Unit 3 ….the brief…
oYou have been accepted to produce video content for the Hove Park YouTube channel (e.g. a tutorial or ‘how
to’ video). You will be producing resources aimed at Year 9 students who will be coming up to the Nevill
site. The topic has to be agreed with Ms Ritson. You will work on developing the skill over an academic year
and will be updating your progress on a PowerPoint information point.
oYou will have the opportunity to meet professionals working in the industry and discuss aspects of their work
with them, in order to help you to identify the skills that you wish to develop and to aid you in identifying best
practice.
oYou will also reflect on how you can best acquire and develop these skills from a personal perspective,
considering the best approach suited to your individual learning style.
oDuring this process you will keep a personal log (written or recorded) of your progress showing the highs and
lows of your development. Eventually you will present your work to the Hove Park Youtube Moderator
displaying a portfolio of the best work that you have produced during the process.

Mindmap of tutorial ideas discussed in your group

Luc-John Raubenheimer
In my group we discussed the ideas that we could do as a video idea,
we came up with three main ideas for a video idea. One of them was a
Photoshop tutorial, which we had a few ideas for, a HPS logo, a HPS
YouTube banner or HPS wallpaper. The other idea was to make a gym
instruction video, on how to use the equipment, an interview and how
to wipe down the equipment after you have use them. The last idea
was to make an animated Gif for hove park school, which would
include the explanation of states, pages and an in depth guide of text
affects.
Centre Number: 56830_Luc-John Raubenheimer_Candidate number: 3304 4
Chosen group tutorial idea
The video idea that my group has chosen is a logo design tutorial for Hove Park School. The plan is to record us
doing a tutorial on Photoshop and making the instructions clear enough for our target audience, who are the Year
nines. We have a lot of other ideas for a Photoshop tutorial as well, including making a poster for Hove Park
School and how to make a YouTube banner for the Hove Park School YouTube channel.
The client is MsRitson@hovepark. The target audience are the Year nines who are coming up to the Nevil campus.
We will be making a video and it will be posted on the Hove Park School YouTube channel. We would have to
consider the if the video suitable for the year nines.

Group mindmap – to create a Movie Maker tutorial what do we need to learn?

Scott Rittman
As a group we talked about the equipment we needed for all our scenes, the skills we would need to complete this
video, titles, captions, credits and job roles. We came to a conclusion that we were going to make a Photoshop tutorial
with a documentary genre. So Scott and Dan’s parts of the video would be virtual recordings, and my part would be an
actual camera recording with me talking to the camera.
We will need to be able to upload the video to the HPS YouTube channel. We also talked about job roles, Dan is going
to do part one of the video and the intro, (the music would also be made by Dan so we could have our own copyright
privileges). Scott is going to do part three of the video and the outro.
I will be making part two of the video and managing the audio. We would have to have skills to do a storyboard, skills
to be able to identify a good online tutorial, developing mind mapping skills and be able to meet the deadlines. We
discussed what the camera angle should be during the video, what the title, captions and credits should be like.

Photoshop
Tutorial
I will need my iPad for
recording my part of the
video.
I will need to be able
to know how to
upload a video onto
YouTube.
I will need to have the
skills to be able to add
captions, titles and
credits.
I will need to be able to
meet deadlines,
storyboard and research.
I will also need to be
able to research other
online tutorials.
We need to think about
different job roles, and think
about preproduction,
production and post
production. We need to
develop image skills too.

The rule of thirds is when you divide an image with two horizontal lines and two vertical lines into three rows of three columns, you place the image inside this scene and move the most
important part of the picture along the lines or on the point where they meet. The idea of the rule of thirds is that a lot of people think a more off centre composition is more pleasing to the eye
than normal centred pictures.

