Song of Solomon Essay
Toni Morrison's novel, Song of Solomon, encompasses many themes that were prevalent in the other novels written in the same time period.
Morrison produced this novel in 1977 just as racial issues and discrimination were at its peaks. "She [Morrison] was the first African American to
receive the Noble Prize in Literature." (Milliman 5) However, the setting of the story is in the 1930s when World War II was taking place. The novel
is based on an African–American family residing in Michigan who are victims of racism and social discrimination. The story focuses on Milkman
Dead, the main character, who is naГЇve and leaves his family and friends behind to become an independent, wealthy upperclassman. "Milkman

Milkman does not have a life of his own and cannot say that he is independent.
Milkman is about to leave his family behind when Macon Jr. informs him of a green bag in Pilate's home that is full of gold. Milkman and his best
friend Guitar Bains go to Pilate's house to steal the gold so he and his father can become wealthy. Guitar can be described as an extremist and is
part of the Seven Days organization. When an African American in the community is murdered, members of the Seven Days retaliate by putting a
white person to death the same way the African American was murdered. As Guitar's grandmother said to him, "A nigger in business is a terrible
thing to see. A terrible, terrible thing to see." (Morrison 22). This was intended towards Milkman's father and what type of a business man he was;
always being selfish and greedy for wealth. This is how Milkman realizes how his race plays a role in society. Pilate is Milkman's aunt who treats
him as her own son and is protective over him. Unfortunately for Milkman and Guitar, they did not find gold but they found Milkman's grandfather's
bones. This triggers Milkman and he finally leaves his home in search for gold in an old Pennsylvania farm.
Although he has left home to become wealthy, his family is still on his mind. When he is unable to find any gold in the cave of the Pennsylvania farm,
he starts to think about his family history. In Pennsylvania on his family's farm, Milkman meets Circe, a woman who helped deliver

Past: Happy– Pharrell Williams In the song "Happy" by Pharrell Williams, the message in the song is to always be happy, and that the sky is the
limit. When I was younger I always had big goals and I still believe it, and I keep reminding myself of the message in the song when I'm upset or
angry. When I was younger, I never seemed to enjoy thepresent moment and I was always looking towards the future, and once the future came, I
realized that I should've enjoyed the past, and not look at the future, and appreciate what's there in the moment. When I started listening to this song a
few years ago, I started hearing the true message in this song, and I started appreciating my life, and enjoying every moment of it. I figured out that the

After this experience all of his friends and family told him that his opportunity is over, and to give up his dreams of becoming a successful rapper.
He knew he has his chance and he blew it, but he never gave up. A few months later he gets another opportunity to rap in front of a crowd. He knew
he had to seize the chance, and to prove everyone wrong. The song comes on, and it describes how he's feeling before he goes on stage. He uses
sentences like, "his palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy. He's nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready to drop bombs..." He
is telling himself that if he blows this, his dream is over, and that "you only get one shot so do not miss your chance to blow, because this
opportunity once in a lifetime". When he finally goes on stage, he's feeling nervous, but he's so ambitious to get what he wants, that he starts to rap
like no one has ever heard. The crowd was astonished, and knew that his rap was the best they've ever listened to, which kick started his career as a
rapper. The song starts out with a piano playing, and then the piano stops, and very fast music comes in, and the rap starts right away. Therapping is
intense, because when you're hungry to achieve something you have to act intense about it.

Descriptive Essay About My Favorite Song
I am no stranger to the sound of silence, that apathetic conversation I have with myself in my head. I grew up being that weird kid that anyone can
pick on because I not dare myself to speak up to the verbal and sometimes even physical violence that occurred outside my comfort zone. In fear of
hurting someone's feelings because I knew what it's like to constantly have to be at war with everyone, even yourself. My name is Billy, I was named
by my uncle after Billy Joel. My uncle is the man who introduced me to the old classics. My favorite song of all time is "Hotel California" by the
Eagles. I've always enjoyed them, ever since I was a little girl. My uncle would play it all the time, and he would sing along. I'd watch him groove to

Subsequently, I've met some stoners who seemed more like thugs but, they were pretty chill to smoke with. In this gang of sad boys, one guy
would always talk about how much better he was than the rest of the people in this God forsaken town. In fact, he said he would make it big as a
rapper. Everytime he would preach about his unrealistic dreams, I would burst out laugh from how stupid he sounded, but who knew he would
become famous. To Illustrate how my life went downhill after I became a part of these guys' group, I'm going to chronologically describes the
events of my last day on Earth. The man who would talk about his life goals was named Eddie. Eddie had this character that no one else had, him
being so outgoing and funny caught my attention. I wouldn't say I developed feelings but I did adopt his mannerism because again, I had no self
identity. By doing this we've became close. He'd invite me everywhere he went. He would put me first then all of his friends. To be honest, I felt
great getting this much attention. Admittedly, I only hung out with Eddie because of his risky behavior. He was a daredevil in my eyes, and
everything he was I wanted to be. Although, Eddie had everybody fooled by his facade but I knew deep down how much of a monster he was. On a
cool Saturday night, Eddie invited me to a ghetto party at a shady, crime filled neighborhood. I stupidly accept his invitation, and we drove to the place.
As soon as we get there, my gut started turning.

The Song Analysis Of 'We Are The World'
In 1984, an iconic song was created by two sensational artists Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. A song they created inspired millions, originally
created for people of Africa during the time of a horrific famine, was later recreated for the earthquake of Haiti. And for many years our world has been
through so much trauma, trauma such as diseases, shootings, and devastating natural disasters. That song we know as "We Are The World
" created such
an inspiring notion that sparks to change our perspective of the world, how it is ours the children like Jackson said' " We are the world, we are the
children" meaning we are all connected and the lyrics of this song represents that.
When I listen to this song it gives a sense of hope, hope that everything will be alright. The songs sends out a powerful message that anyone and
everyone can help and make a difference in the world. The style of this song is so powerful it's an eclectic style of many incredible genres such as;
gospel, rock, hip–hop, R&B etc. many of the famous artists of this song were called the United Support Of Artists for Africa, despite their musical
differences came together and created a moving and inspirational meaningful song. That touched millions around the world, even today it's still an
iconic song to plenty such as myself connected to the world through those powerful lyrics, when Jackson wrote, "

