The Importance of Art Essay
The Importance of Art
Throughout the ages art has played a crucial role in life. Art is universal and because art is
everywhere, we experience it on a daily basis. From the houses we live in (architecture) to the
movies we see (theatre) to the books that we read (literature). Even in ancient culture art has played
a crucial role. In prehistoric times cave dwellers drew on the wall of caves to record history. In
biblical times paintings recorded the life and death of Christ. Throughout time art has recorded
history. Most art is created for a specific reason or purpose, it has a way of expressing ideas and
beliefs, and it can record the experiences of all people.
Most art has some sort of reason or purpose behind it. It might...show more content...
Many people thought that African art was too abstract with no attempt to look real. On the other
hand, an Italian artist named Bellini painted "Christ Blessing" which is another example of
symbolic art. Some of the symbols Bellini uses are– Christ is wearing a purple robe, which is a
symbol of grief. Scars on his hand indicated this took place after the crucifixion. Various motifs in
the distant landscape allude to the resurrection. For instance, the bird on the barren branches of a
tree represents death, a pair of rabbits signify regeneration, there are three robed figures that are
Mary Magdalen, Mary, the mother of James and Mary Salome, who having visited the tomb of
Christ hurry to tell the disciples of the empty tomb and the bell tower denotes that salvation is found
through Christ's sacrifice. All of these things are in the painting for a reason, they record in detail
about an event in history.
Many cultures around the world express their ideas and beliefs in various works of art. In Africa
the Nigerian Chokwe tribe held great respect for their dead ancestors. They would pray while
carving an ancestral figure. One example of their work is in the figure "Chibinda" (The Hunter).
This figure represents the culture hero Ilunga Katele, royal ancestor of the Chokwe people. Ilunga
taught the art of hunting. This figure is wearing elaborate headgear, which is a sign of royal rank.

The Importance of Art Essay
Art is a form of human expression. Art can be seen as the artist sleight of hand on his mood. Art
is in various media from posters to public wall of which we call "graffiti". Art is elusive as the use
of colors shapes and the surface used adds a new dimension. Art portrays various ideas, feelings
such as triumph, love, happiness, sorrow and boredom in loss to mention a few. Art is beauty and
creativity. During man's evolution art has progressed over in its most primitive state up to its most
modernized versions today.
History shows that art has been used as a major tool for communication. Cavemen did art on their
walls using unsophisticated and blunt tools. The indigenous people of our country, the aborigines

Ancient Egyptians, Aztecs, Incas and Mayans created many meticulous pieces of art. Some of the
meticulous pieces of art are masks, pyramids, jewelry, wall paintings, tombs, sarcophagi. The
primal Romans and Greeks showed their appreciation of life through art. India used art to show
their dance and their religions. The African art is symbolic of their tribal cuffs as seen of their totem
poles.
Today, Art has gone through many changes. Abstract art dominates art today shows ambiguous life
a man lives, in contrast to the unambiguous art of the past. Modern does not have spirituality and
cultural values and beliefs in the past and is now a reflection of a materialistic life of today. Bill
Henson, a portrait artist used his 12 year old Olympia as a nude model for his portrait drawing. This
brought much controversy that he was exploiting the body of an under – age girl as his own gains.
This shows that art is used for popularity and financial gain. The message behind art is to show ideas
and ideas that are relevant to society. Art is meant to enliven life and things, thoughmodern art
shows more if life's negativeness. Galleries, parks and museums view to the public with
meaningfulness and with the appreciation for art. Art is still effective as hand written material was
seen in the walls of Ancient Egypt. Modern art stimulates the thought and fosters greater

Reflective Essay On Art
The day was December 30th it was a chilly day when a young artist named Betty Edwards walked
into her first class on art. I was walking alone a week prior after meeting up with some of my
students that I tutor when I got a call from my old art professor. I took me back to when I started
learning the wonder and culture behind art. After taking his course for half a year I gave up on
art my levels of motivation dropped and I felt like I just couldn't do it. During our talk he
recommended to a small coffee shop that offered art lessons for all levels of artist. Today December
30th the day before New Year's Eve was my first course at the coffee shop almost in the smack
center of nowhere of New York. Every time the door would open you could hear the cars
simultaneously rush by even if we were in an alleyway. In all their were a total of 20 students who
registered for the art lessons only 19 showed up. Some of them beginners some of them looked like
their art was meant for a gallery. We all brought one thing to represent us and our art I brought an
unbelievably small cat drawing that looked horrendous compared to the other artists. The instructor
walked in and handed out construction paper and a pencil. Little did I know this would relate to our
lesson. The 20th student walked in late with no representation of his art he came in with a notebook
and himself. His name was Sam and he was my artnet for the next four weeks. We started our
lessons the instructors first words where