The channel is called MisterNinjaBoy, and he has 97 thousand subscribers.
The intro to the video is very basic, just a bell sound and then the logo of his channel. I think this is quite an interesting intro because it is short but very detailed, normally on
YouTube, people have overly long logos, this will discourage the viewer to keep watching the video. The title was also very simple, not to easy and not to complicated as well.
The background music was loud at the beginning but then it slowly faded out and played very quietly in the back, I think this is smart because not only can the viewer hear him
talking, they can also hear the music in the background.
The font he chose was a very basic font, I think it was the default font on movie maker, but I made it look unique with the colours he used. The captions popped up every five
minutes, which I think was good considering it is a thirteen seven minute long video, they were also not overly decorated, and not too transparent as well so that the viewers
could see very clearly what it says.
There were also sound effects when the captions popped up, they were not too loud, and not too quiet. The were not any camera angles in this video because it was all a
virtual recording. There were adverts that came up every ten minutes, they were not part of the video but instead they were adverts put on by YouTube itself. The audience to
this video was really just everyone that wanted to learn about Photoshop, he did not mention anything about this video being for older or younger people.
There were no images in the video, which I think makes the video a bit dull because all there was was a virtual recording of someone speaking over a Photoshop tutorial. The
aim of this video is to teach people how to do basic Photoshop. It had a documentary style to it. There were two scenes in this entire thirty seven minute long vide, which I
think is kind of unprofessional, the fact that there wasn’t an outro, any social media links, credits and special effects also made the video very unprofessional.
Tutorial research – for each tutorial…identify features you liked and are thinking of including in your tutorial. Identify ‘good practice’.
• The title is one of the most important elements in a video, it should be in the intro to catch people’s attention and making them stay and watch the video. Make sure it is big
enough and where the viewer can see. In some videos people had very loud dubstep intros, which could discourage the viewer to keep watching the video.
• The captions on the images have to be on the side of the image otherwise it could block the viewer’s sight, or the captions could appear in the middle of the image for a while
and than fade out.
• The font size must not be to big otherwise it could block the viewers sight or even distract the viewer from watching the video. The font type should not be too fancy otherwise it
could distract the viewer from the video, but should not be too simple either, otherwise the viewer could not see it and potentially miss a very important part of the video.
• The image effects for an image I would include the image fading in, after I've talked about it enough would make the picture fade out.
• For narration I noticed lot of people on YouTube were either to loud or too quiet, so I am going to make sure my narration is going to be just right so that my target audience can
hear.

Unit 3 Assessing My Skills
2nd of May
Today I learnt about the rule of thirds, the rule of thirds is when
you add two horizontal lines and two vertical lines to make three
rows of three columns on your image. Then you can choose
where you want to put the most important thing in your image,
the unevenness of the picture is more soothing to the eye.

Intro – Dan will be making the intro because he has made is own music for it in FL studios so we can have our own
copyrighted music, and he is familiar to making music videos. He is going to use different clips from the video itself
to make an intro to show the audience what the video is going to be like.
Part 1 – Dan will also be making part one since it is going to be easier for him to transition it from the intro to
part one, he will be making the music for part one as well. He is going to make an advanced tutorial of how to
make a Hove Park School logo.
Part 2 – I will be making part two, part two is going to be a Photoshop tutorial that is more for beginners. I fit
the role nicely because I don’t really know a lot about Photoshoping. Part two will include an documentary
interview with me. Then a recording of me showing the target audience, who are the year nines coming up to
the Nevil campus soon, how to make the basic Hove Park School logo that I made.
Part 3 – Scott will be making part three of the video since he is doing the outro, and it would be easier to
transition from part three to the outro. He is going to make an advanced Photoshop tutorial of a Hove Park
School logo
Outro – Scott will be making the outro since he has way more experience on making YouTube videos than me,
he will be using Dan’s music as the outro music, and put social media links, dummy links to other videos and
links to other people in the classes’ videos.

