Nomad Mentor, 2012-2013
• Mentored a student throughout her long-term research project for publication in Nomad,
the University of Oregon’s Comparative Literature Department’s journal of
undergraduate writing. I advised the student, meeting regularly to discuss her research,
writing, and revision progress, provided feedback on her written materials, and ensured
that she met the publication deadline by breaking down the assignment into phases.
AWARDS
Teaching Media Award: Teaching The U.S. Election, 2012
• Won first place with my lesson plan entitled “Make Your Own Daily Show Report” from
teachingmedia.org, an organization promoting innovative pedagogy with 21st century
media or media-related approaches to studying current events. My lesson was a long-
term assignment in which students work cooperatively in groups to investigate current
events and present them in the style of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
