Hello, my name is Luc-John. Welcome to the presentation about the Photoshop tutorial
video. I was in a group of three that made the Hove Park School Logo Photoshop tutorial.
The group consisted of me, Dan Jones and Scott Rittman. We chose to make the video
have a documentary style to it.

Because we were a group of three, we had to split up the jobs we had to do in order to
make our video as good looking as possible. So here are the tasks we each had to do.
Dan: He had to make part one of our video, making him very important to our success. Not only
did he do that, he also supplied some of the music and did the captions. Most importantly, he
made the introduction in the video. He kind of took on the role of being the director as well.
Scott: Scott’s role was also very crucial to the success of our video. He had to make the last part
in our video, which also means he had to make the outro and the credits. He was the main
editor of the whole video because he put the final version of the video together and he fixed
the audio of it too.
Me: I had a less important role in our video, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t do anything at all. I
had to make part two of our video, do the captions and the audio in it and I put the first version
of our whole video together.

The brief is what guided us in the making of our videos. It states the rules and
opportunities we would have in this course. Here are several quotes from the
brief.
‘You will be producing resources aimed at Year 9 students who will be coming
up to the Nevill site.’
‘You will have the opportunity to meet professionals working in the industry
and discuss aspects of their work with them.’
‘You will reflect on how you can best acquire and develop these skills from a
personal perspective.’
Some of the ideas we had were to introduce the school gym to the year nines by filming
the video in a documentary theme and how to get used to the upper school quickly. But
we eventually settled on a HPS Logo tutorial.

During the course, we were expected to self assess each of our skills like camera shots and
angles and the rule of thirds. There were five grades you could grade yourself with, 5, which
means you do not know anything about this skill, and was what I graded myself for the first
time. A 4 meant that you have very little knowledge about this skill. A grade 3 meant that you
have some knowledge of this skill and you have improved a lot from a 5 and a 4. A grade 2
means you know quite a lot about this skill, but you still have some room for improvements.
Finally, a grade 1, the highest score you could grade yourself, this meant that you have
acquired all there is to leant about this skill on the course.
Obviously, you get better and better as time goes by and you have been practicing all the time
with these skills by doing them in class and with homework, so you start to grade yourself
higher grades each time. The point of this is to see how you have improved since the start of
the video project.

1. Scripting and captioning research for part two of Photoshop tutorial – I graded myself a grade 5 here, mainly because I just
started and I did not know anything about these skills. But after watching some online tutorials about how to write a script and also how to add
captions, I graded myself a four because I thought I knew a bit more about these skills a bit more. After I made the final version of my part of the
video, I gave myself a grade 2 because I knew a lot about these skills but I still thought I needed some improvement.
2. Researching tutorials – codes and conventions for part two of the Photoshop tutorial – Codes and conventions are the
lines you have to follow to make your video fit into it’s genre. For example, if I want my video to be a tutorial, I would have to follow the codes and
conventions for tutorial videos. I graded myself a 4 at the beginning because I thought I knew what this was kind of about.
3. Storyboarding research, for part two of the Photoshop tutorial – For storyboarding, I chose to grade myself a grade 4 at the
start because I thought I knew what a storyboard was, after I finished doing the final version of my storyboard, I gave myself a grade 2, because I
had done three storyboards by then and I knew how to do a good storyboard.
I grade myself every step of the way while I was making the video, including the pre-
production stage, production stage and the post-production stage, these are the tasks
I needed to do in the pre-production stage.