  • 2. Centre Number: 56830_Luc-John Raubenheimer_Candidate number: 3304 Unit 3 ….the brief… oYou have been accepted to produce video content for the Hove Park YouTube channel (e.g. a tutorial or ‘how to’ video). You will be producing resources aimed at Year 9 students who will be coming up to the Nevill site. The topic has to be agreed with Ms Ritson. You will work on developing the skill over an academic year and will be updating your progress on a PowerPoint information point. oYou will have the opportunity to meet professionals working in the industry and discuss aspects of their work with them, in order to help you to identify the skills that you wish to develop and to aid you in identifying best practice. oYou will also reflect on how you can best acquire and develop these skills from a personal perspective, considering the best approach suited to your individual learning style. oDuring this process you will keep a personal log (written or recorded) of your progress showing the highs and lows of your development. Eventually you will present your work to the Hove Park Youtube Moderator displaying a portfolio of the best work that you have produced during the process. 2
  • 3. Centre Number: 56830_Luc-John Raubenheimer_Candidate number: 3304 Mindmap of tutorial ideas discussed in your group 3 Scott Rittman Dan Jones Luc-John Raubenheimer In my group we discussed the ideas that we could do as a video idea, we came up with three main ideas for a video idea. One of them was a Photoshop tutorial, which we had a few ideas for, a HPS logo, a HPS YouTube banner or HPS wallpaper. The other idea was to make a gym instruction video, on how to use the equipment, an interview and how to wipe down the equipment after you have use them. The last idea was to make an animated Gif for hove park school, which would include the explanation of states, pages and an in depth guide of text affects.
  • 4. Centre Number: 56830_Luc-John Raubenheimer_Candidate number: 3304 4 Chosen group tutorial idea The video idea that my group has chosen is a logo design tutorial for Hove Park School. The plan is to record us doing a tutorial on Photoshop and making the instructions clear enough for our target audience, who are the Year nines. We have a lot of other ideas for a Photoshop tutorial as well, including making a poster for Hove Park School and how to make a YouTube banner for the Hove Park School YouTube channel. The client is MsRitson@hovepark. The target audience are the Year nines who are coming up to the Nevil campus. We will be making a video and it will be posted on the Hove Park School YouTube channel. We would have to consider the if the video suitable for the year nines.
  • 5. Centre Number: 56830_Luc-John Raubenheimer_Candidate number: 3304 Group mindmap – to create a Movie Maker tutorial what do we need to learn? 5 Luc-John Raubenheimer Dan Jones Scott Rittman As a group we talked about the equipment we needed for all our scenes, the skills we would need to complete this video, titles, captions, credits and job roles. We came to a conclusion that we were going to make a Photoshop tutorial with a documentary genre. So Scott and Dan’s parts of the video would be virtual recordings, and my part would be an actual camera recording with me talking to the camera. We will need to be able to upload the video to the HPS YouTube channel. We also talked about job roles, Dan is going to do part one of the video and the intro, (the music would also be made by Dan so we could have our own copyright privileges). Scott is going to do part three of the video and the outro. I will be making part two of the video and managing the audio. We would have to have skills to do a storyboard, skills to be able to identify a good online tutorial, developing mind mapping skills and be able to meet the deadlines. We discussed what the camera angle should be during the video, what the title, captions and credits should be like.
  • 6. Centre Number: 56830_Luc-John Raubenheimer_Candidate number: 3304 Individual mindmap – to create a Movie Maker tutorial what do I need to learn? 6 Photoshop Tutorial I will need my iPad for recording my part of the video. I will need to be able to know how to upload a video onto YouTube. I will need to have the skills to be able to add captions, titles and credits. I will need to be able to meet deadlines, storyboard and research. I will also need to be able to research other online tutorials. We need to think about different job roles, and think about preproduction, production and post production. We need to develop image skills too.

It usually increases dramatic effect. You must be very careful while taking this shot, otherwise, the slightest shake of the camera is very noticeable. It was used a lot in the movie ‘Inception’. This is the extreme close up of the yellow car, it is an extreme close- up because it focuses on only the windshield and it is very close to the car. This is my oblique camera angle, it gives the picture a mysterious effect, all you need to do is tilt the camera. The idea of the rule of thirds is that a lot of people think a more off centre composition is more pleasing to the eye than normal centred pictures.

