2. ‘A qualitative study on the general effects
of pests and diseases in overall farming in
Barangay, Batuila, Baleno, masbate’
3. INTRODUCTION
Nature and Effects of Plant Pests and Diseases
Plant pests and pathogens interfere with the growth and cause damage to
cultivated and naturally growing plants. The interference and damage
result in the failure of plants to reach their genetic potential. As a
consequence, it is estimated that pre- and postharvest pests and
diseases destroy at least 30–40% of global agricultural production.
Losses are greater in less developed countries where the adoption and
implementation of high-input management is lower, and weather
conditions may be more conducive. In addition, in their efforts to manage
or control pests and diseases, humans spend a great deal of time and
money developing and applying new pesticides. Inappropriate application
of these pesticides may have damaging environmental and human health
impacts.
4. Juhuo Luo (2010)
according to this study the crop diseases and insect pests were all
important biological hazard in agricultural production, and for many
years, they restrictedseriously the agricultural sustainable
development. Statistics from the food and agriculture organization
should the world grain lost 10% because of pest and 14% because of
diseases for many years.
