The document introduces second grade students to local water life and habitats in the Mississippi River through a PowerPoint presentation, which aims to teach students to verbally and visually identify five examples of local water animals and their river habitat. It provides definitions of habitat and river, lists common river animals and components of the river habitat, and concludes with a summary of the lesson and a teaser about discussing water conservation in the upcoming community project.

6. Definitions
Habitat- a home for plants, animals, and people.
River- A large natural stream of water flowing in a
channel to the sea, a lake, or another stream.
12. If you could ask one more question,
what would it be?
Take your blank sheets of paper and draw the type of
habitat that we learned about and include five
animals that live there.
After I have seen them, you may go and paint ONE
river animal on our mural, clean up, and read until we
are through.
13. Summary
We have just learned what a river habitat looks like, as
well as what types of animals we can expect to find
there. We have also talked about other things, such as
why animals and humans need water habitats. We will
talk and learn about conserving our river habitat next
week when we start this month’s community project
on water conservation.
