Interactive Powerpoint_How to Master effective communication
Horror Movie Poster and Magazine Research
1. The research we have carried
out supports our final
products as they fit in with
the specified genre: horror.
Together, we picked out
typical characteristics such as
dim lighting, the use of dark
colours and an image giving
an idea of the film so the
audience know what to
expect.
2. We created our movie poster with an element of The Blair
Witch Project in mind. We planned to use the idea of how
the person’s head blends into the trees
3. We used an image of a forest at the top of the poster and
decided to blend another image over the top. This next
image blends the two victims into the trees image, which
gives the impression that they’re in the woods.
4. We incorporated our own idea of the moon at
the top of the poster shining down to reveal
the two victims in a mysterious light. This gave
the poster a more uncanny and eerie
atmosphere which added to our theme of
horror.
5. To create the magazine we took a still picture of one of the victims and
featured her as the main image and story, then placed this on the front
cover which we found was often the case for existing horror film
magazines and film magazines in general.
6. We first considered using both the victims but from research we mostly found that
it is usually on individual featured on a front page. We spent time giving her a
rundown and injured look. We did this to give the impression that she had been
attacked which specifies to the audience whom the film is about; also that she will
be one of the victims too. We was influenced to do this by the horror film
magazine ‘Scars’ which includes a main picture of a victim or villain covered in
blood.
7. We took quite a lot of influence from the Evil Dead
trailer, using similar camera and editing techniques.
There are repetitive flashes to black throughout the Evil Dead trailer which
we took great influence in whilst making our trailer and included them in
the jump cuts of the running scene and the last shot to give the impression
that someone is blinking.

8. Both our woods scene and running scene were partly influenced by the
Evil Dead trailer as the trailer includes a scene with a girl running through
the woods as the camera track along behind her, we shot similar footage
but as separate scenes and using either a hand held camera or immobile
shots.

9. Close-ups of murder weapons (gun, bullets and drill) can be seen.
In our trailer we have one close-up of the rope used to tie the two
protagonists up