What Is My Favorite Song Essay
As I always listen to variety of music all over the world, so I have many favorite songs that always dancing in my mind. However I will include these
five special, meaningful songs in my mix tape. The first one is Hey Soul Sister by Train. Actually the lyrics of this song does not have special
meaning for me but the song itself reminds me 6 years of being a student who stayed in boarding school with a lot of amazing friends. My friends
and I loved to sing this song whenever we felt stress or lazy to study as it is very catchy and have beautiful, harmony melody. Sometimes, we sang
this song for many times as loud as we can until our voice became husky. Whenever, I remind all what we had done or listening to Hey Soul Sister

As this song is originally written by him, it gave deep impact not just to my mind but to my heart too. Actually the singer of this song, Kim
Jonghung passed away recently as he committed suicide due to the depression that he suffered for quite long time. After knowing about that news,
I heard this song for one more time and I ended up crying like crazy for almost one hour and over. It is because the lyrics and melody of the song
really deep and full of sorrow. Actually I am the one who not really cry just for a song or movie, but this is my first time having this experience. I
just realized after his death that most the song that sang and written by him are related to his depression. It looks like he wanted to convey his feeling
through the song as he such a cheerful guy in front of cameras. Unfortunately, most of his friend and fans did not realize that and he chose that ways
to end up his depression and loneliness. This tragedy makes me noticed that we must always concern to people surroundings us as we do not know

Personal Essay: Song Analysis
My passion for music really didn't kick in until I wrote my first song. I had been playing guitar for about 6 years, but until my pen hit the paper I
never experienced how cathartic music can be. It allowed me to escape from the crazy and stressful world and bleed everything I was feeling onto
the page or over the strings. I have written close to 40 songs and each one has a special place in my heart for a specific time in my life. The stories
I tell in my songs allow me to step into the shoes of someone else, or perhaps make my own fit just a little more snug. I like to find energetic riffs
and sometimes quirky lyrics that inspire me to look at life a differently or find value in things or moments that are normally overlooked. As I build my
following I hope to give listeners what my songs have given me–a three minute hiatus from everything else. Hopefully that three minutes can last them

Song Comparison Essay The road of life can be a bumpy one. There will always be twists and turns that can alter a person's life, changing the course
of their destination. Even though life can be tough, you have to draw upon your inner strength in order to persevere. The songs, "Move Along" by The
All–American Rejects and "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" by Greenday sing about this message. The lyrics in their songs have manyliterary
devices such as personification, repetition, symbolism and juxtaposition. The personification will help you...show more content...
The theme is how when you have a tough, important moment in life, you have to make the best of it and move along. An image for these lyrics will
help you connect to the theme because you can see what is going on and a picture will help you understand something more. In my next paragraph, I
will be talking about how the singers used repetition to emphasize certain points. In these songs, lyrics were repeated. Repetition draws the listener's
attention to particular words or phrases. In the song, Time of Your Life, the singer repeats the line, "It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's
right. I hope you had the time of your life." This line is repeated throughout the song multiple times. The singer is emphasizing the fact that anything
can happen when you make your choice but in the end, you have to just relax and be happy. He wants the audience to really understand it. In the other
song, the line, "Move along, move along. Just to make it through" The singer is repeating the term, "Move along" because that is the main message in
this song. It is to move along when things seem bad. The singer wants the audience to really get the message and to feel good when they relate to this
song. These lines connect to the theme because they are talking about moving on in tough situations and being satisfied with the outcome. These lyrics
were emphasized well. Besides repetition, the singers also used symbols and juxtaposition to

Analysis Of The Song 1-800 By Logic

On average, 1 person commits suicide every 16.2 minutes(Do Something). The song 1–800 by Logic sets a scene of a boy who goes through life and
struggles with being gay, bullied, and suicidal thoughts. Which leads to a call to the 1–800 suicide hotline. The video takes a turn and ends happily
with the main actor being married and surrounded by family and friends. The main point that this song displays is that suicide is a real problem
and it portrays that through stressing the importance of accepting everyone. My main points in this paper are the content of the video, the sound
and pace, how this piece affects today's society, what modes of persuasion are used. The content of the video and the song itself overall is good in
the beginning the sound and pace starts with an actor humming he's the father of the main actor in the video. Then it brings in some soft
instrumentals for about 30 seconds. Then for about the first minute it is a soft smooth voice that you hear from Logic. As Logic begins to pick up
the pace the video also picks up the pace as you start going through the main actors' life at a quicker pace. You watch the main actor storm out of
his house after his father finds a gay magazine. Then suddenly, the singing stops and the instruments carry on softly. The singing stops because it is
a crucial part of the video and it wants you to pay attention. The main actor was staying at his boyfriend's house and his boyfriends dad knocks on
the door and finds them in bed together so the main actor grabs his stuff and gets escorted out of the house. This part of the video is a little confusing
though since the father doesn't seem to forcibly remove him. The main actor just kind of up and leaves. I think the main actor leaves willingly
because he's embarrassed that he got caught with him. The father the whole time giving off a confused state. When the singing comes back in its one
of the featured artist on the song. While she sings the main actor appears to walk through life in a state of depression. Then logic comes back in and
continues sing with a smooth flow. While the main actor begins to get bullied cause, his classmates

The Sound of Music Essay
The Sound of Music
The Sound of Music relied on orchestral background and multiple solo opera parts. I slightly remember watching The Sound of Music years ago, and
dreaded watching it again. Watching it this time was different as I remember. As I'm beginning to have a basic appreciation for music I really enjoyed
it much more. When I really paid attention to the music and the words being sung it told the whole movie. I also think that the fullness of the music
also depicts something as well.
I believe that just the music could tell the movie without seeing anything at all. It begins with her singing by herself in the mountains The Hills are

