Lesson Plan
Week 1
Objective: At the end of the D2L professional development professors will be able to customize a D2L homepage with at least two widgets.
Lesson: I will meet the professors in an online Blackboard Collaborate room and face-to-face in a meeting room. Professors who meet face-to-face will be asked to bring their laptops to the meeting so they can join the online room and follow along in D2L. During the meeting we will discuss how to customize a D2L homepage and edit widgets on the homepage. Professors would have been sent a video tutorial on how to customize a D2L homepage and edit widgets on the homepage prior to this meeting. This way I can answer their questions and focus on areas they had trouble understanding. At the end of the meeting I will ask professors how the D2L professional development can be improved. This will give professors the opportunity to provide me with feedback.
Homework: Professors will find a lesson they can use in the future and start to build their online D2L module based on that lesson. Professors will create a custom homepage for the lesson they choose. Professors will watch a video tutorial on how to create modules and sub-modules under the table of contents. The video will include the different ways they can manipulate the modules and sub-modules. Professors will be given a link to a Padlet wall that they can complete if they wish. The Padlet wall will be a way for professors to provide me with feedback about the D2L professional development.
Week 2
Objective: At the end of the D2L professional development professors will be able to add modules and sub-modules to the table of contents on D2L.
Lesson: I will meet the professors in an online Blackboard Collaborate room and face-to-face in a meeting room. Professors who meet face-to-face will be asked to bring their laptops to the meeting so they can join the online room and follow along in D2L. At the start of the meeting I will take any questions professors have about week one’s material. Then we will discuss how to create modules and sub-modules under the table of contents as well as how to manipulate the modules and sub modules. I will answer the questions they have from watching the video tutorial and focus on areas they had trouble understanding. At the end of the meeting I will ask professors how the D2L professional development can be improved. This will give professors the opportunity to provide me with feedback.
Homework: Professors will begin to put and organize the content of their lesson into modules and sub- modules under the table of contents. Professors will watch a video tutorial on how to create and edit a webpage on a module and sub module in D2L. Professors will be given a link to a Padlet wall that they can complete if they wish. The Padlet wall will be a way for professors to provide me with feedback about the D2L professional development.

Formative Assessment
Each meeting I will see how professors are doing and how things went when they applied what they learned the previous week to their online learning modules on D2L.
Each meeting I will see what questions professors had about the video tutorial they watched for homework and what they were having trouble understanding.
Each meeting professors will provide me with feedback about the D2L professional development.

Reflection
I think when learners apply what they are learning in a meaningful way and it applies to them they will remember the material better, which is what this lesson is all about. Each week the professors watch a video tutorial and learn how to apply the video tutorial to an online learning module they are creating in D2L. This lesson reaches visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners. This way each professor has an equal chance and opportunity to learn the material and create an online learning module. The module the professors are creating is for a lesson they will do in the future. On the SAMR model, this lesson would fall under “modification” since professors are using D2L to enhance a lesson they already have. On Bloom’s Taxonomy this lesson would fall under “creating” since professors are using what they are learning to create an online learning module on D2L.
