The Museum of Contemporary Arts and Design
I was not aware that there was a
museum in the School of Design
and Arts building of CSB until
we were told to visit the said
museum. I visited MCAD with a
few of my blockmates. I didn’t
know what to expect. When we
got there the exhibition interns/
tour guides told us about the
current exhibition. “The Vexed Contemporary” is the title of the exhibition. I
wondered why and so I looked up the meaning of these two words. Vexed means
“difficult or frustrating to deal with” while contemporary means existing in the
same time period. And once I saw all the artworks inside, I quickly understood
why it was named as such. To be honest, a person who doesn’t know how to look
at art would be totally clueless about what was displayed. They are pretty to look at
but the meaning behind it would be impossible to think of. All the artworks were
made my Filipino artists. My friends and I had a difficult time trying to understand
some of the artwork. The most eye catching artwork for me is the Bomba (Fall
Out) by Kawayan De Guia. It’s the first thing you will notice when you enter the
museum. They look like glamorous bombs or maybe even rocket ships at first. It is
said to be inspired by war.
The artwork “105 degrees and rising by Pio Abad is another eyecatching
artwork. At the first look, I thought it was a painting of orange birds flying away
2. together but the guide told us that it was a historical narrative with a flowing
background. I couldn’t see it. When you look at it closely, you could see eyes in
the shade of blue and hair in the shade of brown peeking through the orange and
white background. Another artwork I couldn’t quite understand was the “Dragon
Kite”byPoklongAnading. According to the woman there, it was basically textured
strokes on a canvas. And I could see that it was. I just couldn’t understand why it
was called Dragon Kite. There was a portion of the museum wherein there were
backgrounds of different colors. It resembled a shooting area for television shows.
The title of the artwork is “Untitled Episode” by Yason Banal. I think that the title
suits the installation because there was literally nothing there. It could mean that
you could create anything out of that set. A new episode, waiting to be made. And
I liked the idea. “When the Medium killed the message” by Leslie de Chavez is
also an interesting piece. The words were sown or embroidered on the canvas.
What’s interesting about this is that the words are written in an odd format.
“Jejemon” as they would call it now. It will challenge your mind to read it. I found
it really interesting and fun. There was a board game in the middle of the first floor
of the museum. It resembled the famous board game “Monopoly” but it was a lot
different. The name of the game is “Drop Dead” by Ikoy Ricio. It is interesting
because in order to win, you must collect illnesses and die. It is kind of morbid
once you think about it but I find it rather fascinating. It makes you wonder what
could the artist have had in mind when he created the game.
There are a lot more artworks inside the museum exhibit that will make you
wonder and think about how they got the idea or what was it and why is it
considered art, but it is nice to see works of art different from the usual extravagant
paintings.

The NCAA Season 91 Closing Ceremony
This year’s National Collegiate Athletic Association or the NCAA in
the Philippines was hosted by Mapua Institute of Technology. It was opened on
June 27, 2015 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City and ended last March 8,
2016 with the Cheerleading Competition and closing ceremonies, as the final event
held at the MOA Arena.
Since nothing much really happened during the closing, well obviously all
the winning teams gathered in MOA Arena for the last time to be publicly
awarded, I’m just going to share the story behind our blazing victory.
The volleyball tournaments of NCAA Season91 started on November 30, 2015.
The Colegio de San Juan de Letran is currently hosting the tournament. Games are
played at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan City. The saying “it’s as hard as
getting through an eye of a needle” would probably be the best description I can
give.
4. Until now I still can’t believe that I have been a part of that Blazing H1story, no
words can express how grateful I am to be part of the Lady Blazers. It was such a
wonderful experience for a rookie like me. We made history, clinching our first
ever Championship title in Women's Volleyball. Who would have thought we
entered the semis at 4th, we were the underdogs, but we were able to climb to the
top beating the San Sebastian Lady Stags four times.
We actually earned a shot at the title twice – 2008-09 – but were foiled each time
by San Sebastian, also under Coach Roger Gorayeb. That made the victory
sweeter with our team capping our title romp by crushing the Lady Stars’ thrice-
to-beat edge. Buck the odds, we, the Lady Blazers did as we made it to the
stepladder semis at No. 4 before getting back at No. 3 Perpetual Help, No. 2 and
last year’s titlist Arellano U and elimination round sweeper San Sebastian, teams
that they failed to beat in the elims. No wonder God is truly amazing and He works
in mysterious ways.

SYNCED: Romançon Dance Company
I watched the Saint Benilde Romançon Dance Company together with my
blockmates performing for a show. The show was entitled, "Synced" and was held
at the SDA campus. The group is composed ofstudents of De La Salle College of
Saint Benilde which have the bestdancing and performing skills among the rest. It
is an event where the dance group will perform mostly for freshmen students of
DLS-CSB and show what they have got just to amaze and welcome us Benildean
froshies.
I heard that the group also recieved awards and won even in international
competitions. I have watched some of the group before which were female
members during our Interaktiv and I can say that they are really good. At first, they
dressed like those people living in the jungle, and then dance in that theme. Their
steps are good and they danced together with exact timing. The group is composed
of different dancers in different fields. There are dancers who were contortionists
or acrobats, those who do tumblings and vertical jumps etc. All together, I feel
6. amazed becausethey managed to do their parts well all together. Each of the
performances have different themes. They performed different genres of dancing
after every single performance. There are also little kids who danced in the show.
It made the show really charming and cute. There are also ballet performances
performed by ballet dancers of Benilde that gave us a more contemporary and
classic feel. Most of the group danced hip-hop, upbeat and reggae music in
different styles in each performance thus; I can notice the transition whenever they
change costumes and props. There are also dancing performances where in they
tackle different issues in our society including "Cyber Bullying" and "Cyber Sex".
And lastly, they also danced while they were acting mainly through a comedy
story.
My "Synced" experience was an amazing and a memorable one. This was my
favorite from all of the events. All of the dance performances where really good
and great. Each performance conveys and implies different meanings but they
made it though using their talents in dancing. Seeing them dance makes me want to
move and groove also to the beat and music. I hope that there will be more
performances of Saint Benilde Romançon Dance Group for me to watch because it
is such an entertainment for me and it's like a way for me to forget all the stresses
in life. The show was worth watching for and I really had a great time.

The World We Live Without
This is the first stage musical that I have ever been to and I even watched it all by
myself. Imagine a society where the LGBTQA+ is accepted and the
heterosexuals are oppressed. This is the theme the epic stage
musical “The World We Live Without” revolved around.