My Experience For Art
Essay B: Most students have an identity, an interest, or a talent that defines them in an essential way.
Tell us about yourself.
Like every other elementary school student in America, I was required to take a
not–so–celebrated art class every school year. Sure, I was honored by having one or two pieces of
artwork sent to the Houston Rodeo Art Show every now and then– no big deal, but I was no
Leonardo da Vinci painting the Mona Lisa. I could not even draw a curved line, much less a
straight one. Although I didn't enjoy all aspects of art class, I remember being enticed by the way
soft colors smoothly blended together when I would accidentally brush outside the lines during the
water coloring lessons. Unaware that seeds were being planted for future aspirations in creative
design, I fell in love with anything that I could create with a paintbrush.
My appreciation for art began in the form of theater during my intermediate school years.
As something that I had not yet been exposed to, it completely captured me. Having it all, the
lights, the cameras, the costumes, and the way I could lie and be praised for it was so
intoxicating. Therefore, I joined Christian Youth Theater giving me the perfect opportunity to
experience all of it. However, an audition was required and performing solo in front of every
competitor and three judges was not at the top of my list; nevertheless, I managed to overcome my
anxiety and awkwardness and landed a role

My Favorite Art Class
I am always full of passion in my favorite thing––drawing. Besides, I also go to some foundation art
classes to train my art skills. After I start my life in school, art class is always my favorite class. I
even thought that art can be a part of my future. Unfortunately, reality is brutal. Most of the student
in my country were been told that they have to choose the department that can offer them a good
job. Most of the people also believed that having a nice job is the only way to earn a lot of money,
and also been known as succeed. When I'm in senior high school, I am also good at math, science and
geology. I always get good grades in these courses. But why the art is not in these courses? In my
country, art is not the main subject of the education, it only be categorize as a class that can make
school learning not so boring. So after I finished the big exam in my last year of my senior high
school, I use my final score to choose the department–Electrical Engineering– that everyone think is

high school, but it is harder and abstracter. I know that these foundation class is really important,

high school. Not like those who are already for the college, I am struggle in the class. Fortunately, I

Reflection About Art
Arts generate a strong feeling of admiration, displeasure, or anything in between. Furthermore, art
expresses the human experience, and because of that correlation, there's a stronger bond between art
and humanity. That bond allows art to evoke intense and powerful emotion from us . However, there
is a difference between art and art–like; art has implication beyond the obvious, and art–like being
merely decorative. So it is crucial to remember, that true art has meaning either positive or
negative. Obviously, I learned that through this course and from experiencing art in the real
world. In fact, since the beginning of this course I've been searching for art in the real world, so I
can analyze and try to understand the deeper meaning behind it. Searching and Finding art in the
world has certainly opened my eyes to all of the wonderful things in the world. Searching for art,
I've found that it is everywhere around us and plays a major role in our everyday lives. Since
taking this course I have encountered art in my home and school. Both are places that I go almost
everyday, but my concept of art was so limited that I neglected to notice. At my home the paintings,
books, and even the building itself is art. Infact, my mom has a Thomas Kinkade original hanging
in the hallway and countless bibles lying around. Not only do we have bibles, but on my bookshelf
lies tons of classic literature that I never considered to be art, because I thought art was "just
paintings and stuff".

What Is Modern Art? Essay
Ha Lim (Sally) Lee

Intro to Modernism
Daniel Spaulding
Midterm Essay
What is Modern Art? Modern Art was created roughly during the 1800s to the 1900s. Before this
period, art depicted religious or mythological scenes that told stories and guided the audience
through art. "Modern Art denotes the style and philosophy of the art produced during that
era."(Arnason) This time was usually connected with art that threw the old traditions aside in a
spirit of experimentation. This doesn't mean that modern art pieces don't have a story or a meaning
behind them. To break out of the tradition, artists had to have courage to do what they loved. In
Basic Writings of Kant, Wood states, "Have courage to use your own reason." Modern art can range
from paintings to sculptures. Some artists experimented with the expressive use of color,
non–traditional materials, new techniques, and new mediums. Two of the most popular modern
works, currently presented at Los Angeles County Museum of Art, were "The Jewel" by Jay
DeFeo and "Irregular Forms: Creation" by Frantisek Kupka . Both of these paintings were
expressed with oil paint on canvas. However, despite the same mediums used in their works, these
two have very opposing feeling from each other.
"The Jewel" by Jay DeFeo was started in 1958 and was finished in 1959. This is a gorgeous giant
piece which measures up to 120" by 57.5". The Jewel recalls that her works of this period were a
marriage of painting and sculpture. She
