2. The Sacra of San Michele is an ancient abbey built between 983 and 987
on the top of mount Pirchiriano. Inside the main Church of the Sacra are
buried members of the Savoys. It is dedicated to the cult of the Archangel
Michael, defender of the Christian people, and it is on the
pilgrimage ruote from Saint-Michel ( France ) to Monte Sant’Angelo
(Puglia)
3. The Po is Italy’s longest river. It flows eastward
across northern Italy starting from Monviso in the
Alps It is 652 km long. The river flows through many
important Italian cities, including Turin, Valenza
(where we live), Pavia, Piacenza and Ferrara and it
is connected to Milan through a net of
channels called navigli which Leonardo da
Vinci helped design. Near the end of its course, it
creates a wide delta projecting into the Adriatic Sea
near Venice.

4. Milan is in Northern Italy and it is considered important for commerce,
design, fashion, education and finance. Its business district host Italy’s
Stock Exchange.
It is a city rich in art, architecture and history. You can see Milan
Cathedral which is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. Sforza
Castle, La Scala opera house, and the Convento of Santa Maria delle
Grazie where there is Leonardo da Vinci’s Cenacolo ( The Last
Supper)
5. Leonardo da Vinci was an Italian polymath of the Renaissance
interested in in invention, drawing, painting, sculpture, architecture,
science, music, mathematics, engineering, literature, anatomy, geology
and astronomy, He painted the Mona Lisa, the last Supper and
Salvator Mundi, sold for a world record of $450 million in 2017. He
also drew the Vitruvian Man.
6. The Scrovegni Chapel is in Padoa and is considered one of the most
important masterpieces of Western art. It was frescoed between 1303 and
1305 by Giotto. The frescoes, which narrate events in the lives of the Virgin
Mary and Christ, cover the entire walls. On the wall opposite the altar is the
Universal Judgement, which concludes the story of human salvation.
7. Venice is a beautiful city in the North-East of Italy. There are a few
roads and a lot of canals. So gondolas and ferries are the main means
of transport. Streets are called '' calle ''.The most important square is
San Marco Square, whrere you can admire San Marco Basilica.
The Carnival of Venice is very important for Italy. Every year
people wear colourful costumes and amazing masks.

8. The Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi is one of the most important
places of Christian pilgrimage. The basilica, begun in 1228, is built into
the side of a hill and comprises two churches known as the Upper Church
and the Lower Church. Both are decorated with frescoes by medieval
painters such as Cimabue and Giotto.
9. The Tower of Pisa is the bell tower of
Santa Maria Assunta Cathedral in
Pisa. It is about 57 metres high and
has 294 steps. It is known worldwide
for its nearly four-degree lean, the
result of an unstable foundation. In
fact the tower began to lean during
construction in the 12th century, due
to soft ground which could not
properly support the structure's
weight, and it worsened through the
completion of construction in the 14th
century. By 1990 the tilt had reached
5.5 degrees. The structure was
stabilized by remedial work between
1993 and 2001, which reduced the tilt
to 3.97 degrees.

can enjoy an impressive array of stalactites and

11. The Colosseum , built in 70AD, is located in Rome. In 1980 it became a
World Heritage Site. Today the Colosseum is one of Italy's major tourist
attractions.
It is an amphitheater where fights among gladiators and sometimes
among animals took place
12. Mount Etna is an active volcano in Sicily. It lies above the convergent
plate margin between the African Plate and the Euroasian Plate. In
Greek mythology, the deadly monster Typhon was trapped under this
mountain by Zeus because he had defied Zeus. So his restless turnings
were the cause of earthquakes and lava- flows. Mount Etna is a Unesco
World Heritage Site.
13. ITALIAN FOOD
Do tourists come to Italy to enjoy its food ? Yes, they do , of course !
Pasta , agnolotti, pizza, arancini, lasagne, risotto, gnocchi, ossobuco alla
milanese, prosciutto crudo di Parma, fiorentina steak , olive all’ascolana,
then cheese and desserts. Have you ever tasted torrone, cannoli siciliani
and tiramisù ? Do that and your life will be different…
14. LAMBORGHINI AND FERRARI
The story of ‘’Lamborghini car’’ began in the 1963 in Sant’Agata
Bolognese. The company was founded by Ferruccio Lamborghini.
At first the company produced tractors and then started to create
luxury cars . Each engine is hand-made and to paint a single car you
need 15 litres of paint and about 250 hours !
Ferrari is an Italian car industry founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1947 in
Maranello ( Modena). The sports car as well as the racing cars are
really f ast and expensive. Ferrari brand is a black prancing horse
on a yellow background, letters S.F and three stripes : green, white
and red ( the colours of the Italian flag).