In this song their was fullness in the music. She was singing along with seven kids. Five of which had the female parts and the male parts. This is
when she began to realize where she belonged and her purpose for being there.
She was sent to live with the Captain where he didn't want music in his house. He was depressed and saddened with no music. When the music came
out the first time you could tell from his reaction that it had sparked excitement and happiness in his life again. When he steps in and sings in the
greeting song is when all the happiness really begins to come out. As stated before he added more fullness to the music, showing that everyone was
even happier at this time. The next main song was when the children performed for his party guest. I believe this shows the happiness growing
because of all the people involved in the music and at the end they all sang. This was a greatly happy time for everyone in the movie and is shown
by the depth of the music. At last the most major song that was sung was when they preformed at the festival. This was a huge performance and was
after they were married and everyone was the happiest they have been. The crowd began to sing and cheer and they were performing. When the crowd
comes in the sing it is the fullest music in the whole movie again showing they were the happiest at that moment.
In conclusion, I really enjoyed watching and trying to analyze the music and its meaning in the

How Music Has Influenced Our Lives Essay
Mid Term Essay Sometimes in life people grieve. People feel all kinds of emotions. Music is almost an emotion itself. In my perspective music can
be an escape, for however long you desire. Music has been call "a way of life" for many human beings. Somehow, it has made a large influence on the
world. I can think of many instances where music has influenced my life. Music effects our everyday lives and can almost be an incomprehensive
predicament. Music today is powerful and has a lot more meaning than just sounds and words. Music is so powerful that it has the power to
manipulate and influence individuals in a positive or negative way. There is so much meaning behind music the lyrics nowadays. Music can tell an
artist life story, things they have been through, and even their opinion on certain views. The most powerful function of music, however, is its ability to
express our emotions, thoughts, and feelings. Music has been so important to me, I would venture to say that without it, I would not be alive. As
someone diagnosed with bi–polar disorder, or more commonly known as manic depression, I have been prone to very wide and potentially dangerous
mood swings. These moods and the emotions associated with them, although often times irrational, were nonetheless extremely powerful. Emotions
that powerful had to be released and expressed to the outside world. I like many teenagers, found that to express myself with words was far too
difficult and frustrating. I found a way to

Descriptive Essay About A Song
One day during my sophomore year of high school while I was waiting for my class to start, I decided to explore new genres of music and artists that
I haven't listened to before. I was sitting on the floor outside of my classroom searching through Spotify for something new and exciting. After looking
through the Classic Rock section on Spotify, I came across the band Queen. Since that moment, I have been and avid Queen listener and have listened
to all their songs. I have been particularly fond of their albums The Game, The Miracle and Night at the Opera.
The first Queen song I heard was Bohemian Rhapsody from the album Night at the Opera. It was around 7:45 am, the morning was very still and
quiet and the sky was clear. My surroundings became increasingly louder as the school day was about to begin and it was a cool morning unlike the
typical Floridian morning weather. After scrolling through various Queen songs on Spotify, I stumbled upon as song I have heard about through
friends but not listened to: Bohemian Rhapsody. Just like the eerily still morning, the exposition of the song was smooth and relaxed. The beginning
of the song sounded like there were many voices in harmony and the hazy, smooth timbre resonated in my ear buds. The lyrics of the song matched
with the eerie quality of the voices, the lyrics indicate that the singers are in some state of confusion and are unclear of their surroundings. The singers

Michael Jackson – "Beat It"
In 2009, we lost one of the greatest entertainers in music history, however his music still lives on, inspiring and touching people's heart. I have
always been a fan of Michael Jackson, and the reason why I picked this song is because it presents a strong message. Not only did
Jackson make a powerful statement with his lyrics, he also made one with his choice of rhythm and beats. The guitars and drums that were used, give
the song a dramatic rock vibe. According to music critics Jackson's album Thriller seemed to be inspired by "a mixture of several genres which
previously were never combined" ( thrilleralbum). It is pretty obvious...show more content...
The second verse talks about making the right choice to just go away instead of shedding blood, and trying to be a tough guy. The third verse simply
describes that even if one chooses to walk away, it is better to be alive than to risk it. The fourth verse in my opinion talks about the consequences of
fighting and that if one chooses to be violent, chances are that they will get hurt.
As mentioned earlier the chorus defines to just walk away although "No One wants To Be
Defeated." It is better to go because in the end "It Doesn't Matter Who is Wrong Or Right."
Jackson uses very powerful words and explains that it is always best to look out for yourself instead of proving yourself to others. It is not worth the
struggle (songfacts).
As I was analyzing the song, I was listening for specific sounds and noises that would symbolize the meaning of the song. I heard a police siren
which could symbolize that if you get involved with gangs and violence, you will end up in jail. I also heard a snapping sound and deep breathing
sounds. The breathing sounds could represent the sound of someone running away and catching a breath. I could detect sounds as if someone was
getting punched and sounds of blades which could represent a fight. While searching for different meanings of the song I came across an interesting

My Music Song Essay
Music has always been a very important part of my life. Through music I have been able to learn more about myself than I ever thought possible.
My taste in music has changed exponentially over the years and I have curated my current music library to fit who I am today and who I would
like to be tomorrow. The music that I have picked reflects who I am in many ways and reflects the different aspects of my life. These songs showcase
the way I view my life, myself, and my dreams. This is a mixtape of five songs that I have carefully selected to represent who I am, where I am, who I
love, who I was, and where I want to be.
The first song that I have chosen is "Pendulum" by FKA twigs. I feel that this song conveys who I am through the lyrics and the tone. Pendulum is
very calming and in some ways almost melancholic. While the song has a theme heavy of love and loss, when I hear the song I relate it to my life
and my relations overall. The song speaks of wanting to be loved and appreciated by people and never receiving what you put in, something I know
all too well. The song is incredibly defining for me because it represents the calm in me and that I don't enjoy hectic life.
"Is This Happiness" by Lana Del Rey is the next song that I have chosen. In this song, the artist is seeking false happiness in a place where they aren't
truly happy. This is an accurate representation of where I am in my life at the moment because it is as though I am always looking for something that

Essay About Song Lyrics
Have you ever had them days where you're so upset, but don't want to tell anyone about it? I certainly have, and fortunately I found a way to
express myself comfortablely; writing song lyrics. This may sound cliche but writing lyrics has always been a big stress reliever for me when i'm
feeling rather down. According to my mom, when I was 4, I would hum when I was upset and by age 6, I started writing song lyrics about how I
was upset and why. I feel writing song lyrics has helped me come a long way, but all of this may lead many of you to wonder, 'How do you write
song lyrics?' The idea of songwriting all ties back to one common interest, music. Song lyrics wouldn't even exist if the idea of music wasn't created.
Some of the first lyrics all originated from thoughts about wars, the Great Depression, presidents, immigration, and much more. People would mostly
express their emotions, much like they do today, on events that occurred and had huge impacts on people. The only difference between lyrics then and

