Legalizing Marijuana
Marijuana legalization is a contentious issue with significant
implications for individuals and society. Little has changed in
recent years regarding this issue, but a long-term shift in the
related debate has continued to shape the dominant views
(Adler, 2020). People are increasingly favouring marijuana
legalization, with over half of the U.S. population favouring
legalization (Adler, 2020, p. 134). The reversal in perspectives
on marijuana reflects changing attitudes to the underlying issues
such as the health effects of the substance, social impacts, and
religious underpinnings. Writing essay help shows that
proponents highlight the therapeutic aspects of marijuana and
its role in promoting health. Opponents suggest the potentially
serious health and social effects of this substance.
The potential positive medical impact of marijuana is one of the
strongest arguments advanced to support legalization. The
health benefits of medical marijuana, including pain relief,
foster health outcomes for patients. Legalizing marijuana on
medical grounds alone overlooks the negative social impacts
(research paper). This substance increases the risk of road
accidents and social isolation (Adler, 2020). It is necessary to
adopt measures that address the potential negative impacts to
ensure that legalization has a net positive effect on individuals
and society.

Vocational Scenario or Context
You have just joined the software development team of Hot
Digital Web Development as a trainee software developer.
The company specialises in producing websites for
organisations.
You have been asked by the development team to produce a
report on HCI principles of technology advancements. This
report will need to be presented to the development team
Task 1
The software development team manager has requested that you
investigate and consider how developments in technology have
changed the way users make use of, and interact with, computer
systems and the impact this has on society.
Your report should start with an explanation of the principles of
human–computer interaction.
Evaluate how the use of computers has developed from the use
of early computers to today’s interactive devices:
· command line interfaces versus graphical user interfaces
· sense orientation, graphical, speech and touch.
The developments in user interaction in these areas:
· hardware
· screens
· pointing devices
· speech recognition / voice control
· biometrics
· 3D interfaces
· virtual and augmented reality
· artificial intelligence systems.
Evaluate how the interaction between the computer system and
the user is affected by the type of users, device and needs.
· types of users:
· expert users
· regular users
· occasional users
· beginner/novice users
· ergonomics
· health and safety
· demographics:
· age
· education
· cultural issues
· globalisation
· local information systems.
Provide a section on the accessibility features to support a
users’ needs with restricted motor skills.
Evaluate the uses of human–computer interaction in self-
checkout systems and ways in which people interact with
systems such as a touch screen facility.
The impact of human–computer interaction on:
· usability of systems
· social interaction
· cultural impacts
· working patterns and styles in commerce economies.
· assistive technologies in screen magnifiers.
The use and implications of design principles in human–
computer interaction.
· difference between recognition and recall
· screen design for intuitive data entry
· menu selection
· perception:
· gestalt laws of perception
· colour, to include trichromatic system and luminance
· gross 3D shapes.
In the last section of the report you should focus on
Shneiderman’s rules of interface design:
· consistency
· use of shortcuts
· informative feedback
· design dialog to yield closure
· error handling
· reversal of actions
· support internal locus of control
· reduce short-term memory load.
The report should conclude with an evaluation of behavioural
models such as the keystroke level model,
Checklist of evidence required
A report detailing the developments in human–computer
interaction and the effect it has had on society.
Criteria covered by this task:
Unit/Criteria reference
To achieve the criteria you must show that you are able to:
10/A.D1
Evaluate how developments in technology impact on the way
human– computer interaction is used in society and interface
design.
10/A.M1

  • 1. 1 2 Legalizing Marijuana Name Institutional Affiliation Course Title Date Legalizing Marijuana Marijuana legalization is a contentious issue with significant implications for individuals and society. Little has changed in recent years regarding this issue, but a long-term shift in the related debate has continued to shape the dominant views (Adler, 2020). People are increasingly favouring marijuana legalization, with over half of the U.S. population favouring legalization (Adler, 2020, p. 134). The reversal in perspectives on marijuana reflects changing attitudes to the underlying issues such as the health effects of the substance, social impacts, and religious underpinnings. Writing essay help shows that proponents highlight the therapeutic aspects of marijuana and
  • 2. its role in promoting health. Opponents suggest the potentially serious health and social effects of this substance. The potential positive medical impact of marijuana is one of the strongest arguments advanced to support legalization. The health benefits of medical marijuana, including pain relief, foster health outcomes for patients. Legalizing marijuana on medical grounds alone overlooks the negative social impacts (research paper). This substance increases the risk of road accidents and social isolation (Adler, 2020). It is necessary to adopt measures that address the potential negative impacts to ensure that legalization has a net positive effect on individuals and society. Reference Adler, J. H. (Ed.). (2020). This report will need to be presented to the development team Task 1 The software development team manager has requested that you investigate and consider how developments in technology have changed the way users make use of, and interact with, computer systems and the impact this has on society.
  • 4. Your report should start with an explanation of the principles of human–computer interaction. Evaluate how the use of computers has developed from the use of early computers to today’s interactive devices: · command line interfaces versus graphical user interfaces · sense orientation, graphical, speech and touch. The developments in user interaction in these areas: · hardware · screens · pointing devices · speech recognition / voice control · biometrics · 3D interfaces · virtual and augmented reality · artificial intelligence systems. Evaluate how the interaction between the computer system and the user is affected by the type of users, device and needs. · types of users: · expert users · regular users · occasional users · beginner/novice users · ergonomics · health and safety · demographics: · age · education · cultural issues · globalisation · local information systems. Provide a section on the accessibility features to support a users’ needs with restricted motor skills.
  • 5. Evaluate the uses of human–computer interaction in self- checkout systems and ways in which people interact with systems such as a touch screen facility. The impact of human–computer interaction on: · usability of systems · social interaction · cultural impacts · working patterns and styles in commerce economies. · assistive technologies in screen magnifiers. The use and implications of design principles in human– computer interaction. · difference between recognition and recall · screen design for intuitive data entry · menu selection · perception: · gestalt laws of perception · colour, to include trichromatic system and luminance · gross 3D shapes. In the last section of the report you should focus on Shneiderman’s rules of interface design: · consistency · use of shortcuts · informative feedback · design dialog to yield closure · error handling · reversal of actions · support internal locus of control · reduce short-term memory load. The report should conclude with an evaluation of behavioural models such as the keystroke level model, Checklist of evidence required
