BIOGRAPHY
Formed in Ghana in the year 1999 with a membership of eight musicians, Coastal Vibes Band,
then Amanfo Band Inc., played a central role in developing an awareness of African music
among Ghanaians and the Europeans as well in the late 90’s. The band has a membership of six
musicians currently.
Coastal Vibes plays an authentic African music that is criss-cross rhythms. The group has a
concept that depicts African culture and plays what we call “coastal vibes” that makes the
group so unique. Though over the years there have been some few changes, we still keep the
same concept and spirit. The group uses both western and local instruments for performances.
In 2005, the venture made a global hit with the album “Celebration” and responses from fans
were that, the other tracks on the album are very touching.
Coastal Vibes’ debut album displayed music whose rock reference especially in the guitar solos,
piano and drums combined with vibrant African criss-cross rhythms. The band’s true power
mostly fully comes across on stage, when African village scenarios and a mastery of rhythm and
melody summoned up energy and spirit. The group has very interesting and innovative
musicians who always bring ideas for more improvisations on songs especially right on stage.
It is believed in Africa that, the music you sing tells where you come from and as you know; the
songs the band sings or performs are from the ‘coastal vibes’. Now the ‘coastal vibes’ were
initially sung by the forefathers who were then fishermen thus, they sang those songs to help
them work effectively and praise their maker (Almighty GOD). So as you can see, they did those
songs on the shores of our motherland Ghana. As a result, many people never heard the songs,
about the songs or felt the passion and effectiveness of it not to even talk about learning them.
That’s why Coastal Vibes has taken it upon itself to bring those songs to the doorstep of our
friends, especially our western friends (Europeans, Americans, Asians, etc) and the world as a
whole.

These songs that we sing portrays Ghanaian coast side culture and so far has been accepted
worldwide and we are still pushing so hard that the whole world will know Ghanaian culture
and perhaps learn from it. As part of our plans, we are thinking of organizing an annual reunion
concert or festival to educate our fellow brethren.
