1. Chad E. Barney
Network Architect / Network Engineer / Network Security Consultant
I'm based out of San Diego, CA and I'm avail for remote work and travel on an as needed basis. I have been
working on virtual teams for the past 15 years and I have held a Secret Security Clearance for various projects.
I have 20 years experience as a Network Architect / Network Engineer / Network Security Consultant. I've
worked as a network architect & design specialist in large scale ISP environments since 1998: AT&T, Cricket, &
Frontier Communications helping to design deploy and implement next generation backbone, data center, and
wireless data communications.
I am highly familiar with designing networks with and the implementation of Juniper, Cisco, Checkpoint, Palo
Alto, & F5. I just finished up a large installation for an e-commerce customer in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, including
switch and router infrastructure, perimeter firewall placement, internet protection: F5 LTM, GTM, & ASM, URL
Filtering and Threat Prevention, and security zone firewalls using Juniper SRX, Palo Alto, and Checkpoint for
various zones. We also implemented BGP routing for this customer to leverage mutliple ISPs connected to
active-passive firewall configuration at multiple data center sites.
I have over 11 years experience with Load Balancing Platforms: Nortel/Alteon, Brocade ServerIron, Cisco CSS,
ACE & GSS with my primary focusing being on all F5 BIGIP Platforms running LTM, GTM, AFM and ASM, from
planning greenfield installations, to conducting platform upgrades to an existing install base of the F5s. I have
been a subject matter expert on the planning, deployment, and delivery of F5 VIPRIONs for large scale ISP
and Ecommerce installations. Most recently I've been doing a large number of F5 platform upgrades as well as
OS upgrades for local San Diego customers such as Petco, Life Technologies, ID Analytics, Sperion, Capital
Group, and others. I've also been planning for F5 deployments converting from Cisco GSS, CSS and ACE
platforms, along with writing very detailed MOPs and conducting the implementations. I am also involved with a
major vendor refresh for a Global Financial company, migrating away from Cisco ACE onto LTM, and planning
a new GSLB topology with GTM.
I have worked some fairly extensive data center build-outs remotely and have traveled when required to do
design planning, installations and implementations, also when required to do in-depth engineering reviews and
project kick-off meetings, or whenever the customer required subject matter expertise. During my career with
AT&T I was responsible for taking the company from 3 National Data Centers to 52 Global Service Provider
Data Centers across the world. I have designed and built data centers for AT&T Yellowpages.com, Cricket, HP,
Petco, Sempra Global, Spireon, to name a few; this includes conducting discovery of the customers existing
network, understanding the existing install base, gathering business requirements, technical deep dive on
applications and systems requirements, equipment spec, building BOMs and purchasing of equipment, as well
as installation and initial implementations.
From a network architecture and design perspective I would be considered expert level in IP backbone and
Data Center Communications.
I've been designing networks with and installing Cisco ASR9Ks, Nexus data center switches, and ASR1K
platforms most recently. I also have experience in Cisco ACE / GSS and CSS platforms, as well as ASA
firewalls.
As for Juniper I am considered expert level in IP backbone and Data Center Communications, I've been
designing networks with and installing the M and MX series routers, the EXseries switch line, as well as the
large scale SRXfirewalls.
I am highly familiar with AAA Authentication and Authorization on Cisco and RSA Platforms and the Cloud
2. based DUO platform: using TACACS+ or RADIUS on the network devices.
I am also certified in Checkpoint Firewalls as well as trained in Palo Alto firewalls.
I also have the following Expertise:
*Expert Level understanding of VMware vSphere and ESX technologies: VCD, SRM, vCOPS, AutoDeploy,
Distributed Switches
*Strong knowledge of VMware PowerCLI
*Solid understanding of virtual and physical network, storage and security concepts and practices
*Admin Level Understanding of Linux and Windows operating systems and command line operations
*Engineering Level knowledge of data center management concepts, network monitoring tools
design implementation and best practices
*Available for Weekends / After Hours Work: flexible schedule and available to work non-standard business
hours upon request or as needed. Always available via cell phone for issue resolution and assistance after
hours