Short Story And Song Comparison Essay
The story and the song used in this comparison are "The Old Man and the Sea" by Ernest Hemingway and "Stronger" by Kelly Clarkson. Both of
them deal with hope and strong urge of motivation. However, they deal with it in a distinctive yet a very similar way. This essay will convey the main
settings, plots, and themes differences between the two pieces.
One of the major differences in the two pieces is the setting and the effect of this difference. In the story, and according to Santiago's relationship with
nature, "the old man and the sea" the events are happening in the rural area beside a sea "The old man lives in a shack made of bud–shields of royal
palm..." (Pg. 15) this describes the fisherman's house and limiting the theme. Meanwhile, the song "Stronger" is in a more general and open setting in
which it sends a theme that could be applied to all life–sort–obstacles. This difference in settings is essential since it affects the theme either making it
too general, or too specific, even though the sea is used as a symbol representing "life".
The plots of the story and the song are completely distinctive. The story is about an old, lonely, and humble fisherman who is having hard times fishing
in the sea. Purposely,...show more content...
If you overcome them, then basically, you become stronger. For instance, in "Stronger" Kelly demonstrates a few examples of obstacles from life,
that are relatable "Doesn't mean I'm over cause you're gone" (line 16) and tells us that they are experiences in which we learn and get wiser from.
This is similar to the story "the old man and the sea" in which the fisherman is motivating him every day to try harder and continue hoping. Basically,
if the obstacles put you down, you've basically made no growth or progress. But if it doesn't kill you, you've grown

The Blues Music Essay examples
Different from other forms of music, blues was only recorded by memory and passed down through generations through live performances. The blues
began in the North Mississippi Delta post Civil War times. It was heavily influenced by African roots, field hollers, ballads, church music and rhythmic
dance tunes called jump–ups. This eventually developed into music that was set up in a call–and– response way so that the singer would sing a line
and he would then respond with his guitar. The blues, a uniquely American art form, was born on the dusty street corners of the Deep South in the late
1800s. An evolution of West African music brought to the United States by slaves, created the blues which was a way for black people in the south

This type of repetition is very common in blues composition and often resembles a form of story telling as blues music often provides an additional
narrative within the song usually dealing with the hardships of life. Similar to the drums, the remainder of the instruments come together to create
tension, which is then followed by release. The guitar often works in unison with the vocals, acting as a lead in the composition. Lastly, blues songs
are usually set up in a 12–bar–structure, which is divided into three segments of four bars. These 12 bars are generally made up of three chords, whose
main notes are based on the first, fourth, and fifth notes of an eight–note–scale. Additionally, one may find certain notes that are slightly flatted, which
are known as "blue notes". Blues songs are typically played in a 4/4 time signature, meaning that four beats are found in each measure.
The blues is home to many world famous artists such as Riley B. King, also known as B.B King, and McKinley Morganfield, also known as
Muddy Waters. These artists were two very good examples of what the blues is meant to incorporate and their legacy has and will live long passed
their deaths. B.B King is an American blue musician, singer, songwriter and guitarist, born on September 16th, 1925 in Beclair, Mississippi. He is
considered to be one of the most influential blues musicians of all times, giving him the nicknames "The King of the Blues" as

How Music Has Impacted My Life Essay
Music has always played an important role in my life. Even as a student of film, I tell stories inspired by song lyrics, for the words, rhythms, and
instruments of rock music have impacted my life to an unimaginable extent. Whenever I edit video, the underscore is vital. When I write a script,
there 's a poetic sound, a lyricism to the dialogue. I would not even be here in Los Angeles if not for artists such as Courtney Love and Jared Leto,
who cross boundaries between music and film. In particular, Jared Leto 's career is something to behold. An award–winning actor, director, musician,
and pure artist, Leto epitomizes my creative values: never settle, and don 't be afraid to be dedicated to whatever you want to do.
Origins
Born in Louisiana, Jared Leto attended University of the Arts in Philadelphia to pursue painting. However, he eventually dropped out and studied
acting in NYC. He then transitioned to California to begin his career music ("Jared Leto: Biography"). His big break in acting came from the short

years progressed, Leto found success in both artistic avenues.
Leto's last film of the 2000s, Mr. Nobody (2009), was met with critical accolades, but marked the beginning of his hiatus from film. In 2013, Leto

be hard full of hate and anger but some songs were mellow with sad heart filled lyrics. If it weren't for these songs to write I you would not be
sitting here reading my paper. The girls in high school were also a reason for writing songs and playing trumpet. In all of my high school all my
relationships I was cheated on. This caused for harsh break ups, uncalled for arguments, and an untrusting Nick Henry. High school years where
trying times and if it wasn't for my music things would not have turned out they way they have. Music equals life, or the saying goes. I feel if I
had dropped out of band I would have missed out on a great experience. The ability to play music is something that will live on in you for the rest
of your life. Unlike playing a sport you can't ever get worn out or injured and lose the talent. All through school I played sports from baseball to
soccer, sure it was fun but it was never my calling, but just being able to play music for a live audience is a feeling that is so amazing there are not
enough

