an awkward tension within the
audience.
In our film out spooky object is the Ouija board and our
whole film revolves around this.
4. Within most horror films, we can expect the film to
be set in a dark and gloomy setting. This helps the
film to already have a tense and eerie atmosphere
from the first time the setting is established.
Common horror settings are things such as:
- Ghost Towns
- Haunted Houses
- Abandoned Mental Asylums
- Dark forests and woods
5. The murder weapon is an important piece of
iconography within horror films. This is because
when we see it, we are immediately given thoughts
of death and terror. These are both things we relate
to horror and so this makes the murder weapon an
effective use of iconography. An example of a horror
film that prominently shows a murder weapon is
'Scream'. Within this slasher film, we are able to
identify that the antagonist is always wielding a
knife.
6. Blood is a very iconic symbol within the
horror genre. This is because by using
blood, we are able to easily identify that
some sort of injury whether it be minor
or fatal has occurred. This easily relates
to the horror genre as in pretty much
every horror movie, someone is
guaranteed to die. Because of this, it is
typically used as iconography within
horror movies
