Who would be the audience for your media product?
1. WHO WOULD BE THE
AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT?
Question
4
2. My target audience:
young (between 14 – 26)
male and female
interested in the latest
trends
black ethnicity
no religion
3. YOUNG AUDIENCE
My target audience is people between the ages of 14 and 26, as
that is still quite an immature stage of life. I think younger people
will be more interested, because R&B music tends to be quite loud
and the lyrical content is usually sexual-orientated, appealing
more to a younger audience. Also, the clothing and lifestyle
associated with the R&B industry seems too ‘in your face’ for an
older audience. However, it depends on the individuals.
4. MALE AND FEMALE
My target audience is both males and females, as there are
elements of the magazine that would appeal to both genders.
There is the provocative women, the money and the cars element
of the R&B industry that appeals to men. On the other hand,
there is the attractive men, the celebrity lifestyle information and
the beauty regime elements of the industry that appeal to women.
Also, the language is very neutral and there are quotes and stories
that could interest both genders.
5. INTERESTED IN THE LATEST
TRENDS
My target audience is likely to be interested in the latest trends,
such as clothes, technology and music. I think this because the
R&B industry tends to start quite a few of its own trends and
advertise it through many of their artists; and a lot of fans follow
these. For example: Kanye West brought out his own fashion
glasses.
6. BLACK ETHNICITY
My target audience is likely to be people of black ethnicity and
African-American heritage, as most of the music artists and
producers within this industry are black and the lyrical content of
the music tends to include subjects that relate to black people and
their history or where they’ve come from. Also, words such as
‘n*gga’ are frequently used, as they’re associated with that
culture.
7. NO RELIGION
My target audience is likely to be part of no religion, as the lyrical
content and messages behind the music are very rarely associated
with God and religion, and are often about sex and alcohol. Also,
the clothing associated with this industry would be deemed
inappropriate by a religious person, as it is often very revealing.