Song Of Solomon Essay

  • 1. Song of Solomon Essay Toni Morrison's novel, Song of Solomon, encompasses many themes that were prevalent in the other novels written in the same time period. Morrison produced this novel in 1977 just as racial issues and discrimination were at its peaks. "She [Morrison] was the first African American to receive the Noble Prize in Literature." (Milliman 5) However, the setting of the story is in the 1930s when World War II was taking place. The novel is based on an African–American family residing in Michigan who are victims of racism and social discrimination. The story focuses on Milkman Dead, the main character, who is naГЇve and leaves his family and friends behind to become an independent, wealthy upperclassman. "Milkman discovers the intricacies of his...show more content... Milkman does not have a life of his own and cannot say that he is independent. Milkman is about to leave his family behind when Macon Jr. informs him of a green bag in Pilate's home that is full of gold. Milkman and his best friend Guitar Bains go to Pilate's house to steal the gold so he and his father can become wealthy. Guitar can be described as an extremist and is part of the Seven Days organization. When an African American in the community is murdered, members of the Seven Days retaliate by putting a white person to death the same way the African American was murdered. As Guitar's grandmother said to him, "A nigger in business is a terrible thing to see. A terrible, terrible thing to see." (Morrison 22). This was intended towards Milkman's father and what type of a business man he was; always being selfish and greedy for wealth. This is how Milkman realizes how his race plays a role in society. Pilate is Milkman's aunt who treats him as her own son and is protective over him. Unfortunately for Milkman and Guitar, they did not find gold but they found Milkman's grandfather's bones. This triggers Milkman and he finally leaves his home in search for gold in an old Pennsylvania farm. Although he has left home to become wealthy, his family is still on his mind. When he is unable to find any gold in the cave of the Pennsylvania farm, he starts to think about his family history. In Pennsylvania on his family's farm, Milkman meets Circe, a woman who helped deliver Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Past: Happy– Pharrell Williams In the song "Happy" by Pharrell Williams, the message in the song is to always be happy, and that the sky is the limit. When I was younger I always had big goals and I still believe it, and I keep reminding myself of the message in the song when I'm upset or angry. When I was younger, I never seemed to enjoy thepresent moment and I was always looking towards the future, and once the future came, I realized that I should've enjoyed the past, and not look at the future, and appreciate what's there in the moment. When I started listening to this song a few years ago, I started hearing the true message in this song, and I started appreciating my life, and enjoying every moment of it. I figured out that the ...show more content... After this experience all of his friends and family told him that his opportunity is over, and to give up his dreams of becoming a successful rapper. He knew he has his chance and he blew it, but he never gave up. A few months later he gets another opportunity to rap in front of a crowd. He knew he had to seize the chance, and to prove everyone wrong. The song comes on, and it describes how he's feeling before he goes on stage. He uses sentences like, "his palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy. He's nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready to drop bombs..." He is telling himself that if he blows this, his dream is over, and that "you only get one shot so do not miss your chance to blow, because this opportunity once in a lifetime". When he finally goes on stage, he's feeling nervous, but he's so ambitious to get what he wants, that he starts to rap like no one has ever heard. The crowd was astonished, and knew that his rap was the best they've ever listened to, which kick started his career as a rapper. The song starts out with a piano playing, and then the piano stops, and very fast music comes in, and the rap starts right away. Therapping is intense, because when you're hungry to achieve something you have to act intense about it. • 3. Descriptive Essay About My Favorite Song I am no stranger to the sound of silence, that apathetic conversation I have with myself in my head. I grew up being that weird kid that anyone can pick on because I not dare myself to speak up to the verbal and sometimes even physical violence that occurred outside my comfort zone. In fear of hurting someone's feelings because I knew what it's like to constantly have to be at war with everyone, even yourself. My name is Billy, I was named by my uncle after Billy Joel. My uncle is the man who introduced me to the old classics. My favorite song of all time is "Hotel California" by the Eagles. I've always enjoyed them, ever since I was a little girl. My uncle would play it all the time, and he would sing along. I'd watch him groove to ...show more content... Subsequently, I've met some stoners who seemed more like thugs but, they were pretty chill to smoke with. In this gang of sad boys, one guy would always talk about how much better he was than the rest of the people in this God forsaken town. In fact, he said he would make it big as a rapper. Everytime he would preach about his unrealistic dreams, I would burst out laugh from how stupid he sounded, but who knew he would become famous. To Illustrate how my life went downhill after I became a part of these guys' group, I'm going to chronologically describes the events of my last day on Earth. The man who would talk about his life goals was named Eddie. Eddie had this character that no one else had, him being so outgoing and funny caught my attention. I wouldn't say I developed feelings but I did adopt his mannerism because again, I had no self identity. By doing this we've became close. He'd invite me everywhere he went. He would put me first then all of his friends. To be honest, I felt great getting this much attention. Admittedly, I only hung out with Eddie because of his risky behavior. He was a daredevil in my eyes, and everything he was I wanted to be. Although, Eddie had everybody fooled by his facade but I knew deep down how much of a monster he was. On a cool Saturday night, Eddie invited me to a ghetto party at a shady, crime filled neighborhood. I stupidly accept his invitation, and we drove to the place. As soon as we get there, my gut started turning. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. The Song Analysis Of 'We Are The World' In 1984, an iconic song was created by two sensational artists Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. A song they created inspired millions, originally created for people of Africa during the time of a horrific famine, was later recreated for the earthquake of Haiti. And for many years our world has been through so much trauma, trauma such as diseases, shootings, and devastating natural disasters. That song we know as "We Are The World " created such an inspiring notion that sparks to change our perspective of the world, how it is ours the children like Jackson said' " We are the world, we are the children" meaning we are all connected and the lyrics of this song represents that. When I listen to this song it gives a sense of hope, hope that everything will be alright. The songs sends out a powerful message that anyone and everyone can help and make a difference in the world. The style of this song is so powerful it's an eclectic style of many incredible genres such as; gospel, rock, hip–hop, R&B etc. many of the famous artists of this song were called the United Support Of Artists for Africa, despite their musical differences came together and created a moving and inspirational meaningful song. That touched millions around the world, even today it's still an iconic song to plenty such as myself connected to the world through those powerful lyrics, when Jackson wrote, " Although this song was originally made for the horrific famine in Africa, and was later recreated in 2010 Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. What Is My Favorite Song Essay As I always listen to variety of music all over the world, so I have many favorite songs that always dancing in my mind. However I will include these five special, meaningful songs in my mix tape. The first one is Hey