Why should we take care
of nature?
• Read and underline the verbs in the following text.
Write the verbs and their meanings on your notebook:
John and the tree:
John wants to build a house next to a forest. In the forest, there are lots of trees, flowers
and animals. There is a lake too. John takes his axe and goes to the forest. He talks to a
tree. “I need wood to build my house,” he says. So the tree gives John some wood.
John’s friends visit him and they like his house. John and his friends go to the forest and
cut down more and more and more trees, to build more and more houses. Soon there
are not more trees. There aren’t any flowers. There are not any animals. The lake is dirty.
The people are sad and thirsty. John goes to the forest.” What happened?” John asks the
tree. “You cut down the trees in the forest. Now the animals do not have food to eat or a
place to live. The lake is dirty so there aren’t any fishes”, says the tree. “What can I do?”
asks John. “Plant trees and clean the lake” says the tree. John and his friends plant trees
and they clean the lake. Now the trees are tall and have leaves. There are flowers. The
animals are back in the forest. There are fishes in the lake. The forest is cool again.
Everyone is happy.
John and the tree:
John quiere construir una casa al lado de un bosque. En el bosque, hay muchos
árboles, flores y animales. También hay un lago. John toma su hacha y se va al
bosque. Él le habla a un árbol. "Necesito madera para construir mi casa", dice.
Entonces el árbol le da a John algo de madera. Los amigos de John lo visitan y les
gusta su casa. John y sus amigos van al bosque y talan cada vez más y más árboles,
para construir más y más casas. Pronto no hay más árboles. No hay flores No hay
animales. El lago esta sucio. La gente está triste y sedienta. John va al bosque. ¿Que
pasó?" John le pregunta al árbol. “Cortaste los árboles en el bosque. Ahora los
animales no tienen comida para comer o un lugar para vivir. El lago está sucio, así que
no hay peces ", dice el árbol. "¿Que puedo hacer?" pregunta John "Planta árboles y
limpia el lago" dice el árbol. John y sus amigos plantan árboles y limpian el lago.
Ahora los árboles son altos y tienen hojas. Hay flores. Los animales están de vuelta en
el bosque. Hay peces en el lago. El bosque está fresco otra vez. Todos están felices.
