Legal History
“Tech Act”-Technology-Related Assistance for
Individuals with Disabilities Act of 1988.
Purpose: to improve awareness and access to
assistive technology
Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 508)
Purpose: requires Federal agencies to make
electronic and information technology accessible
to people with disabilities
Assistive Technology Act of 1998 (reauthorized in
2004) (AT Act)
Purpose: specifies that assistive technology
services must be provided for all individuals with
disabilities. Funds are extended to provide
assistive technology to states and six U.S.
territories.