Soul Sister by Train. Actually the lyrics of this song does not have special meaning for me but the song itself reminds me 6 years of being a student who stayed in boarding school with a lot of amazing friends. My friends and I loved to sing this song whenever we felt stress or lazy to study as it is very catchy and have beautiful, harmony melody. Sometimes, we sang this song for many times as loud as we can until our voice became husky. Whenever, I remind all what we had done or listening to Hey Soul Sister again, I will smile and laugh to myself as it reminds me to my teens life. I also will...show more content... As this song is originally written by him, it gave deep impact not just to my mind but to my heart too. Actually the singer of this song, Kim Jonghung passed away recently as he committed suicide due to the depression that he suffered for quite long time. After knowing about that news, I heard this song for one more time and I ended up crying like crazy for almost one hour and over. It is because the lyrics and melody of the song really deep and full of sorrow. Actually I am the one who not really cry just for a song or movie, but this is my first time having this experience. I just realized after his death that most the song that sang and written by him are related to his depression. It looks like he wanted to convey his feeling through the song as he such a cheerful guy in front of cameras. Unfortunately, most of his friend and fans did not realize that and he chose that ways to end up his depression and loneliness. This tragedy makes me noticed that we must always concern to people surroundings us as we do not know what is inside their Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Personal Essay: Song Analysis My passion for music really didn't kick in until I wrote my first song. I had been playing guitar for about 6 years, but until my pen hit the paper I never experienced how cathartic music can be. It allowed me to escape from the crazy and stressful world and bleed everything I was feeling onto the page or over the strings. I have written close to 40 songs and each one has a special place in my heart for a specific time in my life. The stories I tell in my songs allow me to step into the shoes of someone else, or perhaps make my own fit just a little more snug. I like to find energetic riffs and sometimes quirky lyrics that inspire me to look at life a differently or find value in things or moments that are normally overlooked. As I build my following I hope to give listeners what my songs have given me–a three minute hiatus from everything else. Hopefully that three minutes can last them a life time....show more content... I transferred here to pursue music after completing three years of a biology degree at Bethel University in Minnesota. Through Bethel, I did a music study abroad program in Nashville that changed my life and connected me with my true passion. My faith is really what fueled me these past few years. It has influenced me to take life with open arms, to relax, and to remember that God's got me. I like to use the idea of guidance and perseverance as a common theme in a lot of my writing. Its important for people to fight for what they want while trusting in the larger plan, and with each song I write I remind myself of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Song Comparison Essay Matthew ChungChung 1 Ms. Spilberg ENG2D1 March 5, 2013 Song Comparison Essay The road of life can be a bumpy one. There will always be twists and turns that can alter a person's life, changing the course of their destination. Even though life can be tough, you have to draw upon your inner strength in order to persevere. The songs, "Move Along" by The All–American Rejects and "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" by Greenday sing about this message. The lyrics in their songs have manyliterary devices such as personification, repetition, symbolism and juxtaposition. The personification will help you...show more content... The theme is how when you have a tough, important moment in life, you have to make the best of it and move along. An image for these lyrics will help you connect to the theme because you can see what is going on and a picture will help you understand something more. In my next paragraph, I will be talking about how the singers used repetition to emphasize certain points. In these songs, lyrics were repeated. Repetition draws the listener's attention to particular words or phrases. In the song, Time of Your Life, the singer repeats the line, "It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right. I hope you had the time of your life." This line is repeated throughout the song multiple times. The singer is emphasizing the fact that anything can happen when you make your choice but in the end, you have to just relax and be happy. He wants the audience to really understand it. In the other song, the line, "Move along, move along. Just to make it through" The singer is repeating the term, "Move along" because that is the main message in this song. It is to move along when things seem bad. The singer wants the audience to really get the message and to feel good when they relate to this song. These lines connect to the theme because they are talking about moving on in tough situations and being satisfied with the outcome. These lyrics were emphasized well. Besides repetition, the singers also used symbols and juxtaposition to Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The song 1–800 by Logic sets a scene of a boy who goes through life and struggles with being gay, bullied, and suicidal thoughts. Which leads to a call to the 1–800 suicide hotline. The video takes a turn and ends happily with the main actor being married and surrounded by family and friends. The main point that this song displays is that suicide is a real problem and it portrays that through stressing the importance of accepting everyone. My main points in this paper are the content of the video, the sound and pace, how this piece affects today's society, what modes of persuasion are used. The content of the video and the song itself overall is good in the beginning the sound and pace starts with an actor humming he's the father of the main actor in the video. Then it brings in some soft instrumentals for about 30 seconds. Then for about the first minute it is a soft smooth voice that you hear from Logic. As Logic begins to pick up the pace the video also picks up the pace as you start going through the main actors' life at a quicker pace. You watch the main actor storm out of his house after his father finds a gay magazine. Then suddenly, the singing stops and the instruments carry on softly. The singing stops because it is a crucial part of the video and it wants you to pay attention. The main actor was staying at his boyfriend's house and his boyfriends dad knocks on the door and finds them in bed together so the main actor grabs his stuff and gets escorted out of the house. This part of the video is a little confusing though since the father doesn't seem to forcibly remove him. The main actor just kind of up and leaves. I think the main actor leaves willingly because he's embarrassed that he got caught with him. The father the whole time giving off a confused state. When the singing comes back in its one of the featured artist on the song. While she sings the main actor appears to walk through life in a state of depression. Then logic comes back in and continues sing with a smooth flow. While the main actor begins to get bullied cause, his classmates Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. The Sound of Music Essay The Sound of Music The Sound of Music relied on orchestral background and multiple solo opera parts. I slightly remember watching The Sound of Music years ago, and dreaded watching it again. Watching it this time was different as I remember. As I'm beginning to have a basic appreciation for music I really enjoyed it much more. When I really paid attention to the music and the words being sung it told the whole movie. I also think that the fullness of the music also depicts something as well. I believe that just the music could tell the movie without seeing anything at all. It begins with her singing by herself in the mountains The Hills are Filled with Music, which in the end as they are escaping after becoming a musical family, it...show more content... In this song their was fullness in the music. She was singing along with seven kids. Five of which had the female parts and the male parts. This is when