This garbage from our homes and places of work often doesn't make it to the landfill and instead ends up in our rivers and lakes. When it does make it
to the landfills, it is often burned in incinerators in the more–developed areas, whereas in the less–developed countries it ends up in an open dump. In
those countries, the public often goes and picks through the waste to see if they can find anything to recycle, reuse, or even sell. The "more–developed

There is an extreme amount of garbage in the ocean. The NOAA describes marine debris as, "any persistent solid material that is manufactured or
processed and directly or indirectly, intentionally or unintentionally, disposed of or abandoned into the marine environment or the Great Lakes"
(Discover the Issue, n.d.). Human waste that is polluting the ocean creates garbage patches, effects marine animals, and damages ocean environments.
Pollution in the ocean is out of control and humans should be more conscious of how we are affecting 70% of the planet. The mass amount of
pollution in the ocean is terrible yet completely preventable. Some organizations are trying to help reduce the impact of marine debris and they are doing
the best with the resources that they have. The government needs to pass more laws that stop ocean dumping and help the clean–up effort of our
earth's oceans.
All different types of marine debris are in oceans all over the world. Researchers have found plastics and garbage swirling around in parts of the ocean
and even in rocks (Campbell, 2017). "Anything man–made, including litter and fishing gear, can become marine debris once lost or thrown into the
marine environment" (Types and Sources, n.d.). The garbage in the ocean stems from our everyday products like fast food containers, plastic bags,
drinking straws, soda bottles, and many other items. Humans have produced more plastic in the last ten years than we have in the last 100 years (How

As I look out at the beautiful ocean, the silky sand and gorgeous seashells lay underneath my feet. The blue waves crashing down onto the shore.
The ocean is truly a beautiful sight to see. However, we are slowly ruining this beautiful thing because of the way we treat this planet, the ocean is
extremely polluted and marine life is paying for it. A few of the ways mankind is damaging marine life is by heavy oil pollution, and exposing
marine life to dangerous chemicals. One way our oceans are polluted is because big companies like Princesses Cruises are caught "accidentally"
dumping oil into the sea. In 2013 the Caribbean Princess Cruise Ship was caught illegally spilling 4,227 gallons of oily water off the coast of England
and records say they have been doing this since 2005 (Department of Justice) In an oil spill the majority of the oil tends to float and clump at the
surface. Which harms wildlife because mammals who hunt fish need the surface clear in order to catch their prey. In addition to that, if the oil
were to enters the water column the fish and other creatures will be greatly affected. The oil will cause reproductive damage in adult fish and will
decrease their growth drastically. Also, if the fish eggs and larvae come in contact with oil could cause death or lower their survival rate greatly.
On top of that, the most damage to wildlife is done when the oil washes on the shores because of the damaging effects it has to birds that live on or
by the shore. With birds the oil will destroy the water repealing and insulating ability that there feathers have. This leaves them to be fully exposed
to the harsh substance causing them to die of hypothermia. The oil has such a harmful effect that National Geographic said "99 percent of
rehabilitated birds will die anyway as a result of oil exposure"(National Geographic). Furthermore, the majority of the oil has been in the ocean since
2005. Usually with accidents like oil spills the government tries to clean them up as fast as possible by using dispersants and other cleaning methods.
However with the oil sitting in the ocean for years there is no telling how many birds and animals were harmed. With the government not being aware

The Pollution Prevention Act 1990 (PPA) came into existence in order to raise the interest in reducingpollution from the source or in another word
Pollution Prevention in a way which encourages efficient cost reduction practice from the source.
This policy by the United State according to this act mandated that pollution be prevented and most especially reduced from the source. It further
states that, in an instance where pollution in unavoidably or unable to be prevented, then recycling of such waste should be done considering the safety
and well being of the environment and the people. In a case where it is not possible to prevent pollution or recycled, such need to be treated in a safe
manner to protect to reduce any hazardous environment (Burnett, 2000).
The act explains source reduction as such practice that will reduce the quality of all hazardous substance, pollution or any contaminant that enters waste
stream or that is released to the environment before it is recycled, treated or disposed. It is a means to reduce any hazards caused to the health of the

One possible way to control the carcinogenic pollutant is to get a bill passed by Congress, which makes it mandatory for industrial places to reduce the
amount of pollution they create. By reducing the amount of pollution production, the exposure level of the carcinogenic pollutant will decrease. This
law enforces the industrial companies to establish new methods and strategies to create their products with less pollution distribution in the end. As
another preventive measure, there are products available to the population that contains carcinogenic elements that can be taken off the market until
