2. PRODUCTION
The kind of media institution that might distribute my film
would be a company such as, Tornado films. Antony Smith
(the man behind Tornado Films) has recently finished three
weeks of filming at the Goytre Valley, near Port Talbot, for his
new production, ‘Berserkers’. A production company such as
Tornado films would be an ideal choice for a variety of
reasons. Tornado films is a local, low budget company which
supports youth in the entertainments business. If I were to pitch
my idea to a mainstream production company such as
universal studios, I would almost inevitably get turned down.
Tornado films’ contribution toward youth success in media is
made evident by their creation of the ‘lightning hut’. The
intentions of creating the lightning hut was to ‘equip young
people for the Creative Industries of the future’ as quoted from
their website. This suggests that they are likely to accept the
proposal to produce this film as they evidently support youth
who intent to enter the media business.
3. DISTRIBUTION
Once the movie is produced / in production, it is
essential that we distribute it. We would do this
using a variety of techniques. One of the most
effective and easiest methods is to promote and
distribute the film on social media. For example
set up a Facebook page, twitter account and / or
even an Instagram. These and many more are
social media sites, which are free to use and due
to the technologically aware youths (our target
audience), social networking is an almost definite
success.
4. There are also alternatives, such as web based advertising (for
example creating a YouTube account where we give up dates on our
progress and behind the scenes footage). Far more traditional methods
could also be used, such as print based advertising (posters, leaflets,
having our film reviewed by a film critic which would then be wrote
about in a newspaper). The use of both above and below the line
advertising would almost certainly successfully distribute our thriller
series. Similar to mainstream production companies, mainstream
cinemas are also almost certain to turn down my appeal to have for
example a trailers of our film shown during the previews. In order to
have our film viewed we could apply to an independent cinema which
is far more likely to show our trailer there during previews, or even the
actual film. The use of hybrid distribution was also be a successful
investment as the company would I would do the deal with is likely to
reach people that we cannot.