she began to realize where she belonged and her purpose for being there. She was sent to live with the Captain where he didn't want music in his house. He was depressed and saddened with no music. When the music came out the first time you could tell from his reaction that it had sparked excitement and happiness in his life again. When he steps in and sings in the greeting song is when all the happiness really begins to come out. As stated before he added more fullness to the music, showing that everyone was even happier at this time. The next main song was when the children performed for his party guest. I believe this shows the happiness growing because of all the people involved in the music and at the end they all sang. This was a greatly happy time for everyone in the movie and is shown by the depth of the music. At last the most major song that was sung was when they preformed at the festival. This was a huge performance and was after they were married and everyone was the happiest they have been. The crowd began to sing and cheer and they were performing. When the crowd comes in the sing it is the fullest music in the whole movie again showing they were the happiest at that moment. In conclusion, I really enjoyed watching and trying to analyze the music and its meaning in the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. How Music Has Influenced Our Lives Essay Mid Term Essay Sometimes in life people grieve. People feel all kinds of emotions. Music is almost an emotion itself. In my perspective music can be an escape, for however long you desire. Music has been call "a way of life" for many human beings. Somehow, it has made a large influence on the world. I can think of many instances where music has influenced my life. Music effects our everyday lives and can almost be an incomprehensive predicament. Music today is powerful and has a lot more meaning than just sounds and words. Music is so powerful that it has the power to manipulate and influence individuals in a positive or negative way. There is so much meaning behind music the lyrics nowadays. Music can tell an artist life story, things they have been through, and even their opinion on certain views. The most powerful function of music, however, is its ability to express our emotions, thoughts, and feelings. Music has been so important to me, I would venture to say that without it, I would not be alive. As someone diagnosed with bi–polar disorder, or more commonly known as manic depression, I have been prone to very wide and potentially dangerous mood swings. These moods and the emotions associated with them, although often times irrational, were nonetheless extremely powerful. Emotions that powerful had to be released and expressed to the outside world. I like many teenagers, found that to express myself with words was far too difficult and frustrating. I found a way to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Descriptive Essay About A Song One day during my sophomore year of high school while I was waiting for my class to start, I decided to explore new genres of music and artists that I haven't listened to before. I was sitting on the floor outside of my classroom searching through Spotify for something new and exciting. After looking through the Classic Rock section on Spotify, I came across the band Queen. Since that moment, I have been and avid Queen listener and have listened to all their songs. I have been particularly fond of their albums The Game, The Miracle and Night at the Opera. The first Queen song I heard was Bohemian Rhapsody from the album Night at the Opera. It was around 7:45 am, the morning was very still and quiet and the sky was clear. My surroundings became increasingly louder as the school day was about to begin and it was a cool morning unlike the typical Floridian morning weather. After scrolling through various Queen songs on Spotify, I stumbled upon as song I have heard about through friends but not listened to: Bohemian Rhapsody. Just like the eerily still morning, the exposition of the song was smooth and relaxed. The beginning of the song sounded like there were many voices in harmony and the hazy, smooth timbre resonated in my ear buds. The lyrics of the song matched with the eerie quality of the voices, the lyrics indicate that the singers are in some state of confusion and are unclear of their surroundings. The singers hold the last word of each verse for a beat longer than Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Essay on Song Analysis Micheal Jackson- Beat It Selina Pearl Professor Finch English 109 03 August 2010 Michael Jackson – "Beat It" In 2009, we lost one of the greatest entertainers in music history, however his music still lives on, inspiring and touching people's heart. I have always been a fan of Michael Jackson, and the reason why I picked this song is because it presents a strong message. Not only did Jackson make a powerful statement with his lyrics, he also made one with his choice of rhythm and beats. The guitars and drums that were used, give the song a dramatic rock vibe. According to music critics Jackson's album Thriller seemed to be inspired by "a mixture of several genres which previously were never combined" ( thrilleralbum). It is pretty obvious...show more content... The second verse talks about making the right choice to just go away instead of shedding blood, and trying to be a tough guy. The third verse simply describes that even if one chooses to walk away, it is better to be alive than to risk it. The fourth verse in my opinion talks about the consequences of fighting and that if one chooses to be violent, chances are that they will get hurt. As mentioned earlier the chorus defines to just walk away although "No One wants To Be Defeated." It is better to go because in the end "It Doesn't Matter Who is Wrong Or Right." Jackson uses very powerful words and explains that it is always best to look out for yourself instead of proving yourself to others. It is not worth the struggle (songfacts). As I was analyzing the song, I was listening for specific sounds and noises that would symbolize the meaning of the song. I heard a police siren which could symbolize that if you get involved with gangs and violence, you will end up in jail. I also heard a snapping sound and deep breathing sounds. The breathing sounds could represent the sound of someone running away and catching a breath. I could detect sounds as if someone was getting punched and sounds of blades which could represent a fight. While searching for different meanings of the song I came across an interesting Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. My Music Song Essay Music has always been a very important part of my life. Through music I have been able to learn more about myself than I ever thought possible. My taste in music has changed exponentially over the years and I have curated my current music library to fit who I am today and who I would like to be tomorrow. The music that I have picked reflects who I am in many ways and reflects the different aspects of my life. These songs showcase the way I view my life, myself, and my dreams. This is a mixtape of five songs that I have carefully selected to represent who I am, where I am, who I love, who I was, and where I want to be. The first song that I have chosen is "Pendulum" by FKA twigs. I feel that this song conveys who I am through the lyrics and the tone. Pendulum is very calming and in some ways almost melancholic. While the song has a theme heavy of love and loss, when I hear the song I relate it to my life and my relations overall. The song speaks of wanting to be loved and appreciated by people and never receiving what you put in, something I know all too well. The song is incredibly defining for me because it represents the calm in me and that I don't enjoy hectic life. "Is This Happiness" by Lana Del Rey is the next song that I have chosen. In this song, the artist is seeking false happiness in a place where they aren't truly happy. This is an accurate representation of where I am in my life at the moment because it is as though I am always looking for something that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Essay About Song Lyrics Have you ever had them days where you're so upset, but don't want to tell anyone about it? I certainly have, and fortunately I found a way to express myself comfortablely; writing song lyrics. This may sound cliche but writing lyrics has always been a big stress reliever for me when i'm feeling rather down. According to my mom, when I was 4, I