4. Gallium was discovered (1875) by
French chemist Paul-Emile Lecoq de
Boisbaudran ,who observed its
principal spectral lines while
examining material separated from
zinc blende.Soon afterward he isolated
the metal and studied its,properties
which coincided with those that
Russian chemist Dmitri Ivanovich
Mendeleev

Through widely distributed at Earth's surface, gallium
does not occur free or concentrated in independent
minerals, except for gallite
CuGaS2, rare and economically
insignificant. It is extracted by-
product from zinc blends, iron
pyrite.,bauxite, and germanite

Gallium?
Bauxite is the primary ore from which
most of world's gallium is produced.
In nature, gallium is difficult to find. It makes up about 0.0019
percent of Earth's crust. And it's never found on its
own!instead ,it has to be spared from other materials through
a process called smelting
9. Currently, gallium is obtained mainly from mining
and mineral processing of bauxite ore for
aluminum, although some gallium is also derived
from the processing of sphalerite ore for zinc.
Gallium is also recycled from scrap generated in
the manufacture of GaAs- and GaN-based
devices.

11. Gallium is soft, silvery metal used
primarily in
electronic,circuits,semiconducts
and light-emitting diodes(LEDs).
It is also useful in high-temperature
thermometers,barometers,pharmace
uticals and nuclear medicine tests.
13. INFORMATIONAL
Gallium is a CORROSIVE CHEMICAL and contact can
severely irritate and burn the skin and eyes with possible eye
damage. * Breathing Gallium can irritate the nose and throat
causing coughing and wheezing. * Gallium may damage the
liver and kidneys.
In most of its compounds, gallium has an oxidation state of +3 and,
in a few, +1 (for example, the oxide, Ga2O).