The video is about her giving instructions on she edits her videos. The intro of this video consists twenty different highlights from this video, all just in fifteen seconds, the music also matches with the fast paced intro. The title of the video has the same font and house style of the YouTube channel. Social media links in the captions that match font and font colour that matches the house style that is pink and blue. This is the LittleWorldOfEline YouTube Channel page. This is the video I am identifying as good practice. Moviemaker Skills 8th May 2017 Before I started developing movie maker I was a grade 5, which means I had no knowledge of how to use movie maker at all, but after playing and experimenting around with it a bit, I think I am a grade 4 now, which means I have a little bit more knowledge about movie maker.
  • 19. Centre Number: 56830_Luc-John Raubenheimer_Candidate number: 3304 Identify good practice – Online tutorials 1.1 identify techniques / 1.2 describe approaches to skills development • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFyOznL9UvA 19 The channel is called MisterNinjaBoy, and he has 97 thousand subscribers. The intro to the video is very basic, just a bell sound and then the logo of his channel. I think this is quite an interesting intro because it is short but very detailed, normally on YouTube, people have overly long logos, this will discourage the viewer to keep watching the video. The title was also very simple, not to easy and not to complicated as well. The background music was loud at the beginning but then it slowly faded out and played very quietly in the back, I think this is smart because not only can the viewer hear him talking, they can also hear the music in the background. The font he chose was a very basic font, I think it was the default font on movie maker, but I made it look unique with the colours he used. The captions popped up every five minutes, which I think was good considering it is a thirteen seven minute long video, they were also not overly decorated, and not too transparent as well so that the viewers could see very clearly what it says. There were also sound effects when the captions popped up, they were not too loud, and not too quiet. The were not any camera angles in this video because it was all a virtual recording. There were adverts that came up every ten minutes, they were not part of the video but instead they were adverts put on by YouTube itself. The audience to this video was really just everyone that wanted to learn about Photoshop, he did not mention anything about this video being for older or younger people. There were no images in the video, which I think makes the video a bit dull because all there was was a virtual recording of someone speaking over a Photoshop tutorial. The aim of this video is to teach people how to do basic Photoshop. It had a documentary style to it. There were two scenes in this entire thirty seven minute long vide, which I think is kind of unprofessional, the fact that there wasn’t an outro, any social media links, credits and special effects also made the video very unprofessional. Tutorial research – for each tutorial…identify features you liked and are thinking of including in your tutorial. Identify ‘good practice’. • The title is one of the most important elements in a video, it should be in the intro to catch people’s attention and making them stay and watch the video. Make sure it is big enough and where the viewer can see. In some videos people had very loud dubstep intros, which could discourage the viewer to keep watching the video. • The captions on the images have to be on the side of the image otherwise it could block the viewer’s sight, or the captions could appear in the middle of the image for a while and than fade out. • The font size must not be to big otherwise it could block the viewers sight or even distract the viewer from watching the video. The font type should not be too fancy otherwise it could distract the viewer from the video, but should not be too simple either, otherwise the viewer could not see it and potentially miss a very important part of the video. • The image effects for an image I would include the image fading in, after I've talked about it enough would make the picture fade out. • For narration I noticed lot of people on YouTube were either to loud or too quiet, so I am going to make sure my narration is going to be just right so that my target audience can hear.
  • 20. Tutorial ‘ideas’ mindmap: Luc-John Raubenheimer 20 Photoshop tutorial. The house style is going to be a blueish colour, just like the Hove park School house style, seeing that the Hove Park School house style. The font type is going to be the verdana font, the font size is going to be 28, and the font colour is going to be white. The intro is going to be made by Dan, and the outro is going to be made by Scott. I will need to make a logo for my part of the video, I will then show the viewers how to make the logo that I made. I will have to make some images on Photoshop and find images of Photoshop tools to show my viewers. My part of the video will consist a sort of an interview, then the rest of the part is going to be a recording of the screen from my IPad. Unit 3 Assessing My Skills 2nd of May Today I learnt about the rule of thirds, the rule of thirds is when you add two horizontal lines and two vertical lines to make three rows of three columns on your image. Then you can choose where you want to put the most important thing in your image, the unevenness of the picture is more soothing to the eye. My Job Roles Part 2 of the video. Audio of the video. Captions for part 2.
  • 21. Centre Number: 56830_Luc-John Raubenheimer_Candidate number: 3304 Group Development I will be responsible for part two of the video, the house style and the audio, I will be using Movie Maker as the software to make and edit all of these things. 21 Intro – Dan will be making the intro because he has made is own music for it in FL studios so we can have our own copyrighted music, and he is familiar to making music videos. He is going to use different clips from the video itself to make an intro to show the audience what the video is going to be like. Part 1 – Dan will also be making part one since it is going to be easier for him to transition it from the intro to part one, he will be making the music for part one as well. He is going to make an advanced tutorial of how to make a Hove Park School logo. Part 2 – I will be making part two, part two is going to be a Photoshop tutorial that is more for beginners. I fit the role nicely because I don’t really know a lot about Photoshoping. Part two will include an documentary interview with me. Then a recording of me showing the target audience, who are the year nines coming up to the Nevil campus soon, how to make the basic Hove Park School logo that I made. Part 3 – Scott will be making part three of the video since he is doing the outro, and it would be easier to transition from part three to the outro. He is going to make an advanced Photoshop tutorial of a Hove Park School logo Outro – Scott will be making the outro since he has way more experience on making YouTube videos than me, he will be using Dan’s music as the outro music, and put social media links, dummy links to other videos and links to other people in the classes’ videos.