would hum when I was upset and by age 6, I started writing song lyrics about how I was upset and why. I feel writing song lyrics has helped me come a long way, but all of this may lead many of you to wonder, 'How do you write song lyrics?' The idea of songwriting all ties back to one common interest, music. Song lyrics wouldn't even exist if the idea of music wasn't created. Some of the first lyrics all originated from thoughts about wars, the Great Depression, presidents, immigration, and much more. People would mostly express their emotions, much like they do today, on events that occurred and had huge impacts on people. The only difference between lyrics then and now is, back then lyrics were more...show more content... Lyrics in the music business have always been a popular 'trend' since music was first created. • 15. Short Story And Song Comparison Essay The story and the song used in this comparison are "The Old Man and the Sea" by Ernest Hemingway and "Stronger" by Kelly Clarkson. Both of them deal with hope and strong urge of motivation. However, they deal with it in a distinctive yet a very similar way. This essay will convey the main settings, plots, and themes differences between the two pieces. One of the major differences in the two pieces is the setting and the effect of this difference. In the story, and according to Santiago's relationship with nature, "the old man and the sea" the events are happening in the rural area beside a sea "The old man lives in a shack made of bud–shields of royal palm..." (Pg. 15) this describes the fisherman's house and limiting the theme. Meanwhile, the song "Stronger" is in a more general and open setting in which it sends a theme that could be applied to all life–sort–obstacles. This difference in settings is essential since it affects the theme either making it too general, or too specific, even though the sea is used as a symbol representing "life". The plots of the story and the song are completely distinctive. The story is about an old, lonely, and humble fisherman who is having hard times fishing in the sea. Purposely,...show more content... This is similar to the story "the old man and the sea" in which the fisherman is motivating him every day to try harder and continue hoping. Basically, if the obstacles put you down, you've basically made no growth or progress. But if it doesn't kill you, you've grown Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. The Blues Music Essay examples Different from other forms of music, blues was only recorded by memory and passed down through generations through live performances. The blues began in the North Mississippi Delta post Civil War times. It was heavily influenced by African roots, field hollers, ballads, church music and rhythmic dance tunes called jump–ups. This eventually developed into music that was set up in a call–and– response way so that the singer would sing a line and he would then respond with his guitar. The blues, a uniquely American art form, was born on the dusty street corners of the Deep South in the late 1800s. An evolution of West African music brought to the United States by slaves, created the blues which was a way for black people in the south ...show more content... This type of repetition is very common in blues composition and often resembles a form of story telling as blues music often provides an additional narrative within the song usually dealing with the hardships of life. Similar to the drums, the remainder of the instruments come together to create tension, which is then followed by release. The guitar often works in unison with the vocals, acting as a lead in the composition. Lastly, blues songs are usually set up in a 12–bar–structure, which is divided into three segments of four bars. These 12 bars are generally made up of three chords, whose main notes are based on the first, fourth, and fifth notes of an eight–note–scale. Additionally, one may find certain notes that are slightly flatted, which are known as "blue notes". Blues songs are typically played in a 4/4 time signature, meaning that four beats are found in each measure. The blues is home to many world famous artists such as Riley B. King, also known as B.B King, and McKinley Morganfield, also known as Muddy Waters. These artists were two very good examples of what the blues is meant to incorporate and their legacy has and will live long passed their deaths. B.B King is an American blue musician, singer, songwriter and guitarist, born on September 16th, 1925 in Beclair, Mississippi. He is considered to be one of the most influential blues musicians of all times, giving him the nicknames "The King of the Blues" as Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. A Rhetorical Analysis Of Song Lyrics I'm inspired by this song to keep my head up high, not to give up so easily. Reading the lyrics and taking notice in the music introduced me to a different concept, despite how hard times can get, someone else is having a tough time also. I've found interest in her overall message, sharing her struggle and hurt with her audience brings a deeper connection, other than singing a song she has no relation with. Her experience with hurt spoke to me as a fellow singer, it encouraged my life lessons from past hurts to say a little pray, and depend solely on faith. Hope, and faith which will assist me along through my low valley of hurt. • 18. How Music Has Impacted My Life Essay Music has always played an important role in my life. Even as a student of film, I tell stories inspired by song lyrics, for the words, rhythms, and instruments of rock music have impacted my life to an unimaginable extent. Whenever I edit video, the underscore is vital. When I write a script, there 's a poetic sound, a lyricism to the dialogue. I would not even be here in Los Angeles if not for artists such as Courtney Love and Jared Leto, who cross boundaries between music and film. In particular, Jared Leto 's career is something to behold. An award–winning actor, director, musician, and pure artist, Leto epitomizes my creative values: never settle, and don 't be afraid to be dedicated to whatever you want to do. Origins Born in Louisiana, Jared Leto attended University of the Arts in Philadelphia to pursue painting. However, he eventually dropped out and studied acting in NYC. He then transitioned to California to begin his career music ("Jared Leto: Biography"). His big break in acting came from the short lived, yet critically lauded TV series, My So Called Life (1994). Four years later, he became lead singer for his rock band, 30 Seconds to Mars. As the years progressed, Leto found success in both artistic avenues. Leto's last film of the 2000s, Mr. Nobody (2009), was met with critical accolades, but marked the beginning of his hiatus from film. In 2013, Leto returned in full swing with his supporting role in Dallas Buyer's Club (2013). A commercial and critical Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Music in My Life Essay Music, it's a part of everyone's life. From childhood sing–a–long songs, to garage grunge music, and everything in between music is everywhere. Growing up with an extremely musical background it was in my genes that I would become a musician. Playing music has helped me become the person I am by being a release for my anger, broadening my future and make new friends.. I first joined the band in the fourth grade playing the drums. I played for about two weeks then I quit because I didn't like it, mostly because of the teacher. In the sixth grade we got a new music teacher and told me I look like a trumpet player, so I gave it a try. I was taking music lessons but after the first one my music teacher told me she had to leave because she...show more content... If it weren't for these songs to write I you would not be sitting here reading my paper. The girls in high school were also a reason for writing songs and playing trumpet. In all of my high school all my relationships I was cheated on. This caused for harsh break ups, uncalled for arguments, and an untrusting Nick Henry. I feel if I had dropped out of band I would have missed out on a great experience. The ability to play music is something that will live on in you for the rest of your life. Unlike playing a sport you can't ever get worn out or injured and lose the talent. All through school I played sports from baseball to soccer, sure it was fun but it was never my calling, but just being able to play music for a live audience is a feeling that is so amazing there are not enough Get more content on HelpWriting.net
