2. Definition:
 Demography: Derived from Latin word ‘demos’ meaning people. Hence it is science of people.
 According to Frank Lorimer: “In broad sense demography includes both demographical analysis
and population studies. A broad study of demography studies both qualitative and quantitative
aspects of population.”
 According to W.G.Barckley: “Demography does not deal with the behaviour of individuals but
only with the aggregates of people or even part thereof. The numerical portrayal of human
population is known as demography.”
 According to Peter R.Cox: “Demography is the study of statistical methods of human population
involving primarily the measurement of the size, growth and diminution of the numbers of the
people, the proportion of the living being born or dying within the same area or region and the
related function of fertility, mortality and marriage.

3. Introduction:
 Population Geography is the spatial study of human population. It is sub or branch of
human geography.
 It is considered as a systematic geography.
 In other word, the population geography is the study of human population with
reference to
1. Size. (Absolute No./ Density)
2. Composition. (Racial, Sex, Religious, Literacy, Rural or Urban, Age)
3. Spatial Distribution. (With topography)
Changes in the population that occurred over the time. [Growth(Increase or Decrease),
Fertility, Mortality, Migration]

4.  Population is composed/alter by the three basic feature:
1. Fertility.
2. Mortality.
3. Migration.
